Longest FRS/BRZ wait time in Canada?

Hey folks - Well I know that there are a tonne of people still currently waiting for their orders.

As I've been waiting for 109 days now (Ordered July 5) and I've been seriously considering cancelling this week I thought it would be interesting to see how long others have been waiting. It has been a tedious first new car experience to say the least. I'm sure others feel the same anxiety about waiting.

Please list the following:

Date Ordered:
Date Promised:
Total days since order: (use http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html to find out)

So I'll start.

Date Ordered: July 5, 2012
Date Promised: Aug 31, 2012 :slap:
Total days since order: 109 days - and no ETA still (Just "At Port")

mashal 10-21-2012 12:25 AM

Yeah look around at other dealerships, don't expect to sit on your ass and get a car.
The dealers lie like no tomorrow , they will sell cars to their buddies before they get to you .

Well you know my status.

Date Ordered: July 7, 2012
Date Promised: My salesman joking with another salesman, saying "Oh, by Christmas!"
Total days since order: 106 days. If you include today since it's after midnight, 107. Still not built as far as I'm aware, and whaddya know, now it's expected by Christmas.

I imagine this is likely. Too bad they'd never admit it and I could never prove it, being an outsider. In my case, even if it was true, as much as I'd want to cancel my order on principal, they'd just sell it to the next guy within a couple hours, so there would really be no point. I would gain nothing and they would lose nothing.

Date Ordered: May 3 2012
Date Promised:n/a (probably before xmas)
Total days since order:171days

mine is 'in production' according to the dealer's data system. did they give you the vin to check the status?
i only have a subaru order number, haven't figure out how to track it.

Ti-REX 10-21-2012 01:43 PM

I ordered on August 21... clearly not as long as some of you guys.

Total Days Since Order: 62

And wow the dealers and their lies! First I was told beginning of Oct, then I got a call saying its going to be here early mid Sept... Then I couldnt get a hold of the salesman so I went in and found him he said 1st week of Oct for sure... Then I came in and he said Christmas because I chose Asphalt (appearantly one of the harder colours to get?) then he said if i get black it will be faster, then he said nevermind, and now he said he traded my asphalt order with an ultramarine and "it will be here November 100%" "umm 100% eh?" "Yes 100% sure"...

I dont mind the wait... Just prefer 1 story rather than being lied to.

Oh and I tried going to other dealerships, even called some up north... all of their responses were "Sure I can get you a MT FRS, if you order today it should be here in March"

MiniGuy 10-21-2012 06:02 PM

I ordered on July 2nd and just picked my BRZ on Tuesday October 16th. - Vancouver.

funcheung 10-21-2012 11:11 PM

wait for BRZ is much longer. Friend ordered a BRZ in Sept, ETA is Feb/March 2013

grgonium 10-21-2012 11:49 PM

If the dealer doesn't know anything yet, don't expect to get the car in a week or two. From what I understand, they should be able to make a very respectable guess by the time it gets to port in BC. :(

Which is then 10 days out of port, and another 10 on train/truck to dealer?

Thats what it seems like from what others have said.

My dealer told me 6-8 weeks average from factory to Ontario dealers. I'm not sure what the breakdown is in terms of time on boat, port processing, rail to Ontario, sorted in Toronto (I guess they process something in Ontario. Apparently they will do the stereo upgrades there as well, if applicable), delivery truck to dealer, and dealer processing.

I suppose I'm just jaded having waited so long with no information. You might be right.

wparsons 10-22-2012 08:48 PM

I either really lucked out, or some dealers are WAY worse than others for wait times.

Date Ordered: June 27th or 28th 2012
Date Promised: August 24th 2012
Date Delivered: July 16th 2012
Total days since order: 19 days

I ordered the SWP 6MT BRZ from Scarboro Subaru.
So upset, I feel like when I complained to the manager about the wait time that they made me wait even longer lol. :(

Burrcold 10-22-2012 10:14 PM

I posted this question in another topic, but does anyone know if the dealership is bound to the amount they offered on a trade-in? This is assuming the car takes a long time to come in (6+ months) and assuming the trade-in has normal wear and tear, km's, etc.

