Not digging it... but not hating it either

kaivo 10-18-2011 01:19 AM

ft86 front bumper :)

RRnold 10-18-2011 01:30 AM

Damn, Toyota is playing out the triangle shaped turnsignals.

cyde01 10-18-2011 03:03 AM

Looks a lot better than the regular prius! Crz looks better though.

Kage 10-18-2011 03:50 AM

uhh...isn't the "C" supposed to be for coupe...that's definitely not a coupe...

Matador 10-18-2011 08:14 AM

No, it's for compact.

I think that's actually pretty tight. Not feeling the rear lights though. And I miss the headlight position from the concept.

Sea1monkey2 10-18-2011 08:27 AM

NOOOOOOOOOOOO! This wreaks of the new hyundai lineup. Please don't tell me that we're going into a trend a hellasoft!

keiri 10-18-2011 09:34 AM

I was planning on buying my better half a '12 Yaris SE but if this comes out around the time I plan to buy with a similar price (~17.5 to 18k) with better fuel economy I may be swayed towards purchasing a Prius C.

Neutral_Eyes 10-18-2011 09:16 PM

How much longer until it becomes its own eco-wanking brand like they did with Lexus and Scion?

Ryuu0u 10-19-2011 12:04 AM

I've always wanted to VIP a Prius.

LOL^^

Are you going to put curtains in the car too?! Lol

I read from the toyota-usa site that the 2012 prius was going to get 87mpge. Whatever that "e" in MPG"e" means. Lol

Still is a lot.

serialk11r 10-19-2011 04:10 AM

Prius is a plug in hybrid now isn't it? mpge sounds like mpg equivalent....probably for electric drive only.

3 years at max I'd guess...

Prius C

That doesn’t mean the Aqua/Prius C will be no fun to drive. On the contrary, Toyota officials say that the car features a low center of gravity and sport-tuned suspension, which will make it one of the best-handling compact cars around. We’ll take their word for it now, but we’ll see for sure when the car comes to the U.S. next year.

looks like the FT philosophy has reignited the whole of toyota, even in a prius! this car looks interesting. i may look into it as a daily driver.

Anybody here drive a Prius? How slow is it really? The electric motor should generate pretty good tq, but does the feeling of tq/acceleration taper off real quick? the 0-60 of the prius is abysmal (from an enthusiast's perspective), so i was hoping some of you guys here have experience in one and can tell it like it is. for DD duty im sure it's fine, but how is the car on the highway merging, on-ramps, passing, etc. is the car ridiculously slow? or is it actually quite peppy due to the electric motor's tq?

serialk11r 12-06-2011 03:24 PM

I sat in one during a family trip, it's honestly pretty slow, but it's obviously adequate for transportation usage. In Asia and Europe people get by with much less power.

cool but i still wouldnt buy one

madfast 12-06-2011 04:26 PM

But is it slow because people drive it slow or because the car is actually that damn slow? it's very hard to find any review of the car where they talk about the actual performance of the car, instead of how great mpg they can get. and i ask only because i will never buy a "dangerously" slow car. you know what i mean, people doing kamikaze maneuvers just to pass you, or the old "what? you want to merge ahead of me? hell no!"

brrneon 12-09-2011 09:20 AM

They are not really that bad, they are slow but not dangerously slow. I have an 07 and I don't have trouble when I need to pass a car. But I wouldn't try to pass more than 1 at a time on a two lane road. On the highway I get about 45mpg when driving at 80 mph, but if you drop down to 60 mph I get about 55 mpg.

They do have their cons like when I floor it, the engine takes about a second to respond, so you have to take that into account when passing. Also the seats are not really comfortable to me ( I'm 200lbs) and its a boring ride.

The car will hit 110 if you really want to.

Longhorn248 12-09-2011 10:58 AM

I like those headlights. If it's like all the other Prius models then it probably has a 0-60 of like 30 seconds right?

thanks! how about on ramps and such? do you ever feel it doesnt have enough power to confidently merge into fast moving traffic?

brrneon 12-09-2011 02:02 PM

no, unless you are trying to merge from a dead stop into 80 mph traffic, most on ramps have more then enough room.

