What was your first love, i.e. the car that led you to your FR-S/BRZ?
 

My first love was my 300ZX TT - I put R34 GT-R Wheel and Brakes and lots of other goodies from Japan on it. It was my 500RWHP Monster… It was a beast on the HWY. After getting pulled over for going triple digit speeds I swore to never street race again and bought an EVO VIII for AUTOX and Drag racing…

I now own a 2003 Subaru B4 Blitzen… I got this car while I am stationed in Okinawa, Japan because I didn't want to buy a car that would be too hard to sell when I leave. It is complicated here in Japan. Once a car is turned into a Y plate many of the Japanese people are not interested in buying it and paying all of the required fees associated with switching it back…

My second love was a 2004 EVO VIII - I bought this EVO from a friend It had 264/264 cams, Turbo back exhaust, and a Tune when I bought it. I added a new clutch, Snow Performance Methanol Injection Kit and a new tune and I loved it. The feel of launching an AWD car was like nothing I had ever experienced. I perfected my AWD launches and ran consistent 12.0's almost every run. I was beating a lot of the Suby and other EVOs that had more power than me because of my 1.5-1.6 60ft launches… It was awesome! lol…

I just bought my 2013 Nissan GT-R - Hands down the best car EVER! I am in love with this car so much that I am ordering a Subaru BRZ Limited to take on all of the DD duties in order to keep the miles off of my GT-R… Soon there will be a Suby sitting next to Godzilla…

When you get the BRZ, how does it handle/drive compared to the GR-R???

I have no specific first love but have been looking for a reasonably price sports car without lots of electronics, good MPG, with great handling, that's not a "chick" car like the miata, and without excessive HP for street use for years. Hello BRZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course, I will do a comparison post... It will be fun to describe the differences between the two... I already test drove a Toyota GT86 while here in Okinawa, Japan and it was a very fun experience.

You hit the reason that I am buying a BRZ on the head "It is a reasonably priced sports car"...

If driven right can almost match a regular Honda Civic in gas mileage and is off the charts on the fun scale. The gas mileage in of its self is incredible to me because I needed something that could at least get 30mpg but to get that in a sexy package like one of the Twins is AWESOME!...

The fact that the FR-S/ BRZ are modeled after one of the most awesome drift cars in the history is only icing on the cake...

Enjoy the GTR, I can imagine you have probably drive a lot of different cars. So you'll probably agree with me when I say a GTR is hands down one of the best street driven race cars there is.

Regarding the comment of GTR/BRZ comparison...there isn't one honestly. A GTR is like a race car in a tuxedo. The transmission is noisy, clutches are grabby, steering is firm (sorta similar with BRZ), power is linear (and lots of it), and it pulls hard wether you're doing 0-60 or 60-120+. Probably the best powerband I've felt.

The 240sx is a keeper... I kind of wished that I had gone that route when I had the 300ZX TT because of the Z's weight... It was a HWY bruiser but kind of like a Hippo on a track... I had everything done to it to that you could imagine all suspension components etc... It still was a heavy girl...

From your description it would appear that you have driven a GT-R... You are right they pull for days. The 2013 have a lot quieter transmissions but they still chatter, lol... I agree with you that it is the best street legal race cars today. It is a car that makes me look at people that own a Porsche, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Viper or Corvette and I feel sorry for them because they paid too much for too little IMHO... I believe that is a commonality with the FR-S and BRZ... For the money and the complete package not much else comes close...

I have an unusual automotive history. I've owned many cars over the years but in addition to that I drove company cars for about 25 years that were provided for my business and personal use. These would be your standard utility nondescript sedans. Scattered throughout that period of time was a number of cars making our household a two car family. The most notable cars in my history were a '67 Mustang GT fastback, '71 Chevrolet Corvette, '87 Porsche Carrera, '99 Mazda Miata and a '02 Mazda Miata. I have always preferred smaller sport/sporty cars. For the last five or so years I have given a lot of thought to a Porsche Cayman. I think they're one of the finest cars there is. Even with my wife's blessing I just couldn't let myself spend that kind of money for a car. Then several years ago I became interested in the Toyobaru project and hoped that one of these little beauties could satisfy my itch. I got my FR-S a little over two months ago and as far as I'm concerned it's the most rewarding car made for the money and certainly the best value.

91 Honda Prelude 2.0Si. Suspension technique springs, tokico hp struts, yokohama a509 tires, pacesetter exhaust, & of course custom weight reduction (my way of saying it had some rust).

I really regret selling that car and not keeping it as a project. I really miss it.

