Spyder Tail Lights for FR-S & BRZ

Hey guys, nobody has really started a conversation about the Spyder tail lights yet, so here is our new topic for them.

They first popped up at SEMA 2012 on the FatLace car and also on KW Suspension car outside. They were featured in the SEMA New Product Showcase with a FEATURE LINK HERE.

The website for the manufacturer is here, but they don't show them yet:
http://www.spyderauto.com/

List pricing on the info sheet at SEMA says $980/pair. Whew, that's pretty steep.

That price is way too steep, especially as they still have improvements to make. Namely the tube (I assume is the brake light) looks like a glowstick. They need to make that clear.

DarrenDriven 11-05-2012 09:10 PM

I have emailed them for more info. Waiting on a response.

Disgustingly Ugly

nightfire 11-05-2012 09:30 PM

I think they look pretty cool actually

The official "Altezza" taillights of 2012/2013!

Subie 11-05-2012 10:36 PM

When will VatoZone carry them?

:barf:

Norkoastal 11-05-2012 10:44 PM

If only a manufacturer would get owner input to make some lights... These are probably 3x as busy as many of us need...

PhastekSport 11-05-2012 10:53 PM

I think they would look really good with a dark lens. MSRP is suppose to be that high, but look for vendors to be carrying them at lower. I can almost guarantee it :party0030:.

I might in fact get a set, tint the casing and see what people think. Spyder does carry a few variations of most lights, so it wouldn't be surprising if they did the same with this vehicle.

boredom.is.me 11-05-2012 11:24 PM

Actually, there has been talk about these.

Here has more solid info though.

Lonewolf 11-05-2012 11:27 PM

These are horrid. When I spoke with a Spyder Auto rep a few months ago, they said they had planned on offering multiple options, and a redout as well as a blackout bezel option were being considered...I wonder what happened :iono:

empower-auto 11-05-2012 11:32 PM

It's official. "86 Tax" is born

goke186 11-05-2012 11:33 PM

if they werent almost $1000 they would be a potential purchace, but since i can get an JDM stealth chrome set for around $675(was a little off on price sorry) I'd rather buy those

Ooh, link please?

goke186 11-05-2012 11:40 PM

^ edited with correct price and linky

FR-Shadow 11-06-2012 10:03 AM

Yeah I agree with everyone else. For $1000 I feel I can get something else that makes the car stand out. For now I will just be tinting my tail lights for $250 I feel is a lot more in my price range of what I want to spend on looks for this car.

Hi, The FR-S tail lights that you saw at SEMA are not out just yet, they were more of a first look at what is to come. At this time we do not have a ETA on the dates for release as the logistics are still in motion. Keep in touch within the near months to stay updated if you would like.

I like the idea but needs better execution.

1. the glow stick needs work.
2. needs to be solid red, not clear.

Tambat 11-06-2012 01:34 PM

ugly and expensive : the worst combination!

mechaghost 11-06-2012 01:34 PM

get rid of the glow stick looking tube with something else and maybe we have something. But I do agree with the dark tinting because it doesnt look bad lit up, only when it is off that it looks fugly

nos145 11-06-2012 03:39 PM

i think they are trolling these forums and based on how everybody hates the current version they decided to rework it?

the clear ones are a definite ugly, the one that is on the SEMA car seems to be a red out? looks decent from SOME viewing angles...

really need a few options on these for the different car colors

and the price should be $699 max as well... otherwise people will spend money on better mods

raul 11-06-2012 03:56 PM

They look amazing, but 2 issues:

1. The stock tail lights look good enough (at least for the FR-S), and any money spent would probably be for improving the headlights first.

2. They look too pink-ish in daylight.

Turbowned 11-06-2012 04:01 PM

They look horribly unfinished. I want to see them fix it so it doesn't look like a bent-up glowstick with a bicycle reflector in the middle. I know it can be done!

Here are a couple more since you guys seem to like them so much. I thought they were kinda cool in person.

While I think they still have improvements to make, I'm actually still interested in buying them. But only if a vendor can offer a huge discount, because that price is ridiculous.

Books 11-06-2012 04:41 PM

Kinda like them, kinda don't. The white light line looks a bit too plasticy/fake for me. For that price, it's a definite no.

jedichimp 11-07-2012 04:03 PM

I think it's because they look a little pink, instead of red. Anyone seen a photo of them with the turn signal on?

Broz 11-07-2012 06:03 PM

I like them but they are DOUBLE the price of the similar TYC / Colin Project tails.
They range anywhere from $380 - $500 for pair from Japan.

xravexboix 11-07-2012 06:22 PM

I'll be having a meeting with Spyder next week regarding the tail lights and head lights (head lights are designed to be like the JDM factory one). I'll get some concrete information for you guys after the meeting.

ST185RC 11-07-2012 06:38 PM

That to me is the most unpleasant looking set of rear lights, even more so than altezzas. The rear of that car now looks like it has herpes and that glow tube looks like some shoddy work. The ends have a distinctive fade out and looks like a pvc piping connector. Looks like a cheap neon sign for a strip bar going out of business.

God have mercy on that car.

jedichimp 11-07-2012 06:55 PM

I just think a light opacity red vinyl overlay would make them look better. The amber turn signal is a no no for me. But I'm sure the overlay/paint would take care of that.

Not as bad as the ~$1400 for the Grazio ones.

The "glow tube" is similar to BMW LCI taillights, I don't know quality of these, we'll just have to wait and see. But if Arcenal and others are rockin them on their show cars they can't be too "shoddy"
