And yet another Black headlight, different still

I really appreciate the detailed threads I used for removing the front bumper and opening the headlights. I also was impressed with Andrew at TRS for answering my questions and providing a quality and complete HID kit at a great value. Here's my progress so far...

http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/s...023_212456.jpgI did easily remove the corner lights without hurting the mounting tabs. I did this by pushing up on the metal clip to release the bottom of the light. then put a flat tip screw driver in behind the light and pushed out.

After removing the tape (green Scotch automotive tape) I did have some slight bleed in my paint line. I touched this up little by little with more tape and a very fine brush. I also used a Qtip in mineral spirits to make my lines nice. I have my wiring laid for the HIDs and hope to have finished pics tomorrow.

Thanks guys! I took my time yesterday and had distractiongs and didn't get the car back together like I wanted. Hopefully tonight!

man these look seksi, i just wish i had the patience to do this when i get my car, i would rather just purchase them already blacked out lol

Squishy86 10-25-2012 03:48 PM

Enjoy those retrofits, man! The best bang for your buck. I've talked to Andrew before and he's very helpful.

FastLane1000 10-25-2012 04:50 PM

Hopefully there will be some good quality stuff at SEMA. Most aftermarket headlights Ive seen are poor fit, finish and overall quality.

The black looks good, almost like something the factory would do on a mid-model refresh. However, it's a LOT of work.

Enjoy!

Those look great!

Looks great - almost exactly how I was planning on masking. Did you prime first then paint black or just use the black satin paint? I've also got the angel rings but still not 100% if I'll put them in...

Thanks! I had to make a call between what would be ideal look on the masking vs. what lines I was comfortable masking and have it come out right. if that makes sense. I like how another guy just left a chrome ring but I wasn't comfortable masking a circle like he did. also I thought i wanted a little more chrome. I like the halos if they look right and look factory. I was going for a "could have been factory" look. I would recommend some sort of trim around the morimoto projector and researching those projectors to get a good and perfect cutoff. I still have some glare which I'm dissappointed in but i thought they were gonna be perfect out of the box. I used VHT high temperature black satin wheel paint without primer just cause the surface was clean as mentioned in the DIY.

Looks really good, great job. It looks like a lot of work , but it paid off well!

SalM 10-27-2012 11:03 PM

Looks SICK! Now just another thought.. How about painting the part you left chrome in white?

staycrushing 10-27-2012 11:09 PM

looks great on a light colored car, on a black car i have a feeling they wouldnt look as good.. but on white its rad.

ImAwesome 10-28-2012 03:13 AM

the chrome you left suites the white car perfectly, nice work

Thanks again guys. I think the color contrast on the white car is what it needs. Like tinted windows, lighting, etc. Black and chrome is a tough combination to beat for sure but I think the headlights can definitely be improved upon for any color. What would look good on Black? Stock? would you change anything?
