What tint % do you have??

Getting my windows tinted tomorrow. The plan is 20% on the back and 35% on the side. Can you post a pic with what % you have? Want to make sure I'm not going too dark/too light

Pake1 11-12-2012 01:44 PM

35% all around on my brz.

Since mine is white, don't want the back darker than the front. Tint guy also recommended it all 1 color especially because of the lower number of windows

slowbrz 11-12-2012 01:50 PM

I think the same percentage all around looks better. I dont have tint yet but Im getting 35% all around next month. I dont like dark tint on sports cars.

tnt 11-12-2012 01:52 PM

got 35 sides and 55 rear

30% all around except front. You'll want to find a friend or two who has tint done and sit in it to get a feel for how it'll be. Be prepared to have a hard time backing up at night when there's no light around. :)

Do y'all think 20 will be too dark for the back??

Hardrock4445 11-12-2012 02:13 PM

I believe there is a tint picture thread. But, mine is not tinted yet but I plan on 20% all aground, it is very dark, but all of my past vehicles had 20%, so I don't change

I sat in an STi that had 5% all around and 50% on the windshield. It wasn't that bad, but I can't imagine driving when there is no light around.

My suggestion, find someone who has tint on their car at what you're looking for and ask if you can sit in it. Can't really judge from the outside, since looking from the inside out is much different.

Chen 11-12-2012 02:15 PM

35 tint all around on mine. Sometimes I wish it was darker

Tanuki 11-12-2012 02:28 PM

Stock on mine. I think factory its 75% all around? The cabin is so small on these cars that the sun really isn't too much of an issue. Tint for me is more about protecting the interior for long term care.

RL_BRZ 11-12-2012 02:29 PM

I used 70% all around...

speedy racer 11-12-2012 02:45 PM

As long as people have their lights on it's ok, but it'll take some getting used to. But if you're trying to back up with no light around, you might want to roll down your windows/open the doors so you can see better.

About that blind spot... I'm considering sticking on those convex things on the mirrors. I hate the way they look, but I've had them on all my other vehicles

Marek 11-12-2012 03:15 PM

7% all around except front I got 17%. Still very drivable at night

travace 11-12-2012 03:17 PM

i just did a test vid to test the new gopro hero 3 black out. it shows you my 5% pretty good. i can see through it a little better then the video shows tho.

You know, I thought I got 20 all around, but it doesn't look that dark.

Asphaltfrs1 11-12-2012 03:54 PM

35% all around as well

Could just be the fact that there is no direct light on or in the car, and given the angle, makes it seem darker then what it is.

speedy racer 11-12-2012 04:27 PM

Can someone post pics or vid of tint from inside at night please.

Burrcold 11-12-2012 04:36 PM

The way I think of 20% is that you can you see basic outlines of the person inside. At night, it's almost completely black and in direct sunlight it's transparent enough to tell if it's a male or female driver. 35% you could pretty much tell all of the above in all types of light. Obviously anything lower than 20% and you aren't seeing anything (although I find anything less than 20% to be too difficult to drive in at night).

Burrcold 11-12-2012 04:38 PM

Here is a better view (with some light) of my 20%:

Cajun 11-12-2012 04:43 PM

Legally in Louisiana we have to have 40% in the front. But that's almost nothing, especially on a dark colored car.

VirUzxZ 11-12-2012 04:46 PM

15% (Front/Passenger & rear) for me~ takes a bit getting used to. Can't lie i roll the windows down to back into places.

just missed it

SteveH 11-12-2012 06:04 PM

I had LLumar AIR 80 put on the windshield and LLumar ATC 35 on everything else (35% is the legal limit in TN).

One of the benefits that I’ve discovered is that the 35% side window tinting greatly reduces being blinded at night by the headlights of cars behind you reflecting off of the side-view mirrors directly into your eyes… kind of like flipping the rear-view mirror into the night position.

A5D5TRYR 11-12-2012 08:58 PM

My previous car (WRX sedan) had 5% on the rear window and two rear passenger windows, 20% on the two front passenger windows and a 20% 4" sunstrip on the front windshield. It was a black car and you couldn't see anything in the back seat from outside. Most of the time driving it around was fine, but parking it at night when you didn't have lights to look at was a bitch. When my new car comes in I'm planning on doing 35%. I think with the fewer windows it will look darker and the car is cool so I don't mind if people can see me driving it. I'm more tinting to keep the sun out and the interior temps down in the summer (plus tinting does look pretty sweet). Personally I won't go darker than 20% again. It's just a pain trying to see anything out of a blind spot at night.

aznknightz17 11-13-2012 01:14 AM

20% all around.

I did 30% all around. Originally was going to go 35%, but, tint guy persuaded me to go to 30%. Loving the look and besides, you can't tint the front windshield other than a strip at the top (I didn't do that).

This helped me somewhat in deciding the level of tint:

Here are the results:

JackTrasher 11-13-2012 04:04 AM

35% all around and I think its perfect. It's dark but not to the point of feeling like you're trying to hide and still allows you to communicate your thoughts to other drivers using hand gestures.

Cajun 11-13-2012 12:20 PM

Here now getting it done. Doing 30% all the way around. Will just pray to little baby Jesus I don't get pulled over for it. :-/ I guess I rather take the chance instead of doing it legal, because legal is so freaking light

Turbowned 11-13-2012 04:50 PM

I'm not a big fan of window tint, but I think I might do it lightly with this car. OEM is 75%? Has anyone done 40 or 50% and can post pics?

deedz 11-13-2012 05:04 PM

20% rears 35% front windows

wish I went 20% all around

deucethemoose 11-13-2012 05:11 PM

Also did 18% all around (SunTek). It's dark but not too dark. I like it.

Just hoping I don't get pulled over. Had 15% on my truck for 5 years and never had a problem.
