Advice Requested: Rebadged GT86 in the wrong location

Hi everybody, excuse me for posting a personal problem in the General Forum but I would prefer a larger audience for the answers I am seeking.

Today I rebadged the FR-S with Toyota emblems (front, rear, wheel caps, and even put clear sidemarkers) then I went ahead and debadged the FR-S emblem and directly replaced it with the GT86 emblem, at the same position and location.

I was so excited to put everything on, that I had forgotten that the GT86 was placed more lower to the right, and to me, personally, I feel like I am an ignorant owner and am quite bothered by it.

Here's mine:

Here's where it normally goes:

I'd like to hear what people have to say about my mistake...should I leave it or re-do it to get an OEM look (which really only FR-S owners would notice or major car enthusiasts).

Thanks in advanced.

redo

R2RO 11-07-2012 02:59 AM

Like it really matters, if you feel like you need it at the OEM position. Then i would suggest redoing it, but really no one really cares. Your probably the first person to do it their, i would leave it cause its not a big deal IMO.

chimmay 11-07-2012 03:00 AM

Even though it looks fine, redo, I would get annoyed knowing its not in the right place. Btw looks great.

Guff 11-07-2012 03:12 AM

lol, do whatever you want!

If it bothers you enough to make a thread about it, then fix it! You'll have some peace of mind.

Xanatos 11-07-2012 03:44 AM

Leave it, its fine and "unique" in a good way. You can say no other 86 has it in the same location. And besides your still missing Toyota emblem that would be more obvious to enthusiasts than a few inches off mark.

ihaskrayon 11-07-2012 03:50 AM

I say no badge at all. But it doesn't look bad. If I was at a meet or saw your car in a parking lot I wouldn't be scratching my head thinking something was totally wrong. It's only off by 1/2" or so. No biggie.

^ This.

BanzaiZee 11-07-2012 07:13 AM

Uh, if you had the same sized license plate as the "correct" picture, then MAYBE redo it.... But it looks like you're in good ol' amurica (/sarcasm) so you should really be fine (no sarcasm).

RazorHawk 11-07-2012 07:14 AM

I think that with the US license plates the shape they are, that it looks better where you currently have it. If you had Euro plates, it would work better in the other location.

P.S. Wheres the Toyota one for the other side?

Leave it there, but make absolutely sure that if you put the Toyota badge on the opposite side, that it lines up in a straight line, otherwise it will look tacky as hell.

#87 11-07-2012 08:18 AM

anyone who knows enough to know its misplaced slightly will know you don't have a GT 86 anyway

so wats the problem?

TheSt|G 11-07-2012 08:32 AM

Redo it. You are going to be permanently bugged by it.

MVJ1975 11-07-2012 08:32 AM

I'd redo it. It's going to eat at you until you do.

Also, get the Toyota badge.

+1. As stated - if you put enough effort into making a thread you may as well redo the badge location.

What's going to kill you is if you don't redo it and you go to a car meet and someone also rebadged their FRS but managed to rebadge in proper location

jadewbj 11-07-2012 08:53 AM

Redo. Be right if you do something.

Synack 11-07-2012 10:14 AM

Redo if you get bothered by stuff like that. Don't if you don't care all that much because there isn't a Toyota logo on the left side to match it up against.

Tanuki 11-07-2012 10:16 AM

Burn it.

BlaineWasHere 11-07-2012 10:17 AM

I replaced the Scion badges with Toyota ones but I think it looks much cleaner without any FR-S or GT-86 badge period.

Nevermore 11-07-2012 10:47 AM

Maybe it's because I'm not really a car guy, or maybe it's the angle of the pictures, but, I really can't tell it's off. >_>

wootwoot 11-07-2012 10:53 AM

It is a bit too far to the left as you look at the back of the car. Took me a bit to see it as well.... I say it doesn't matter.

JDMenrique 11-07-2012 11:01 AM

i can barely see the difference, all up to you

bestwheelbase 11-07-2012 11:11 AM

Do what makes you feel better. If you want the OEM look, it needs to move.

It still looks better than the Camry badges they intentionally mount crooked on the trunk of new mdoels. :bellyroll:

GT86drifter 11-07-2012 11:26 AM

it looks fine did u place it where the FR-S was before?

whaap 11-07-2012 11:49 AM

I can't help but wonder why you would ask our opinion when it's only you that the issue is important to.

NOHOME 11-07-2012 12:52 PM

Get a life.:bonk:

switchlanez 11-07-2012 01:08 PM

Redo it if it came with a template to position it exactly like the JDM/EDM version. If you are going to eyeball it, it still won't be spot on to where it should be. In that case, I would keep it where it is (assuming you marked and replaced it exactly where the FR-S badge originally was). Like someone mentioned, the current position lines up better with your USDM license plate. In that sense, the current position (if exactly lined up to USDM badging) will be more "perfect" than if you were to eyeball it to the JDM/EDM position.

Veloist 11-07-2012 01:37 PM

I'd like to extend my thanks to each and everyone who responded despite their answer.

I'm going to leave the badge where it is because I do not want to debadge and risk damage to the paint again even though I'm still pretty delicate, plus the risk of micro marring. I'd rather have a badge in the wrong position than messed up paint.

I'll address some of the statements I've seen;

- I'm asking for opinions because I wanted to see if it people actually cared that it isn't in the vicinity of the original location on a factory GT86.

- I thought it would've been like an "unwritten rule" or a widely accepted practice to badge the GT86 emblem at the original spot :iono: (but the badging instructions did not come with the badge even though a PDF of it does exist)

- Lurkers and existing members will also have a peace of mind when/if installing their own badge.

- I'm not putting the TOYOTA badge because the T badge is enough to expose the Toyota heritage. Even in a factory GT86, I would've taken it off.

- Yes the current GT86 badge is right where the original FR-S was located. (In reality it is only a few single-digit millimeters higher to the left)

- I am a cat so I have 9 lives

Thank you again everyone!

Good thinking.

I like how it's a little different take on OEM badging. Subtle, personal.

I plan to do the same i wasnt going to follow the guide to install it

Flat Black VW 11-07-2012 04:31 PM

I voted move it because I know if it were mine it would drive me insane. If it doesn't bother you as much as it does me then don't worry about it.

ROCKETS86 11-07-2012 05:41 PM

looks silly id remove it all together and replace it with the toyota lettering..

akyp 11-07-2012 08:47 PM

My OCD would make me redo it. Surprised the badge doesn't come with a template for positioning.

Fun fact: My 86 (not GT86) doesn't have the GT86 badge, but does have the Toyota lettering. JDM 86s have neither.

PMok 11-09-2012 03:06 AM

yeah I was gonna say, if you want to be all JDM looking you have the wrong badge... you're looking Euro-spec. does the JDM/HK 86 have any 86 badging on it?

Yes, piston badges on fenders and the embossed '86' on the steering wheel.

oh sorry, I meant on the back... aside from the Toyota badge is there anything else that says '86' or GT86?

eriktherod 11-09-2012 03:18 PM

What will always bother you is the stupid steering wheel. :P

Nothing at all. Here's my car:

PMok 11-10-2012 09:54 AM

Nice and clean. But I would consider removing the TOYOTA badge.

Chad86 07-19-2014 05:20 PM

Is there a template to line these up exact to the GT86?
