BRZ US Debut at NAIAS?
I swear I saw a thread/post right before the site crashed with a link to Subaru stating the world debut at TMS and then the US debut at NAIAS? If so I'm flying to michigan but want to confirm first.
|
Well now that the site is back I found it in the photos/media forum :)

You are correct my friend, at the bottom of the site
Keep connected to SUBARU BRZ. NOV. 30, 2011 - TOKYO MOTOR SHOW Tune in for the global reveal of the production SUBARU BRZ. JAN. 9-10, 2012 - NORTH AMERICAN INT'L AUTO SHOW U.S.-spec production SUBARU BRZ makes its debut in Detroit. ON SALE—SPRING 2012 The SUBARU BRZ takes the road. I like the last one...subaru takes the road  |
Wow, thats awesome, less than two months away for a U.S. debut! I bet we will start seeing final numbers for the car (possibly even a price) before then.
|
My guess, specs released in tokyo, but concept is displayed. NAIAS will have production ready version, but same specs as released in tokyo.

Either way I'm flying to Detroit for NAIAS (and finding other things to do up in the snow we never see here :) like a snow mobile race the weekend after I goto the autoshow) to see the US Spec version in person :) |

Hmm. This probably means we won't get firm pricing until January. I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota did the same thing since Scion is a US-only brand.

Do you think they will let us sit in it? |
I wonder who will be the first owners of an FT or a BRZ be kinda cool if the cars were numbered. But Im sure that will jump the price I can't wait to see the production cars.

VIN :bonk: |
The first couple VIN numbers will sadly belong to pre-production cars that will probably have to be scrapped :(
|
I'll be at the NAIAS as usual. What day[s] are you considering going?

Anyone want to do a NAIAS meet? I'm sure at least 5 of us is going :)

NAIAS is the detroit auto show right?

Public show is Jan 14th-Jan 22nd. http://www.naias.com/ |
damn detroit for being so far away.
|
First day is probably the day they'd be handing stuff out (if at all), right? 19th/20th is optimal because I wouldn't have to take time off work though.

19/20 is Thurs/Fri so I'm hoping lines and such won't be too bad by then :) |

on sale in spring is what I like, previously it sounded like summer. I have no car so sooner the better:party0030:

I think myself and one of our engineers will be making the trip over there! We should do a meet while we are all in Detroit.

I will definitely be at the Detroit Auto Show. I live in Michigan and it's only a couple hours drive away :D
Can't wait to see the production version in person. Almost indefinitely picking up a BRZ in the spring. |
How's the Zoo? :)
Confirmed my trip details today, need to purchase tickets tonight. Flying up thursday monring the 19th, going to the car show on the 19th, maybe the 20th if it's worth going back, then going up to Caro to see some snowmobile racing (we don't race those down here in florida :) ). |
Dave, have you booked a hotel yet? Consider looking into one of the nicer hotels in downtown [as close to the Renaissance Center or Cobo Hall as possible]. If you're not familiar with Detroit, there's a halo of ghetto surrounding downtown, while the tight downtown is nice and the metro area past 8 Mile.
A pre-release meet sounds good! :) Since I live here, I can put together a dinner and/or cocktails location; there are tons of fantastic restaurants if you know where to look. Let me know how much local color you want and the budget that works for everyone. |

Thanks! I was there recently staying downtown in a buddys apartment on woodward (near grand) and got some breakfast at a place in a hispanic part of the city :) He moved to Columbus Ohio though so can't stay there :( |
Dearborn is fine...there are some nice hotels within sight of Ford's Glass House HQ, especially the Ritz-Carlton.
In downtown Detroit, the Westin Book Cadillac and Marriot at the Ren Cen I can personally vouch are legit nice; and within walking distance to Cobo. Keep in mind that it'll be super ridiculously cold and a blizzard, just like every year during the auto show, so pack and bundle up accordingly. After that, you'll end up waaay out of Detroit up in the 'burbs like Southfield, Madison Heights and Warren. |

I read a few post down that you were originally from Toledo, how familiar are you with Kzoo? |

Flights are booked. Downtown hotel bids rejected on priceline so far, I'll try again tomorrow night/thursday. Might not have great luck due to the autoshow itself of course :P |
OK finally got a priceline deal on a hotel in downtown.
Westin Book Cadillac for $95/night.. for any coming in try that for name your own price, 4 star, downtown detroit. NAIAS also has a deal for the Marriot and Ren Center for $149/night that has easier access to the People Mover (in the ren center instead of walking a block) but I'd rather save the $55... |

What day you planning on going to the show? |
Quote:
I'm going on Thursday the 19th at least, and maybe the 20th depending on how the 19th goes. |
Quote:
hmmm not sure when to go if I want to hit up a Wings game. Saturday the 14th against the Blackhawks would be awesome, but the show would be so packed. So Monday January 16th against the Sabres would be the most logical choice to go to the Auto Show and finish it off with a Wings game :D |
