Wheels

Hi all, found these on the net...what you guys think? Do they worth that much? They are not original but they look ok, better than other replicas I have seen around.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Set-of-4-...item2c667e2028

Should I get these or the Rota MXR?

Blue86 11-05-2012 06:18 PM

Looks good

Panman 11-05-2012 06:39 PM

For that money I'd buy Gambit's genuine Enkeis.

please dont support the fakes!

RAN94A 11-05-2012 07:31 PM

im all for replica wheels, because hell not everyone can afford 4 grand for a set of wheels.

but in this case even knocking off the centre caps is a little too blatant for my taste. if they came with generic centre caps id say do it.

ZZT86 11-05-2012 07:51 PM

This car looks very sexy with BBS CHR but hard to justify a LOT of coin, otherwise a big fan of kiwami in bronze

If someone is in a spray canned S14 or something I'll look the other way but not for a $35k vehicle when you can get Enkeis, work, even flawless second hand RAYS wheels for under $2k.

Sorry for the confusion caused but I should have mentioned that I had two on order and I have cancelled one (that was due sometimes in Jan Feb) because I am getting a bit quicker (December). In a different circumstances i would've gone for the 13 plate but my personal cirucmstances force me to get the one that arrives quicker.

exactly. even brand new enkies are quite affordable (from around $1.5k depends on size and spec). no good reason to buy reps.

For even cheaper i can get some 16 inch ones too. The thing is I like the look of BBS lm's on the gts. The Rota mxr look very similar to these which look very close to the real BBS.

In terms of quality/weight which do you guys think is better? These BBS LM replicas or the Rota MXR? if you read the BBS replica quality warranty it seems they are quite good...but hey...what do I lknow?

jabbajaw99 11-05-2012 08:43 PM

A couple details are not mentioned. Weight, material, construction, max load......

RAN94A 11-05-2012 09:27 PM

go Rota... well estabilished, solid backing, decent quality (aside from all the people who love posting the same old images circulating the net since the stone ages.)

if this ebay seller disappears your up a creek without a paddle for warranty... who knows who even makes these.

Surok 11-05-2012 10:19 PM

1277 for RPF1 brand new...

t0dd 11-05-2012 10:56 PM

Personally I wouldn't touch cheap knock-off wheels from eBay, you get what you pay for!

GaN-MaN 11-06-2012 12:05 AM

@jonbatz01 is selling his MXR's. Might wanna chat with him.

jonbatz01 11-07-2012 09:15 AM

I would go with Rotas as well lol

ROCKETS86 11-07-2012 06:32 PM

Im buying those BBS copies...ill let you know how they are but im still sceptical

86drift 11-07-2012 07:59 PM

With Enkeis starting at around $900, why would people buy Chinese made rims...

Ask any tyre fitter and I'm sure they'll have stories to tell about Chinese rims. I've seen one shatter from a pot hole.

Buy 'em, if they last you've saved yourself a couple grand.

ZZT86 11-07-2012 08:54 PM

Safety first ! Just like tyres, I try to get reputable quality I know will look after you & your car, wheels are in the same category.

And if they kill you, you'll have saved even more - no more payments ever.

Not really! I was going to buy the Rota MXR but I will drive with the stock wheels for some time as I have funds blocked in a different venture. At first I didnt realise they are knock off's really! i was even surprise by the price as I know BBS are very expensive. I have seen them in real life here and they look quite ok...BUT you can tell they are not the real deal unless you dig the cheap looking wheels and you dont know.

Also, I tohught that people might've tried them already! I would probably go for Rota's mXr but open to suggestions of manufacturers that makes wheels in the BBS style with polished lip.

I understand this but some of those Rotas have better offsets. :scared0012:

Nezz 11-08-2012 12:20 AM

More weight is bad! Bad! ... and that's my opinion out.

This guy sells them cheaper.

OP: I think the NT03+M's look better and suited(more modern) to the car than the LM's. LM's are cool for that old school 'stance' look if that's your thing.
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8030/8...f2fd8085_b.jpg

If you get the fakes, be careful over the potholes lol

EDIT: Oh yeah, the NT03+M's are an ENKEI wheel too. Very good budget brand of wheel.

Surok 11-08-2012 03:05 AM

yeah NT03M+ is one of my fave wheels just not sure of its brake clearance with BBK so ill just stick to rpf1

thanks for the link to 86drift saved 15 bucks lol

Iim not going to get the fakes. I like that old school style but I would be inclined to get something that suits the modern looks of the car indeed.

BUT look at the look of real BBS on 86. FANTASTIC look me reckons!
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18050

And this is the exact look I want to get (but the inside of the wheel is black)

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13690

ZZT86 11-08-2012 04:22 AM

Both look great, especially the M8, but they're huge wheels !

Palmy 11-08-2012 04:54 AM

Good luck on Australian roads with fitment like that though!

I know, i know....they are huge indeed. 19 inch on this car looks quite ridiculous. They (for the black one) do it in 18 and 17 inch as well. Plus the BBS come in 18 as well.

19's look fine (big) but the width?? 10.5" = FMe ! It's amazing they even fit.

BBK?? Are you planning forced induction and alot of track racing?

Surok 11-10-2012 07:01 PM

a lot of track racing.

also, the essex sprint package saves weight, and the stock calipers cannot handle trackdays as the americans are finding out.

Nafe 11-11-2012 10:19 AM

Fair enough :)
Have you driven your 86 on track and found the brakes to be inadequate? Or just going from what you read on the net?
You may find that upgraded pads, fluid and maybe rotors might be more than sufficient
