HKS Spec L - Perfect!

Hello all,

Recently bought an HKS Spec L from FT-86 Speedfactory.

Excellent service, very fast shipping, and excellent pricing!!!

Anyways, onto the product itself.

Absolutely LOVE the dual tipped cat-back installed on my FR-S. It compliments the vehicle perfectly.

Sound: it's not too loud and yet, when revving high RPM's it sounds beastly! It's heard quite audibly in the cabin, but not to the point where it's ALL you can hear. It's literally the perfect combination of sound and excitement.

Performance: I'm VERY happy. It's definitely a noticeable gain over the stock exhaust, it feels more powerful and definitely exceeded my expectations for just a bolt-on.

Looks: Marvelous! I installed an aftermarket Seibon CF rear diffuser so the pipes are not exactly "centered" however, they're the perfect size. The tips are even complimented with a nice "HKS" stamped black piece, adding to the overall look of the tail end.

Overall Rating: 10/10. Looks, performance and sound are exactly what I was looking for. I'm definitely a happy camper with this, and have received A LOT of compliments on it as well.

Thanks FT-86 Speedfactory! I'll definitely be doing future business with you, Jeremy!

Here's a photo of it installed:

Was curious to see if anyone gotten it yet. I saw in other photos that they werent very centered even on a stock car. Its a look people either love or hate.

IMO I love the sound of it basing it off the youtube videos. It sounds very mature. Only thing I dont like is that it doesnt center well even on a stock car and its performance for its price is what bugs me the most.

For the love of god. Dont quote posts with lots of pictures. Especially when you are talking to the OP. I am pretty sure everyone knows you are going to be asking him the question. No need to quote the whole thing and make people have to scroll more.

Annoying as hell

Damaged in transit, and they were a first-make so they have to fabricate new ones for me

Also, the tail lights were smoked out using VHT nightshade...these are stock housings though.

Indeed, unfortunately I purchased the HKS before SEMA, then received a sponsorship from Seibon for the carbon fiber kit. They didn't give us any info on what the kit would look like, so we didn't have a clue until we unboxed it :mad0260:

those mufflers look so rice and fast and the furious to me....just my 2 cents ut i am not judging anyone who likes it or buys it.

SubieNate 11-06-2012 03:22 PM

I be it sounds great but I too dislike the look. The super short exhaust tip with the can RIGHT under the bumper reminds me of PepBoys mufflers.

Doesnt matter its annoying as hell. And I am sure a lot of people would agree with me also. Unless your asking someone else a question and it isnt the OP then fine but when its so obvious its the OP your talking to please dont do it.

I love my Spec-L, my buddies at deft motion were able to get mine in late August maybe 5 days after I got my car haha. I can't wait to add over pipe down pop and header, going to sound like a monster. And I love the tips, not ricey at all IMO

jumbaco 11-08-2012 12:01 PM

that exhaust has a pretty dated look for some reason. Does it have a rolled tip? If it was a single wall slash cut tip I think it would look better.

mikeg7827 11-08-2012 12:24 PM

imo the tips are too small ...doesnt look right.. i mean i like hks but i was expecting something more from this exhaust system.. just seem to fit the bill for me.. if anyone has it and likes it.. more power to them, :)

Vicious LED 11-08-2012 12:31 PM

Yeah, it's quiet compared to most exhausts however I still have stock headers/mid pipe/down pipe. That's when I feel like the true sound will really resonate out of this thing. It's definitely a CLEAN sound though.

Are the wheels still top secret?

Hey, what do you mean by this when you say "isn't very centered?"

The fitting isnt great on the back of the OEM piece where the exhausts stick out at. He uses the Seibon CF, I am talking about the non CF one that comes with the car. The diffuser?

Ok, so are you saying that the exhaust fitting isn't very good on the stock diffuser?

That would be the rear diffuser, yes. It was never installed on my stock diffuser as my sponsor's had put the CF diffuser on, and then the exhaust. So I couldn't tell you first hand whether the positioning was off or not on stock body.