It has a CVT type transmission so it stays in its peak power when accelerating. There is also no chance of making it any faster then it already is, there is an article online somewhere where a guy added a turbo and his 1/4 stayed the same but his mpg increased.
http://autospeed.com/cms/title_The-S...8/article.html

I'm at 110K miles and the only problem I've had is the auto doorlocks stoped working.

serialk11r 12-09-2011 02:16 PM

hehehe the HSD actually has discrete gear ratios, except the motor gives variable assist to make it feel like the power is constant. Sorta weird that they'd sacrifice a bit of acceleration (on a car that's considered really slow) for "smoothness".

And yes, if you add a turbo you'll have trouble spooling because under full throttle instead of having about 2 bar absolute pressure in the exhaust to work with you only get like 1.3 due to the late intake valve closure. It has less exhaust gas volume than a typical 1L engine. mpg increase is almost expected because the 13.0 CR or whatever is actually very conservative when the intake duration is taken into account, the turbo would increase the pressure ratio a bit.

CSSM 12-09-2011 02:26 PM

I wish they would have made it look more like the concept, with the lights coming off the windshield

ZetaVI 12-10-2011 05:42 PM

Change the name, make it look exactly like the concept, and turn into a hot hatch they might actually have something.

ahausheer 01-10-2012 07:46 PM

Prius C - 2500 lbs?!?!?

A recent article on www.caranddriver.com says the Prius C will weight 2,500 lbs and achieve 50 mpg average. Of course this could be an error, but what the F? 2,500 lbs, makes me think the FT-86 is heavy.

Dimman 01-10-2012 07:51 PM

Is this the next-gen 'normal' Prius, or a new smaller entry-level Prius? Like a Yaris with HSD?

CSSM 01-10-2012 07:52 PM

Makes a little sense, its a small cheap Prius:

ahausheer 01-10-2012 07:57 PM

This is basically the Yaris hybrid for America, a smaller and different model than the Prius. How do they keep the weight so low? The Ft-86 is also really small and doesn't have a heavy battery but it and nearly everything else weight more.

serialk11r 01-11-2012 01:10 AM

FRS is a sports car, it needs a stronger chassis for good dynamics while a car like the Yaris is allowed to "flop around" ;)

Also Prius engines are specifically made lightweight with reduced strength components for friction reduction, and then rev limited to protect the engine. Not a big source of weight, but apply that philosophy to the whole car and you lose a bit of weight.

Homemade WRX 01-11-2012 09:15 AM

small engine, fwd, probably a simple I-beam rear suspension, smaller/less stiff chassis, etc...it does carry the hydrbid system though.

Toyota Prius C @ Dealers now

went into our local Toyota dealer to check out the Scion IQ in person yesterday, didn't even make it past the window sticker, setting next to it was a Toyota Prius C..., took it our for a test drive, what an awesome little car, its like driving a video game with all the computer controls and Entune™, 50MPG...we were at the dealer for a little over an hour, they sold 3 of them and will not see anymore for a while.....they will sell a ton of these cars if toyota can keep up.. @ $21K, $25K loaded with Entune™, 16" alloys, leather, sunroof etc...

Wife want to trade in her 2010 4runner trail on one NOW

IMO they look awesome !

ZetaVI 03-08-2012 04:39 PM

Certainly looks like an improvement but I still am not very fond of it.

serialk11r 03-08-2012 04:56 PM

That is actually pretty cute, but they really have to get rid of that whacko front design, it is just gross.

Dark 03-08-2012 04:56 PM

Give me MT, I might be interested in. :) 53mpg is impressive.

lol, sane people would not want to manually control a torque splitting transmission with 2 electric motors. But I think it would be pretty amusing to take a Toyota HSD equipped car and try to control it manually.

M-17 03-08-2012 05:35 PM

Its still a prius so its a H-E-L-L-NO go for me. But is would be nice to have 50+ mpg.

tranzformer 03-08-2012 05:40 PM

Is it bad that I like the Hyundai concept better?

LMAO....
I could never drive one either, but for the wife unit, H-E-L-L-yes...she coast around in her big ol 4runner trail edition with lockers/Kdss/crawl control/and all the other crap she will never use, keeps in ECO mode while coasting away from lights and stop signs to better fuel economy, documenting every tank.
Drives me nuckin futz !! she averages 22mpg in the thing while pissing off motorist behind her.

I'm excited to get her this car if she likes it...:: hell the dealer is offering us 31.5K on our trade.

I think the same way you do...I personally couldn't own a prius as my car but I got one for the wifey and I must say, getting 500 miles/tank is mighty addicting.
