Toyota Sprinter

So the old ae86 was called this in oz, what you think the chances are that it will be called this again?

I am hoping its high cause i just bought the domain - WWW.Toyotasprinter.com and the .com.au is still ava (cost too much to buy if it won't be called this)

Thoughts?

farugah 10-18-2011 07:37 PM

I dont think its likely but all the best ;)

Slide 10-18-2011 07:46 PM

Why not i think its more likely then celica...

Considering this would be a 2nd gen sprinter?

Cause it wasnt called a corolla sprinter(like the other model sprinters)

Because I think Toyota is trying to start fresh, despite what we all may think about the old AE86 references, that is what I believe they are just references, I also think that most of the 86 talk is to get hype, however I would love to be proven wrong. This is an entirely new car - taking inspiration from the 86 - IMO and I think they will give it a new name.
Obviously all the above is complete speculation and opinion.

I agree with farugah, though who knows; could be wrong. Hoping in your case that it is, would make a fair bit out of that :)

Toyota can call it whatever they like, it's still a Subaru.

Type[R]+ 10-20-2011 02:03 AM

If it was to be called that, Toyota would already have that domain.

and Subaru is Toyota lol!

Slide 10-28-2011 06:03 PM

Guess so.

It's all a wait and see game:(

PuGZoR 10-28-2011 07:32 PM

I reckon it's more likely to be called the Celica here. Sure the last gen was a bit of fail but there was a huge family before that which was full of win.

It'd be cool to have an original name though, I must admit. Toyota Phoenix anyone? (mythical creature that rises from the ashes seems to be quite a decent analogy for this car)

FT-86GOD 10-30-2011 04:25 PM

Sprinter for the win......

peanut 11-01-2011 10:11 PM

i just hope its not called the Celica :)

Andy 11-01-2011 10:29 PM

Only name I was is "FT-86" or my ideal name "2000GT" Back to the proper classic Toyota Name!!

Slide 11-02-2011 01:55 AM

Nah 2000GT can not be used again!!!

FT means feature Toyota so that cant be used....

86 is fine!

Sprinter is better :P

Andy 11-02-2011 07:52 PM

I'm sorry, but Sprinter sucks, its not a good image for a car of this type, it just doesn't give off any excitement for the car..

There were four generations of Sprinter release before the AE86 came out. Likewise, there were another three generations after that. The Takumi tax variety was not the only one.

In Australia I'd be doubtful of the name Sprinter. Celica certainly would have more recognition with Australian public, though not necessarily in a good way (FWD hairdressers car isn't it?)

I'd love a new RWD Celica (I'm an 1976 RA23 Celica owner here) but I think this beast will have an entirely new name.

It really is a combination of a variety of Toyota sports car influences - handling AE86, looks 2000GT, engine 2.0L synonymous with Celica. Something to bring back Toyota from their depths of Boredom will need to be bigger than one model, eg not just a "new celica/sprinter/supra/whatever"

that was funny i thought i was going to be forwarded on the old club4ag forum cuz, before club4ag it was called ae86club back in the mid to late 90's lol

Semantics really... Supra's started as the Celica Supra, the Skyline GT-R is now just GT-R, MR-2 went to MR-S, etc...

Not saying they were all called Sprinter exclusively, just that there have been plenty of cars carrying the Sprinter name since the AE86 - they weren't called Sprinter by accident. So not sure you can call it the second generation.

Inspired by, re-imagining of, sure. But this car is far from second generation.
