Awesome find!

Leeky 10-20-2011 12:32 PM

wow look at how low the engine looks under the bonnet at the end of the video! :)

Bonnet looks quite beefy..... i can see where a lot of weight can be shed from this car straight away :)

damn look how low that engine sits,

you can fit a stupidly large and thick strut bar across the engine bay and still have room for nooky.

and in picture 2, it looks like those fender vents might vent air pressure from the engine rather than the wheel well as previously thought. Does this mean functional fender vents? Not sure, but things are looking up.

Ahh man can't wait to take this car on my local race track. Really nice find with the engine view. Man I want this thing so badly.

That's a lot of cars.

RRnold 10-20-2011 02:15 PM

Wow, that is low! That strut tower brace looks like a good 6" from the top of the fender.

suprachica79 10-20-2011 02:54 PM

Looks like alot of room in that engine bay fella's, I'm likin' it!

Andy 10-20-2011 03:51 PM

At the beginning, when its in the garage, does it look to anyone else that the boot is open (hard to see though, so I'm not sure) doesn't look like a hatchback to me...

Rampant 10-20-2011 03:59 PM

Nice find, thanks.
Looks a bit bigger than the TT it was racing next to, which is what I was hoping for.

You can see the wing in front of people walking around in the back, so it's not open (or the people would be blocked by the trunk, not the wing).

And it's not a hatchback.

Andy 10-20-2011 04:15 PM

yeah, I realised that after I woke up and put it into 1080 fullscreen... I'm a muppet at times!

ichitaka05 10-20-2011 04:57 PM

Thanks ft86cbx!

Alternator is right next to the dip stick... but on FB20 engine both of em are not that close to each other. FB20's alternator is located front of TB... but on this one, it's located on PS should be... so more like this pic:

Also TB can been see lil bit along w intake manifold...

Still shaping up nicely to be my next car. December can't come soon enough.

look at all that space to fit a supercharger... :party0030:

serialk11r 10-20-2011 07:28 PM

The alternator location looks the same as in the shiny chromed out one in the clear model.

davey90 10-20-2011 09:47 PM

Nice!after they got the FT86 back into the garage, the guy was searching for the bonnet clip. For a sec I thought "YES! THEY ARE TAKING THE WRAPPING OFF!" then you see the guy flip the bonnet open, i was like "oh he was looking for the bonnet clips..."

so many Renault Clios on the track.

Someone scroll to 8:31 and do a screen capture. You can clearly see the *trunk* was opened with the wing flips towards the camera. It is clearly shown that this car has a trunk..... :mad0260:

Lot of thanks for the vid funny thing is just last week I posted (somewere) that all the pics ive seen at the Nurburgring there hasent been any of the most important thing, under the bonnet and today theres a vid peeeking at it.

has anybody mentioned how friggin thick that tower strut bar is??? holy crap!

akkxn 10-21-2011 10:53 AM

I'm guessing the thicker the bar, the less body roll?

Nothing to do with it. That bar also looks welded to the strut tower, which wouldn't make it to production like that, but it may just be welded to a mounting bracket. Hard to tell though.

It ties the strut towers together and, in theory, transfers loads from one to the other and increases chassis rigidity.

I've never noticed a difference with or without one. We use one on the race car mostly to hold SS oil lines and wiring.

Ya i cant tell either, i tried to find some indication of welds along the strut mounts. All i can see are the bolts from the struts/coilovers.

You know i couldnt tell any difference at all with a strut bar on a NA miata, DA integra, and EK civic. but i felt a world of difference on a S14, FC3S, and 2g eclipse. i Guess it really depends on the car.

ForReal-Someday 10-21-2011 02:08 PM

I can see what you are talking about WoW with the functional hood vents. But to me it looks like that strut bar attaches to the front of the shock tower. That would be the bolts that we are seeing at the front of the shock tower. However, that would mean that the top of the shock tower is underneath that piece of boxed in bodywork. That would be terrible for anyone hoping to put adjustable dampers on this car, as you would have to take off the fenders everytime.

But from what I'm seeing there's no reason you couldn't lop those big blocks off, and drop the hood and front fenders 2 inches with some kind of aftermarket kit. Maybe one that makes it look like the concept Mk I.

Of course I could be completely wrong and looking at this picture all cross eyed.:iono:

looked again. You can see the three bolts sticking out the top of the strut tower. But sill, it doesn't look like that big boxy hunk of metal on top of the fender is a stressed member. I'd say lose it and make this thing low.

That's weak! From the C&D article that Matador posted, they call it "notchback". Now the test is seeing if 4 rims w/race rubber, some tools and a floor jack will fit...

Jordo! 10-21-2011 03:02 PM

Remove flex from front = bias towards understeer

Remove flex from the rear = bias towards oversteer

Playing with both you can get a car fairly neutral, or biased as you prefer. Of course, springs, shocks, and sway bars all interact with chassis bracing too and tweak handling one way or the other.

Most road cars come from the factory biased towards understeer (plow forward in a stright line when trying to turn), which is presumed to be "safer" in an emergency than oversteer (spin out, nose first).

Assuming that bar is pretty stiff, it's presumably there to keep the FT-86 on the track rather than in the fence. Be interesting to see what kind of bracing is in the rear and how stiff the F and R stock sway bars are.

Hopefully stiff enough that I don't have to worry about switching them out for aftermarket parts in a hurry.
