GROUP BUY: Blackvue DR400g-HD II

Not actually my sale, just something i saw and thought it would be good to get more people aboard. Please move if it belongs elsewhere. It's a pretty damn good discount from what they sell for on Amazon, its the new version of it.

bump for highly discounted camera!

Vicious LED 11-08-2012 06:03 PM

This is awesome! I've been considering buying a dash cam and this seems perfect.

My thought exactly. And the price is spot on ($200 vs 270 on amazon). Too bad the timer only has 2 and a half days left on it.

Need to put this on the main FR-S thread and get everyone to hop on so it gets even cheaper

akuhei 11-08-2012 06:28 PM

It wasnt/isnt mine, I just bumped it to hopefully get more people to notice.

Vicious LED 11-08-2012 06:32 PM

I just bought mine.

Oh man, my PayPal account is going to explode :eyebulge:

Lee358 11-08-2012 08:34 PM

Has any one used this company before?

MmmHamSandwich 11-08-2012 08:47 PM

I am not familiar with Mass Drop. Are they legit?

Anyone know what firmware this one comes with?

akuhei 11-08-2012 08:59 PM

Just a little looking on google pulled up lots of other forums with Mass Drop on them. A quick glance showed anything from Racing Seats to Car Lifts to headphones. Seems legit to me. I havent used them before, but will probably get in on this one.

akuhei 11-08-2012 09:30 PM

talking to one of their representatives, they have been in business for 4-6 months, so they are really new. But they claim to be growing quickly (and my previous google searching does seem to back that up a bit). They also said that though it isnt listed, it does come with a 16gb microSD card included. They are also considering and will likely extend the group buy because they have gotten a lot of interest.

seven 11-08-2012 09:41 PM

posting as a note to buy later.

MmmHamSandwich 11-08-2012 09:42 PM

Well I really want one of these cameras, and that is a great price, but I'll need to do a bit more snooping on them before I bite the bullet.

e-mail sent to them to see what firmware, and to ensure this will be an american version (have seen other complaints on other forums about getting korean domestic versions so thought I would check that too). I hope to have a response in the morning tomorrow.

MmmHamSandwich 11-08-2012 09:47 PM

Is there any way to get that damn log in/sign up window to fuck off?

I thought it was because I manually accept cookies but nope. I can't abide by a website that does that crap. Reeks of arrogance when a company assumes you will blindly hand them your info just to see what they're on about.

...no, not that I've found. But... http://metareddit.com/r/Massdrop
That is most of the information from their site anyway. And it kinda explains the login thing.

I certainly appreciate you finding this info, but the fact they don't make it available, even under their FAQ is bad. The fact that I, as a customer have these questions and another customer has to be the one to track the info down is even worse.

Doesn't bode well for how they operate IMHO.

akuhei 11-08-2012 10:02 PM

:iono:Meh, no problem. They are still new, perhaps they havent thought of that or realized that yet. So far, they were quick to respond to the chat they had available and I couldnt find any complaints in the quick search/digging i did.

I am learning more about them as I go too, so i dont mind doing some research on them. BTW: From their facebook page:

Is there really no way to get rid of the floating "sign in" window on your website besides actually signing in?

Massdrop: Hey xxxx. Unfortunately the only way is to sign in. Keeping our site "private" has allowed us to get some awesome prices on the things that our users want. This was done to meet the requirements of several suppliers of ours.

LeavingNormal 11-08-2012 10:36 PM

Whoa it took a few days but looks like thanks to someone's bump this threads finally alive. Yeah I hope they do extend the sale and that it's not the Korean firmware. I'm still on the fence because it have such little info but if they can clear that up it would be great, thanks to whoever asked them about it.

Lee358 11-09-2012 12:14 AM

They responded:

Will | Massdrop replied:
Hi there!

The blackvue comes with the US firmware and it is the most up to date version blackvue will ship us.

Have an excellent evening!

-Will

So, US firmware and up-to-date. And they get the product directly from the manufacturer.

Mr.Jay 11-10-2012 06:24 PM

Here a link you guys might want to check out

http://dashcamtalk.com/dash-cam-comparison/

They don't recommend this dash cam

The one I have the DVR 027 is the cheapest ($60ish) and best rated. I recommend it actually with my only complaints about it is the mount doesnt stick on nearly as well as I would like and its huge. I modded mine to be much smaller but the mount still doesnt stay in place when its cold or super hot out

akuhei 11-10-2012 06:28 PM

I've seen this one work just fine down here in Florida, so I'm not really worried about it. It seemed to have great video quality and the person who had it highly recommended it. Interesting article though.

I actually was going to get one too because the quality of the picture looks soo good but from the article they mention a noticeable drop in picture

here the link to the review of the Blackvue itself

Yeah I remembered reading about overheating issues before I placed an order

I'll pass on this one...

Lee358 11-10-2012 09:10 PM

Kinda wish i saw that but too late now its ok only $200

I still think it will be fine. Some people reported over-heating, but I tend to feel that complaints are over-exaggerated online. People who dont have problems rarely leave feedback, making the actual problems seem worse than they are. I will find out soon, but so far, this view on things hasnt failed me. I'm in the worst place to try if the new one, which is supposed to have fixed the overheating issues. Florida be hot..x.x

Maybe I should grab one, heat is the least of my worries here right now, it's -19 degrees celcius right now with the wind chill and snowin" like a motha ;)

I could use it to heat the car

Does sound like heat is unlikely to be an issue for you

Looks like the recommended Dash cam is the http://dashcamtalk.com/itronics-itb-100hd/ which is the same price as the group buy. Feature wise at least its the closest to the Blackvue. Well for anyone still on the fence you have 3 more days to consider since they extended the Group Buy. I'm gonna research this itronics version now before i pull the trigger. Thanks for the heads up Jay.

Aznek 11-11-2012 04:08 PM

I believe this mass-drop group buy might actually be from Canada's RFD community. http://forums.redflagdeals.com/group...5-a-1251973/6/

Lots of drama with this product it seems. You'll want to read the latest two pages to get the full scoop.

From what I can tell, the manufacturer wants to maintain a minimum selling price for these units ($270 i believe). Group-buys and ebay sellers are undercutting these minimums. A certain large reseller in the North American market is making a big stink about these group-buys and ebay resellers undercutting him and selling below the minimum price, this certain large reseller tried to strong arm the group-buy organizer into selling for a higher price and taking a cut for himself. Group-buy organizer refused and posted the sneaky suggestion for all the forum to see. I hear the the manufacturer PITASOFT is being a PITA for returns for anyone buying through the group-buy. The funny thing is the group-buy organizer is and has been an authorized reseller this whole time.

Apparently, Itronics has caught wind of this and has approached the organizer with their product...

Lee358 11-11-2012 05:52 PM

So basically it would be best to back out of this group buy

Good digging. Juicy information and a mess over there. One of the comments said that they wont be selling the items to Massdrop, so it will be interesting to see if they will be able to complete the GB or not. They (Massdrop) dont seem to be stopping it, so we will see. I all ready put in my order for mine, so we will see how it works out in a few days.

Lee358 12-07-2012 02:56 PM

Has anyone that ordered gotten there camera yet?