I believe as long as its in black and white...there should be a clause on it stating that you will receive the amount they quoted you on base on the condition they appraised at with normal wear and tear until the day you trade it in for the beautiful fr-s. But don't completely take my word for it as im a economic student and not a harvard law blondie

I asked my dealer about it and was told they would fight for me to keep the value at what they said initially, even if it is 6 months after initially signing. I'd recommend just asking your dealer the same question.

I remember in the early parts of the ETA lies the salesmen told me that the white brz is usually at the end of the production line cause in japan they dont really lile white as much so itll take longer. El oh el.

We have always worked on a "next in line " policy, thats just the fair way to do things, that being said it still is frustrating, so i sympathize. The one issue is some lower volume dealers have to wait for their next order which means you might be waiting in Que for some time before they are able to order your car .... thus the longer wait times.

You should tell them that the process is stupid and unfair in combination with the OMVIC policy that says one dealer can't take business away from other dealers.

Orders should be channeled through head office and so the dealer you buy from shouldn't matter. Those who order first should get their car first.

Now if there are dealers who have cars, and other dealers who have waiting customers with signed contracts, those customers are shit out of luck.

Hey Corey I have a question if you don't mind..

so does the dealer actually have a clue about when customers car should really be arriving?

I called last weekend and my sales guy said my car was actually in production. originally I was told december but now there saying possibly November.

are they just feeding it to me or do they actually have a realistic idea for when it should arrive?

does the dealer have some type of tracking programs that provides them updates as to "in production" "at port" "shipped" ect.?

thanks

RandomFRSguy 10-23-2012 05:18 PM

Dealers do have a tracking system, they can see where cars are, and if they are coming. They don't have ETA's so giving an exact date is something they shouldn't be doing. Also, if you bought accessories for your vehicle they are installed "at port" theres no timeline on how long that takes, they may have a long list of cars and accessories to install or no cars so when yours arrives it could get installed right away or it could be waiting in line for its accessories.
( I'm refering to accessories like the premium audio system)

I know this cuz I work at a dealership in Canada so feel free to PM me or msg me if you have any questions.

grgonium 10-23-2012 06:40 PM

Dealer got allotment sept 12. Got my VIN today, expected delivery Nov 11.

Countdown begins! 5 months total time.

Spicer66 10-23-2012 09:49 PM

Just curious, can dealers look up what kind of allotment other dealers get, or any info at all on cars that are slated to end up at another dealership?

Walla Walla 10-23-2012 10:35 PM

I don't think i will break a record...
date bought : October 2
date arrived : October 18
date delivered : tomorrow 4pm... laze salesman who took time to prepare my car and install equipment....

car was ordered at first in june, and they never sold it before i came in :)

in quebec province yes... from what the salesman told me, every dealer can order 1 a month, so they always order one even if not sold, and they trade it when they arrive.

joergasm 10-24-2012 11:45 AM

Damn I posted a lot in this thread. But yay! I just woke up to the best and worst call

Best=my dealer just called me telling me that my baby just arrived at port! And it will be coming this Friday!

Worst=I need another paycheck to help me out with stuff =(

Good luck to everyone with your wait times!

delsol97 10-24-2012 01:07 PM

LOL at the Canadian alottment for FRS increasing in November.

Great time to be delivering rwd sports cars when the country is covered in snow.

Just like the Veloster all over again... It'll be interesting to see what demand is like next year.

Midnightuner 10-24-2012 02:31 PM

I was lucky I walked in for info on it and walked out with the car 5 days later

Date Promised: Oct 2012
Total days since order: 114 days (Dealer now says "Jan to Feb")

Ordered an SSM BRZ 6MT from Trento (now Subaru of Maple). Figured I'd get the car sooner as I thought SSM wouldn't be high in demand as WRB or SWP. Boy was I wrong.

Hey, welcome to the July 7th club. My FR-S isn't in yet either.

Generally the way they do it is if a car is in less demand they won't make it in equal numbers as the rest. Always order the one you really want! :)
