How long does it take an FR-S to be built?
I see many of you guys waited for months after ordering to get your car in.
I'm not ordering mine, but the dealership found one (silver automatic, which is what I want) still in the "build" status. They are saying it should be in by the end of this month. This doesn't seem feasible?? The guy said they will try to get the shipping "expedited" by marking it status "A" - no clue what that means. |
There's been a silver AT sitting at the dealership near my house for at least 3 months. I find it crazy that you can't just walk in and drive out.

Down here they are so hard to find (any at all, manual or automatic).

I believe a couple days

Last time I was looking at the new car lot at my work. I noticed a Silver Automatic out in front that hasn't sold. Then for the longest time it disappear, but I see it now up on the main area near the front entrance.
We did get a black one roughly a few days ago that is a stick. When the first release the 86/FRS, we only got three of them. When two of them are already sold, we got an extra one that was sold that day it came in. Then for about 3 months, we didn't get another shipment of them until Mid July/Beginning of August. Then we usually get one or two of them, when the new car truck comes by. But that is usually every fifth new car truck comes by. More Prius/Hybrids than anything else we get at my work. |

It takes roughly 6-8 weeks from when it starts to be made, to when it arrives at the dealership. All depends on weather, delays, port, transportation, upgrades, etc. The long waits people are talking about is the wait before the car is sent for production. Some places have waiting lists, others don't get allottments regularly, etc.
There's a Silver FRS outside the dealer, and has been for a few weeks now. It's either someone's or up for sale. Unsure the status on it, I just see it sitting there daily. |

I know for a fact there's no waiting list at the dealership I'm dealing with. So realistically, should I get my hopes up for delivery this month? I understand anything could happen, but is it a possibility at least??

Mine took 3 weeks from order placement to arrival in the states. It took a further 3 weeks to be trucked and trained from California to west Virginia.

Our FR-S was Preferenced in the beginning of September with no ETA, but it was allocated first week of October (it was already off the boat) and we got it 4 days later.
That said, my FR-S's door label said it was built 9/12. So the one-month wait seems pretty accurate, and I live near a port too. I'm guessing that not all cars leaving Japan, or the factory, are on the "the system" right away because our FR-S was actually a surprise allocation for my d-ship. |
I presume the topic question, more or less activated a second question regarding wait-times after placing an order. But since i know the answer to the topic question, i'd be remiss if i didn't say that the average Toyota takes 14 hours to build. Infer, and extrapolate however you'd need to, and you'll likely hit a time frame close to that for the co-developed twins.

My dealer here in NC told me they get allocations based on the number of Scions they sell, so I'd imagine larger dealerships, selling large numbers of Scions, would get more FR'S vehicles coming in. Just my understanding.

The way I ordered mine it took them a month to place my order (Ordered it 4/26, it went to the factory 5/21), 3 months to put it into production (status went to "Build" in early September), took less than a week to be built (Probably 3 or 4 days), and over a month to be delivered and processed (just picked it up last week).

FRS Inventory build-up
HI- I'm new to the forum but very interested in acquiring an FR-S for fun and autocross. I see so many great reviews and impressions but have only been able to get my hands on 1 BRZ so far. The Scion dealers act like they've never heard of this car. Does anyone have any idea when the inventory buildup will reach a level where these cars are in decent supply in the U.S., and the markup in price will not be so prevalent? Maybe sometime this winter or will it be next spring? If I want to order one it looks like it will be about 8-10 weeks anyway. Thanks and I look forward to learning all about the car from this so far, very interesting forum, before I even drive one.
