Anyone here use facebook?

Toyota has shown an element of love during the FT-86's development. It carries spirit and heritage in the details. When a leak thread is posted, pages of posts fill in minutes from a wide range of hardcore and casual enthusiasts, young and old. There's tremendous enthusiasm here (I don't see that in other forums).

FB is just another outlet to indulge ourselves with FT-86 knowledge/info in a more personal way. Call it "fanboyism" but it can be much greater than that (I started a FB thread like this in the MR2 forum which boosted the health of the community! Live feeds of owners' rides, parts swapping, spontaneous meet invites, repair advice... but I digress).

A cult following is rising on this forum of personalities I can learn from or laugh at and I'd like to link with anyone who shares this strong interest (link in my sig); feel free to add me or post yours!

Gardus@Supersprint 11-16-2011 07:36 AM

I use it for work too, search the official Supersprint facebook page, I'm the admin.

switchlanez 11-17-2011 01:24 AM

^Cool.

Anyone? Guess it's more reasonable to not make connections til AFTER the car comes out...

Allch Chcar 11-17-2011 01:31 AM

I thought we already had a topic about this.

switchlanez 11-17-2011 03:11 AM

Search yielded no relevant results... probably buried within a different topic.

Allch Chcar 11-17-2011 03:15 AM

Probably the one about leaving Tesuya Tada a message on his Facebook. Nevermind then. Carry on!

blur 11-17-2011 03:17 AM

I'm not cool enough to have one :(

Giccin 11-17-2011 03:23 AM

I only add people I've met in person that are deemed "cool" and not "creepy."

Although I won't mind "liking" a fan page or joining a "FT86club" group.

You're in the cool kids club.

Has a membership fee of catching 2trollololnubs a week though and posting memes and lolcats.

quik1987 11-17-2011 03:39 AM

I would rather not integrate my real life with my online life. People will meet up throught the regional forums here.

switchlanez 11-17-2011 05:10 AM

Kinda reminds me of my G35 forum. Not too big on FB the only people I added were those I met at a big regional meet lol

But with the MR2 crowd there's over 50+ of us friended not all of us have met. Everyone knows someone who has met anyone else though (1 degree of separation) so we take care of each other.

Back when the MkII Concept was revealed I posted it to my FB and an MR2 guy schooled my Subie buddy from college about how it's physically impossible for the FT-86 to have a front differential and be AWD (nice FT86 discussion on my wall feed). Another shared info on where I can always pass smog no matter what's under my hood lol and another posted all the E85 ethanol pump stations in my area. If someone runs into a problem when working on their car... upload a pic to FB (problem solved).

It's one of the best ways I like to use FB so I thought this thread would have some meaning. And I'm pretty lenient with who I add on my FB because I maintain it as a space that's separate from my true personal life/friends (who aren't big on FB). It does have little kid relatives, professors, former colleagues, etc. so I have to keep it tactful.

Hah that sounds familiar. I've actually added Tada-san on FB on the grounds that I used to work in a Toyota plant. The Toyota Production System is quite something.

Dave-ROR 11-17-2011 09:26 AM

I'm one of the few who still (and always will) refuse to use Facebook and others.

Longhorn248 11-17-2011 11:27 AM

I've thinned out my Facebook to people I would actually still talk to in person and only add people that I've met in person a couple times. I stay pretty current with the forums I'm active on so I don't need it to spill over to Facebook too.

We don't have a topic for relationships, politics or religion. There is probably a thread worth of conversations buried in offtopic threads though. :bellyroll:

Just as I thought.

I use Facebook for family but I'm not against joining a group. :iono:

RRnold 11-17-2011 02:51 PM

I'm on FB and have about 588 people but really hang out with 20-30 on a regular basis. :bellyroll: The rest are people that I've met in person and shot with shit or distant cousins with either my mom's last name or my last name.

Is there an acutual FT86club FB page?

Funny thing is... that website took some of this website's info and cropped out the FT86club.com on the bottom off and post it on theirs.

Lol

WingsofWar 11-17-2011 05:05 PM

whats facebook?.....is it like.....xanga or apartment107? or Geocities and Angelfire Webring?

:bellyroll:

quik1987 11-17-2011 05:18 PM

The fact that you're pushing for this so hard is kind of creepy. Why couldn't you just upload the photo of your problem on this forum?

switchlanez 11-18-2011 03:58 AM

People don't see my point or get where I'm coming from about the car. They're being squeamish/fixated on the personal politics of fb. :sigh:

On a tangent, does anybody look at the community of owners as part of the ownership experience/value of owning a car?

I can see what you mean, but i guess of the privacy most of us have it might take awhile for something like this to kick off. Maybe after a couple of months/meets then it would be more reasonable.

I've subscribed to another MR2 fanpage similar to what you are trying to create with this ft86 craze, but like i said. It wont really kick off util this car is released and people start playing/messing/destroying this car.

But to answer your last question, i think the ownership community CAN play a role in ownership experience and value with car enthusiasts such as ourselves. I think thats why some of us wouldnt jump first at civics because of the ownership community. So hopefully the ricer:enthusiast ratio stays low (1:100) enough to keep this community fresh and optimistic. :respekt:

I'm the founder of the Club Mini Italia (the biggest new mini owner club in Italy) and also the admin of the Facebook page, which is invite only so it's more a group of friends that hang around ( for example ten of us was at a disco here in Mantova last Saturday) and FB is used to share the pictures of the events, new parts fitted on the car posted by phone etc...

Thank you I agree 100%. I swear I've seen your bumper sticker before. Do you happen to know someone first initial S. Yoo with a yellow MkIII and dark green MkII?

Longhorn248 11-18-2011 03:41 PM

Why do we need a Facebook group if we have this forum....I just got a "friend request" here on the forum...why do we need friend requests? Or maybe I'm just a little tired of all the social networking that people love to do.

Most likely because someone thought you were cool. Knowledgeable and not like every other noob on the forum. Lol

And I've become accustomed to this forum. You find some really knowledgeable people on here and sometimes you can even find a great debate/argument you can fight back and forth with without having the other person blantly cuss you out.

Like the Censorship thread I opened up. Opens my eyes to different views. Lol

Go me! :happyanim: (you forgot to add modest)

switchlanez 11-27-2011 05:56 AM

So I posted the new production version photos/vids to my FB and people are commenting on it like...

"I get the feeling stateside it might be considered a girly car like the tC was"

And nobody but I am there to defend this car.

Dave-ROR 11-27-2011 10:52 AM

Toyota wants chicks to buy it. He'll they stated that in a video and they made it with an automatic. How much more proof of a chick car does one need?

Guess we'll all just have to put racing stripes and flames on the sides to make the car manly.

Well best of luck!
