To get into Monticello, it isn't only SCDA or SCCA, there are lots of clubs who hold events at Monticello.
I will caution you though, IF you want to drift, I think the only tracks that do drift events in the area are Englishtown and Wall Speedway in Wall, NJ.
Monticello, Watkins, Pocono, Limerock will all toss you out if you are drifting the car.
Usually the way that a track event works (cause we've been instructing them for 10+ years as well as road racing them) is that you signup with a track group such as NASA, SCDA, SCCA, etc. You will, at least with NASA get an instructor assigned to you and will get about 1-2 hrs of classroom instruction as well as 2+ hrs of track time. This will teach you to be a better and faster driver on track as well as the street. If you listen to your instructor and absorb as much as you can, it can be a very fun and addicting hobby.
Check out http://nasane.com for events list for next year, that is where the AZP Crew has been instructing, racing and having fun for the past 10 years.
Advanced drivers can check out http://OpenTrackDayEvents.com where you get coaching from a pro race car driver and 8 hours of open track time. Joey G's days are amazingly fun.
Next season AZP will likely be running a Subaru/Toyota/Evo ONLY track day at NJMP, so look for that to pop up.
