The OFFICIAL Ohlins Coilover Suspension thread - High End Competition Suspension
http://www.modbargains.com/images/Pr...ons-banner.jpg ModBargains and Ohlins are very happy to announce that a Coilover kit will be available for the FRS/BRZ. Of course to some of you, this isn't new news, but to the majority of the forum, this might be completely new. I'll be sure to update my thread as much as I can in regards to these coilovers, which I've personally had the pleasure of dealing with Ohlins directly to get for you. This is an informational thread, pricing will not be divulged, as if you're interested in that, please just message me directly to keep this thread on topic. Information that has been released would be the following: General Features: - DFV (Dual Flow Valve) - Rebuildable - Corrosion Salt Spray Tested (ISO 9227) - 2 Year Limited Warranty Front: - McPherson Strut - Top Mounts with Camber adjustments - Coil Springs - Height adjuster - Spring preload adjuster - Single bleed adjuster - Dustcovers Rear: - Conventional shock absorber - Top mounts - Height adjuster - Length adjuster - Single bleed adjuster - Spring preload adjuster - Coil Springs - Dust covers This is the latest step in the Ohlins Racing automotive philosophy - Road&Track by Ohlins. A more than 30 year long tradition of high-end racing commitments and state of the art solutions within advanced suspension technology is now available for street cars all over the world. The focus has been clear from the very beginning - superior road handling without sacrificing comfort in your day-to-day transports. The time of compromises are over! Ohlins have also added a clever light-weight design with a majority of the parts in aluminum and on the top of that all shocks have suffered through vast corrosion tests according to ISO 9227. The end result is a 2-year limited warranty on all of our products - worldwide. UPDATE: More info for you guys straight from Ohlins... All of the McPherson upright mounts are extruded, then machined. Pricing as of right now should be listed around $3400, but that is subject to change, so don't quote me on that right now. Spring rates haven't been announced, but will be soon. Most all of the kits are height adjustable from stock (or very near stock) 40-50mm below stock ride height. Kits will include the top mounts shown at SEMA which would be the Spherical bearing front/rear with camber adjustment on fronts. These will be using a 2.5" I.D. Spring. BRZ has yet to be confirmed on the top mounts, not sure if springs will be compatible with stock mounts or not. Ohlins has their own spring manufacturer in Europe making springs to their specs. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...52021B5F54.jpg http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...4BF00A35B5.jpg Thanks to the Ohlins Team at SEMA! |
I'll be veeeery curious to see how these stack up to the offerings from AST, JRZ, KW, and even Bilstein. I know Ohlins is though of very well in the 2 wheeled world.

Those lower mounts look glorious. Are they forged or billet? Hard to tell with the coating.

how much?

Spring rates?
Drop amount? Can you get them with/use them with regular top mounts? Also, I always wondered who makes Öhlins' springs? Do they make their own? I know in Japan they use Eibach... Öhlins is the only coilover I would consider buying. Their DFV and TTX designs, as well as their quality, is the best in the world. |

Been waiting for Öhlins. Was going to jump the gun and get JRZ, but I decided to hold out for these. Can't wait to order.
|
Had the DFV setup on my my Miata and drove it daily for 3 years. Never had any problems with it.
|
The 2 year warranty makes me worry a little. I'm not 100% sure how long they support there old products but I heard it's not "forever". If there was some guarantee on servicing i'll go ohlins

At any rate they look excellent and probably perform even better. |

I ran Ohlins on my STR mx-5 car that were custom valved for higher spring rates and I just loved them. This is definitely one of my options that I am thinking about . . .
|
I've got Ohlins 25mm cartridges and a TTX36 shock on my CBR600RR and absolutely love them. Can't wait to read the comparison threads. More options are definitely a good thing.

I don't mind going through a third party vendor instead of Ohlins after the parts are discontinued. I would just want to be 100% sure it's serviceable by a reputable shop in lets say a decade from now. |
That is awesome!! I emailed OhlinsUSA as soon as the FR-S/BRZ came out and they said they didn't plan on making a set for Scion/Subaru. Glad they were able to conform and make it happen.

Isn't "Ehrlins" the correct pronunciation?
|
I think so, hence why I made the meme.

Latest update is that coilovers should be available around the month of March next year! Better plan your tax returns accordingly :)
|
Ohlins makes amazing products! Excited to see them developing an 86 set. I am sure you will see these on all the new competition FRS & BRZ currently being built.

Lol, love how this thread has turned into what the pronunciation of Ohlins is, haha! I've been saying it for years as "Oh-Leans" if you want an easier way to say it... I've heard other variations, but that's what the guys at the Ohlins booth at SEMA told me, so I'll run with it ;)
|
I found out Ohlins Japan has been offering them awhile ! The JDM version looks a little bit different and they are build to order ! It has the JDM price tag as well :D
http://ohlins.czj.jp/auto/Item/BTO-ZN6_DFV_HAL.html Retail price $4354 after conversion....... I hope it will be a lot cheaper from US distributors :) |
The JDM versions are indeed different. Ohlins USA offerings are a lot more Swedish in their valving (a good thing)

The only thing that sucks is they won't be offering TTX valving...which for anyone who has ever messed around with coilover valves knows is leaps and bounds easier to work with. You could buy valve/shim stacks that were literally drop in. I had them on my bikes and loved being able to change them out and do my own maintenance. I asked and they said that due to the front strut setup they didn't see a viable way of doing it...also no remote reservoirs kinda sucks too...but beyond that these will be the bees knees.

uulins?

if you have have the money for these, get them...drool

Even though i live in Sweden it's often cheaper for me to buy Öhlins from a US or UK vendor :O
|
the road and tracks are great suspension no doubt, but i wouldnt go as far as calling them "high end competition suspension" It would be safer to say that the Ohlins TTX are a "high end competition suspension" but i dont think these are available for the BRZ/FRS yet, someone correct me if im wrong.