You're right. I owned two of them and I can't say that about any other car model that's been made. As much as I loved the Miata I find the handling of my FR-S more to my liking. In addition to that, I was sort-of burned out on convertibles and love coupes.

Yea I even changed from the mechanical gauge cluster speedo to the electronic one so my cruise would work

Yeah it only lasted two weeks. I had the rev limiter moved up to 9500 rpm and the timing belt flew off

I missed a few because I can't find the pics, BUT, the moral of the story is, I have become a Toyota fanboy over the years, and I missed the glory days.

The FT86 was the beginning of what I believe is a new era in Toyota's history. Where they throw back to the cars of yesteryear and create automobiles that speak to us as closely and as personally as the Toyota sports cars from decades ago. That's why I am here, in this community, with plans to pick up one of the twins in the near future.

1st love was a celica 7th gen. that car made me realize my love for cars and discover my hobby.

got the FRS as it was the "next big toyota" performance car (even if its subaru). if it wasnt the FRS, i woulda got a used RS4 or something

Always had muscle cars, 65, 66, 3-68's.(Chevelle's) still have my last, convertable, a 68 BB 667CHP, Can burn the tires off in 3rd, HO lowered, poly-bushings, handled well for a tank(3800#) But the Legacy GT's got me back in to modern day Subies, I have 2 LGTL, one a S/W(stock), sedan is a Stg3+, still tuning, 336 whp, 410Q, mild but wild enough. I always loved the RWD and had many, Bought the BRZL, Subie reputation, rolling midlife, Love the handling and my +1 is I really don't have to work on it unless I want to, Like the cat back, MY choice. I do like the warranty!

My first love was my 2001 Honda S2000. After selling it due to practicality issues (convertible, 2 seater), I quickly missed the dynamics of the car. If only it was a 2+2 with a fixed metal roof.

When I heard Subaru and Toyota were working on a lightweight rwd sportscar, and that it would be a 2+2 coupe... I knew it would be like the S2K I always wanted. It turned out to be even more fun.

So to me, 200hp and 2765lbs is a perfect baseline for performance. Can't wait to stop messing with old cars and get a BRZ!

That was AE86, never bought one because of maintenance concerns.

First car: 97 318ti. 138hp, <2800lbs, good handling and 40 mpg hwy. many subarus after that, auto cross miatas and here I am with what I consider my dream car. I once dreamed of making my 2.5 RS rwd by pulling the front shafts, adding coil overs and turboing it.

Same here with the 240sx, though just running a stock SR with a little extra boost. Is it a huge shock for you going between the BRZ and the 240? I hate to admit, but my 240 love is waning a little since the BRZ feels sharper in every aspect aside from the clutch/gearbox interaction. I need to do something with the brakes and suspension setup at least.

Mustangs were my "first love" I guess, as soon as I turned 18 and could buy a car on my own I went out and bought one (that was 24 years ago). I've owned four of them over the years, and still have my '08 GT, although I wouldn't say owning Mustangs has led me to buy my BRZ.

I have also had several smaller, lightweight, good handling cars over the years, including:

-1996 DOHC Neon

-2005 Mini Cooper

One of the cars that I've loved the most though, and was responsible in large part for my path to the BRZ was the '90 Miata that I've owned for the last 6 1/2 years. If I wouldn't have bought the BRZ I would have gotten an NC Miata instead (still probably will when the BRZ is paid off in a couple years)

I think that based on my list, it is safe to say that I too am a huge fan of Japanese sports cars… Congrats on owning x2 RX7 Turbo's… The RX7 is and was one of the best cars ever produced… :thumbsup:

DAMN you have a great list of cars leading up too the TWINs… The Supra was always a milestone car… The way that the Supra held its value was and is unprecedented… Congrats on owning so many great cars… :coolpics:

I never owned a Celica but, every person that I have ever met that owned one had nothing but great things to say about that platform… I need to find someone that will let me test drive their Celica so that I too can understand why that car made so many people so happy… :respekt:

I understand the EVO passion.… Your choices in EVOs' are AWESOME! I know why and completely understand. As I said in my original post the EVO VIII is 100% the reason that I own a GT-R and the 300ZX TT is probably the reason I am getting a BRZ. The Z was always to heavy and I believe that the FR-S/BRZ is the size that the Z was supposed to be w/ a little more power of course… Great list of cars, thanks for sharing!

I love MY Subaru Legacy B4 and it is a car that I do currently own… They are just such great, fun and reliable cars that they grow on you. The AWD system truly is second to none in the normal car category…

Now Muscle cars, I never had the chance to build one up for myself. I helped a friend build a '67 Chevelle but that was my exposer… I agree with enjoying a newer car for warranty… Enjoy your BRZ! :burnrubber:
