What to do: My car was vandalized
 

So I parked my car in a safe spot and someone managed to key it super badly. Not only is it keyed on the door, quarter panel, door handle, and rear bumper, but it is so deep that basically half the car will have to be re-painted. The damage estimate was $900 and I will have to pay my deductible as well...blah.

Basically what do I do at this point? I filed a police report, but I'm just really upset about all of this. I hope whoever did this stays alive while the rest of their family dies in front of them. This is why I fucking hate people and our shitty society. AHHHHHHHH

It looks like it could be buffed out, but requires a lot of work.. Even than you would most likely have to repaint the panels if you can't buff most of it out.

Does your area have CCTV? You can get a video if so.

I would attempt to wetsand one of the areas to see if you can sand it out - it can't hurt, as you'll need a respray if it doesn't work.

WTF? Why? I just don't get it. Is it our cars? If it had been an 86 Accord parked in your spot, would they have keyed that? S*** Just makes no sense.

Sorry to hear about that! People suck!!! That is why I have a $0 deductible on comprehensive just for stupid $hit like this! It only costs about $10-$20 extra every 6 months to lower your deductible as comprehensive is cheap, collision is the expensive part. You may want to look into it after you get this fixed.

I haven't had this happen, but I did have someone hock a big lugie on my windshield over the weekend. It is now safely tucked away in my garage at night rather than on the street.

Sorry to hear. Boulder seems like a decent place, but every town will have its share of low-lifes. I honestly think vandalism should carry a prison sentence.

Bro hug to you man. If it happened to me, I would be furious obviously but I will leave it alone so that people stop vandalizing it until the hype for our cars die down. Seriously, nothing would mess you up worse than paying out of pocket to have it repainted only to have to experience the pain all over again later. There are people who would just take that as a challenge.

My brother owns a restaurant, high school kids would spray paint random fuggly graffiti on it for no damn reason, 3 times repaint they still do it. He then hired a local artist to put a good graffiti on it then the vandalism stopped. 3 years later he painted it it over and no kids bothered with it since.

Actually it didn't get vandalized in Boulder, it was in Idaho when I went out there to see my friend. That place is super shitty, I have quite a low opinion of both that state and Wyoming.

Nonetheless the claims adjuster is supposed to call me in the next day or so and I will figure out what to do from there. I'm just so frustrated at the moment - why would someone do this shit?

I know that feeling. It sucks. Over the course of a year and a half or so, someone would come by at night and egg my Evo for no reason. It happened maybe 4-5 times. Could never catch him as it was not consistent and in the middle of the night. I just don't understand why people would do something like this.

I had my black S2000 egged the day of new years. All over the car... Top, door handles, hood, windshield(multiple eggs here so I couldnt clean it). It was awful... I got back to the car around 11 PM, drove 25 miles home and stayed up washing the car in the cold til 2 AM. bull shit people around the world that fucks it up for everyone...

That's terrible. First week I had my FR-S, somebody spit something all over the back window and trunk while I was parked watching a movie at the Palms. It looked like soda and popcorn fragments or something. People hate when they see people coming up. That's one of the reasons I went out and got a license plate ASAP. At least then maybe a passer by won't think "Oh, brand new car? Look at this rich mother f%#@r"

Some people are just terrible people. If someone ever does this to my car, I just hope I'm lucky enough to catch them in the act.

any cameras nearby? had this happen to me at a car dealership,of all places!
filed a police report,and the investigating officer said "no cameras" couldn't f**king believe it! really could not do anything,except 'cook" 'em on bbb. had a body man wet sand it and touch it up! could not tell from new! .he was that good! cost me $165.00 and original estimate was for $3,000.00 to have it sprayed!

Wow sorry to see that man, that just sucks. That is still my biggest fear when parking this car in the public.

Blackvue Camera
 

Sorry to read of your misfortune. Somebody spit on the hood of my FR-S, no big deal compared to physical damage on your vehicle by vandals. I purchased a Blackvue 400HD video camera that has a parking mode, it has a motion sensor. I think this could be a useful tool in a case of vandalism or accident. Good Luck with your repair.

Who did you piss off? There weren't any cameras? or did it happen at home?

I remember when I used to frequent the clubrsx forums (I had an RSX) and some guy had his car 'super-keyed'. They keyed absolutely everything from the body panels, door handles, mirrors, rims, lights (front and back) and even the windows. There really wasn't one part of the car that was not keyed. When you own a nice sporty car, unfortunately there is going to be someone who is jealous or just wants to be an asshole because they can.

Have them total the car and get a new one.. Dead serious, I'm like that.. I mean they probably cant total it, but a strong buff should be able to do a decent job, but If that happened to my FRS I just absolutely lose all conections and feelings for the car.. its gone. I cant knowing my car was immaculate and to have that happen I'd kill the person who did this.

(video) very little can be done ,other than (in my incident) complain to consumer protection organizations (b.b.b. attorney general).police will take the position that even with clear video,someone can key your car,and NOT be seen clearly doing it because they can "shield" the key as the walk along the car! sucks to be sure,but that's it! for what it is! very disconcerting!..just sayin'

Sorry to hear that happened to your car. My advice is, if you attempt to fix it via wetsanding polishing, I would have it brought to a shop first, and have the pictures documented for an insurance claim just in case.

I'm not sure how the insurance works where you are, but over here, if there are signs that the person tried to fix it, that could cause more problems.

Some people are just d*ckheads. I bought an almost decade old base 3er BMW last year and within a month someone had kicked out part of my front bumper grill and once or twice it looked like chewing tobacco on the hood/lights, parking on the street in a decent neighborhood. Haters man.
