Subaru recently released the first images of the Subaru BRZ STI concept, but they’ve now also released the first teaser images of the production Subaru BRZ coupe, ahead of its debut next month at the Tokyo Motor Show!

Though the general shape of the front fascia appears to be similar between the production Subaru BRZ and the BRZ STI concept, there are also significant differences. The top piece of the production front grille is body color matched and the bottom of the grille features two slats instead of mesh. The side vent area is filled in by round fog lights and what may be an LED light stripe. Click on image below for larger version.

Press Release:

Tokyo, November 7, 2011 - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, announced its presentation at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show 2011. It will focus on "Enjoyment and Peace of Mind" which is the core value provided to the customers through the Subaru automobile experience, the foundation being Subaru's global brand statement "Confidence in Motion".

SUBARU BRZ

1. Concept
Based on its product concept of "Pure Handling Delight", at its core is the Horizontally-Opposed engine known for its light weight, compactness, and low center of gravity. That combined with Subaru's rear-wheel drive platform, the SUBARU BRZ seeks a new level of lowness in center of gravity, one of the lowest in the world, and offers excellent handling performance. It is a sports car that can provide a pure handling delight experience to anyone behind the wheel.

2. Mechanisms
Founded on the third generation Horizontally-Opposed engine, the SUBARU BRZ carries a new 2.0 liter Horizontally-Opposed 4-cylinder engine which was specially designed to fulfill the desired factors of a sports car.
Specifically, the bore and stroke are set in a square formation of 86 x 86mm and combined with Toyota's direct fuel injection technology (D-4S), thus allowing higher output and more environmental friendliness - the ideal for a new age sports car.

Compare to the BRZ STI concept :

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...8&d=1320156579

And interesting physical specs at the Japan site (per ichitaka):

BRZ: 4,200x1,770x1,270

vs.

FRS: 4,240x1,775x1,285

but wheel base is the same... (both 2,570)

Oh! Maybe from this angle, it looks less smiley! I am intrigued...

btw, are those headlights with an LED strip?

Oh and last comment... where did you find it?

Dark 11-07-2011 01:30 AM

Wait, this one looks very similar to the prototype spotted running recently. I'm really excited to see what it will turn out in less than a month.

Edit: Never mind, it says production version. So we have the official name? Subaru BRZ?

From the comparison, I think I like the production version better. I have to see full picture in real life first.

nogaroblues4 11-07-2011 01:40 AM

I got the image from insideline but you can also find it on Subaru.co.jp

Buggy51 11-07-2011 01:58 AM

Well... I'll trust you about the Subaru website >_> Can't navigate worth crap since I can't understand a thing... lol. Oh well

KaliKev 11-07-2011 01:59 AM

Looks awesome!

Bacon 11-07-2011 02:04 AM

Despite the "smiley" grill it's looking rather aggressive.

And FWIW, some STIs look sorta happy/smiley:

Looks expensive

Nambo 11-07-2011 02:10 AM

Looks good so far!

Toyota - Page by Page leak.
Subaru - Angle by Angle tease.

ashtray 11-07-2011 02:10 AM

I didn't think the production model would show until the Tokyo show, not the LA show? Or did they change their mind??

Either way, by the end of the month we should have full definite photos and even videos! :D

Zaku 11-07-2011 02:11 AM

I love the fact that it smiles it's one of the little major things that makes me want to buy it over the Toyota. Im so sick of the angry looking cars! they should be friendly but not lunatic like a Mazda 3. Thought I wouldn't say The Toyota is Angry more Handsome and aggressive. I like the BRZ's subtle aggressiveness with a smile. XD if that makes any sense.

Hachiroku 11-07-2011 02:12 AM

Added teaser of headlights to first post:

Lol, I guess... but isn't an insane lunatic smile even scarier than aggressive? XD

That's not official word from Subaru, but insideline. They are probably got BRZ STI concept debut date mixed up with BRZ production debut date.

Franisco 11-07-2011 02:29 AM

Looks pretty sexy so far!

Zaku 11-07-2011 02:29 AM

hmm you know there's alittle subtle diff from the teaser images, one of them has the BRZ with a Blue outline that glows. The Japanese one, the American one doesn't ahve that Blue glow behind the letter, and from the looks of the two BRZ. One of them looks to be Black in color and the other Blue. Maybe Im looking too deep into it.

Btw here's a link to an even bigger image if any one wants it

WIN.

Buggy51 11-07-2011 02:55 AM

Huh, the Subaru is going to be even smaller than the FR-S? o_O

LivingLegend 11-07-2011 02:59 AM

^ Thats what I was thinking too, seeing taht Subie's lineup are all practical cars! Will there even be any use for the backseats?

KaliKev 11-07-2011 03:01 AM

I think it's safe to assume the Subaru variant will be more expensive than scion.

So what do we get? More power and a lighter weight I hope! Maybe just a slight change in ECU to get another 10-15 hp...

If they think they can get away with a higher price and no difference in power people like myself will just get the cheaper scion, and they know that.

RWD_only 11-07-2011 03:01 AM

The smaller dimensions also surprise me. I'm really curious to see both cars side by side.

fernan2 11-07-2011 03:01 AM

i want it NOW!!!

Zaku 11-07-2011 03:05 AM

Wasnt there a rumor or an interview that resulted in a specluation of it being around 19k to 23k all these 25 to 28k is so recent and seem more around wrx`s range i doubt theyll do that to them selves. Keep it under 24k please! Heck if its expensive make it worth it.

RRnold 11-07-2011 03:14 AM

Thanks guys for sharing the updates!

Looks good so far! This teaser pic reminds of the Impreza teaser and then seeing the full model and how ugly it was lead to a complete let-down!

If this thing came in Plasma blue, it's a done deal!

That's old news. He doesn't specify trim levels though and anyone who believes that this will be a 19k car is smoking crack.
