replacing body panels after racing dmg...

So looking at the rear where most drift/racing dmg occurs(on race tracks of course!)

It looks like it will all have to be do e at a body shop...

This sucks hard!

If you can't afford to fix it, don't race it.

Even you drive on the freeway, rock chip will damage the front bumper and windshield. You can either fix it or leave it as is.

speed-wiz 11-05-2011 09:35 PM

And how many cars can you name -- cars that you would actually want -- that have bolt-on rear quarters or affordable clams?

chopstickz 11-05-2011 10:05 PM

LoL... what a waste of a thread.

Slide 11-05-2011 10:54 PM

GG guys.

/delete thread.

Don't seem to like it.

Who the fuck said it will be whilst the car is brand new.......

Could happen first day of getting the car could be 5 years from now still going to be a bitch to replace it.

Could also happen when driving out the drive way...
Someone could crash into you.

These are two different places than you originally implied they would happen. Unless you are fortunate enough to live on a race track. If shit happens out in the street then it happens, no tears, cant be avoided. But if you are flinging a car around a track that is different, you can expect damage at some point.

My Miata was peppered with this shit when I bought it. First order of business after purchase is a detail and having a clear bra applied. I'd do the whole car if it didn't cost $3k+.

Hmm... how good of an idea is that to place on the upcoming FR-S? I recall my friend mentioned this service, but I'm honestly not aware how it works. I'm looking online, and it reminds me of my iPhone skin protector... lol. Is it well... going to have bubble marks or anything like that?

I would do the front and the hood, (and probably the rear bumper), but not the whole car. It's a good idea to protect the paint though, but for 3K+, I'm not so sure.

You can definitely do it by yourself, I guess. It's like getting window tinted, but you need at least someone to help you since the clear bra can be too big.

Edit: I forgot to multi quote again, sorry guys. :S

Buggy51 11-06-2011 01:19 AM

Hmm... wlel I'm sure its doable, but is it as effective as they claim? lol Is it noticable when you look at it from a somewhat close distance?

You will notice it when the clear bra get a lot of scratches and weary. It's really hard to notice it when it's new. You still have to come close up to see if a car has clear bra or not. It can be hard to notice from 30ft away.

Edit: It's like a thick clear coat on your car, but removable.

Ah that makes sense, though now I'm wondering how much it might cost for it to be just applied by the dealer. I hate air bubbles lol...

You probably can check DIY on youtube. I'm not sure, but I guess there will be.

The cool thing about wraps is that you can protect your paint and get some really neat (if gaudy) effects out of it. Matte, chrome, gold, glow in the dark, or any color is possible, in addition to the standard clear film. Takes a lot of work to do, but I think it's a better solution than matte paint which can be hard to maintain or having your brand new car painted a certain color that wasn't offered from the factory.

If the car is clean, it's very hard to notice. The light has to hit it right at the edge, and you do have to be pretty close to notice otherwise.

Buggy51 11-06-2011 12:49 PM

Ah hmm so aesthetics wise its a good idea. Now cost wise... hmm... lol oh well time will tell when the car arrives. Any particular brand? or is uh clear bra literally the only one?

Some other brands are out there, not sure I'd go with ClearBra brand-wise, they just sorta ended up like Kleenex. I'd probably go with a company using 3M products, I had good results from Lamin-X for headlight covers in the past, and they do front end paint protection now too.

Edit: Sorry bro. :threadjacked:

Someone starts this topic. :D
I think after the car releases, we should add detailing section.

Edit: Any white matte pearl wrap? I'm more interested.

Want.FR-S 11-06-2011 08:15 PM

Where can I get the whirlly wrap shown in the concept?

Joke aside, the clear bra can help you protecting small stones or rocks. Of course, if you hit something large, it could still dent the car.

Since your car can be hit in any angle, full car wrap (> 3K price tag) might not be a bad idea, if you really cherish your car that much.

SHINCHU86 11-07-2011 10:10 AM

this thread didnt get awesome until it was derailed. LMAO

yeah i was thinking about clear bra too. my camaro is borked.

ohhh yeah and what about that new meguire's wrap stuff? wraptivo i think its called?
call me a ricer but im interested in the textured carbon! (only if i cant get the part in actual carbon or crabon wrapped FRP)

annnd finally to the OP:
thats why you wait for somebody to make FRP rear widebody overfenders lol
just make sure you get wider wheels to fill the 30-50mm extra fender there. or look lame with 30-50mm of spacer. bleh.

nate89 11-07-2011 09:14 PM

A clear bra is probably gonna be a must on the scion. I know Toyota cheaped out on their paint the past few years to cut cost. I thought my bumper was covered in bugs before I noticed it was paint chops.

3m and lamin-x are very good brands. I have lamin-x yellow tint on my this and its held up great for the past 3 years.

Also, why don't the make clear bras for women? J/k

Clear bras? They don't need bra for that anymore. LOL I kid I kid. Don't be offended woman fellows. haha

I think the car is made in Subaru plant, so the paint on Scion will be as thick/thin as Subaru. Just slap clear bra on and call it a day. :)

So washing the car/waxing over it is a-okay? How much did it roughly cost?
