SEMA 2011
Ok, so SEMA is fast approaching. Some years ago, Honda launched or rather previewed the Civic Si at the SEMA show, with an array of aftermarket companies and their offerings for the new model.
Any chance of Toyota pulling the same stunt? Some of the higher level aftermarket guys have to already have something in the works. The car is right now a few months away. Subaru should have a model at the LA auto show. Can we expect anything? |
^Not at SEMA, but about week or so before Press Release at TIAS (Nov 30), Toyota will show final ver w full spec to certain aftermarket companies. That includes some from UK tuning shop & US tuning shop too

In short, Nope.
I can't believe that Toyota or Subaru would let an aftermarket company steal all of their marketing thunder. |
^What are you talking bout? Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Ford & most of major auto company do it

Will they? No, but it wouldn't be completely outlandish for Toyota to use SEMA as a promotional tool...they had the LF-A out there two years ago and the IS-F there the year before that (I think that's when they were--all the shows run together) both before their official release dates. They might have the FT-86II on display though.

Thanks guys, sounds reasonable to me for a mid to late 2012 release. The concept debuted at New York last year so I can see that happening but the sooner the better if they make it at Detroit.

I think most of Toyota's efforts at SEMA this year will be focused on Lexus, oddly. That 600+ hp Lexus LS thats been cited the past month, the upcoming Lexus GS-F Sport, and CT-F Sport are all poised to make an appearance.

i could totally see companies getting the FR-S for SEMA.
i went to Tokyo Auto Salon in 2008 and companies (HKS, Greddy, etc.) had modified GT-R's before they hit the market. the new camaro saw similar treatment for SEMA. im pretty sure scion would not miss the opportunity. |

Close to zero percent chance of the FR-S getting showed at SEMA.
For one, it's not as high profile as TAS. Second, the production version needs to get unveiled first. They're not going to let the global marketing thunder be eclipsed by a smaller scale aftermarket event. Suppose automakers can make body kits based off the concept version like the FR-S Fiveaxis or whatever, but that costs a lot of money to make one-off versions, so that's unlikely as well. |

I finally got to see it in person! I knew it was small, but surprised how small it looks in person. Like a 3/4 Gen Coupe size, which I like. Sema was a good show this year. Interesting also to see Honda had what looked like a production supercharged CR-Z engine in their booth.

yeah i am thinking the size is what a 2+2 s2000 would be like. especially with the low nose.

True. The production version won't look anything like that. But I think Five Axis has seen the hype around this car, and they are planning on creating body kits for it. I'm hoping for a kit to drop that hood even lower which should be possible from the pictures they have of the hood open at the Nurembergring race.
