Berk Technology Dual Exit Muffler Delete - Review

I got my Berk Dual exit muffler delete today. Couldn't be happier with it all. I loved my original Berk Delete, but didn't really like the single exit for aesthetic reasons. So now with the dual exit I get the best of both worlds.

Quality of the part/construction/etc: This feels like a solid piece. The flange is very thick. All new hardware and a gasket is included, as are hanger locks to keep it from sliding off the hanger.

The tips look great. The welds look nice. Everything is simple but well done. No complaints whatsoever.

Installation/Fit: Install was a breeze. It took me 15 minutes and I'm currently one-armed (broken shoulder on other arm). The fit is fantastic. Everything lines up perfectly and it looks like OEM+ in there.

Sound/Performance: It sounds a lot like the single exit delete but it is a smidge louder. No drone at speed. Nice burble. Not too loud for daily driving IMO. Here's a stationary video. I will get a driving video up soon.

no, sorry. it weighs much less than stock. I would say it's around 12 lbs.

Watching thread. BUMP!

fmsida 10-16-2012 10:23 PM

Sounds awesome ...... price please?

JoeBoxer 10-16-2012 10:27 PM

How much?

jeebus 10-16-2012 10:48 PM

I'm pinging Berk to get them to chime in. I'm sort of a beta tester so I'd imagine my price isn't exactly retail.

Phaedrus29 10-16-2012 10:48 PM

Looks and sounds great. The tips (especially the left one) do look a bit small in the video...but maybe that's just the angle?

As others have mentioned, it would be great to get a spec on the weight and price.

Also, looking at the pipe it LOOKS like most of the exhaust would just come out of the driver-side tip? Maybe it doesn't matter, but isn't that true?

Can we expect this to add any power or is it just for sound and weight savings?

Captain Insano 10-16-2012 10:51 PM

Looks good and I would like the weight savings with that piece!

These tips are 3.5" vs 4" on the single exit delete. Personally, I think it looks better with the smaller tips. I'm not sure what tip size Berk would use for a production piece. As for flow, it appears pretty evenly distributed from my naked eye. I suppose time will tell if I see more carbon on one side than the other. I'm not concerned one way or another because it looks and sounds good to me. Power? I doubt there's any to be had from muffler removal. Maybe 1-2hp tops. I'm assuming my "soon-to-be-installed" Berk test pipe will gain noticeable power, but the muffler delete gives the car the sound it deserves.

Been waiting on this. Really want a price and availability!

ayau 10-16-2012 11:58 PM

not that it really matters, but wouldn't the rear left muffler sound louder than the rear right since it's closer to the flange?

I'm amazed that there is no drone at cruising speeds.. this really is the sort of no frills exhaust I want... especially for turbo later on.. I would prefer bigger tips tho!

Subscribing! Wanna know price and availability too!

WatchmaN 10-17-2012 01:32 PM

Why we alway's to ask for price and hp gain? I'm not talking just to this op but to everybody that starts a thread. It's the 2 most popular questions in a part thread. Please give us that at the beginning of the thread. If you don't have it then say it too.

Mageep 10-17-2012 02:41 PM

DO WANT

raz0rbladez909 10-17-2012 04:27 PM

Fuck, I just bought the single one too lol

chrisbfrs 10-17-2012 04:46 PM

I went to a local muffler shop and had them delete muffler and replace with a Y pipe just before axle and dual 1.75 inch pipes out. Sounds great, no drone at speed or on light acceleration. Nice burble at idle and smooth aggressive tone loaded. No raspy or back pressure sounds. Only cost $60. Fits perfect and looks nice! I am going to run larger diameter pipes though. Not sure if Ill go with 2 inch or larger.

ATL BRZ 10-17-2012 05:27 PM

Hoping this one will be priced under $400. I was a little shocked to hear tentative pricing of $399 for a similar piece.

Cheddar 10-17-2012 05:35 PM

This just gave me the idea to make a muffler delete pipe but keep my JDM tips....

Agreed!!!!

$399 is pricey for a pipe and two tips.

Axle back 'mufflers' can be had for a similar price.

Tylub 10-17-2012 06:44 PM

wait...i'm an exhaust noobie... isn't a muffler delete illegal? But this system sounds pretty darn good... really deep and thunderous if i may :bonk:

CBR600RR 10-17-2012 06:46 PM

Not necessarily illegal depending on the decibel output.

jeebus 10-18-2012 02:26 PM

A little observation: I noticed it's a tad boomy under load at 2k RPM. The single delete was not like this. I suspect it's some resonance caused by the added length of pipe. I'm thinking it will tone down a bit as some carbon coats the pipes. I'll keep you all posted.

Oh and FYI, nothing illegal about a muffler delete. If it's past the DB limit they can get ya, but you don't have to have ANY pipes after the cat if you don't want.

define boomy? like is it a thunderous BOOM and then slowly recedes?

thanks:happy0180:

CBR600RR 10-18-2012 02:42 PM

Can you get some in car driving videos? Maybe some drive by's too?

I loved the sound of this but i am afraid its a bit two loud. Afraid i wouldn't be able to live with it every day.

boomy as in, a little louder for no reason at a certain RPM that quiets down right after.

Oh and FYI, I spoke with Berk and they said they will be chiming in about pricing and availability shortly!

Does shortly mean hours, days, weeks? I was very close (days) to going to a local shop to have one made for me when this was posted. I'd really like to know if I can have this before a certain event coming up. Need to know if I should just go to local shop.

I called Berk, was told they'd call me back in an hour. Been 24 hours since, no answer.

ModBargains 10-18-2012 05:29 PM

Hey Guys,

We are an authorized direct dealer for Berk Technology and I think I can answer some of the questions for you.

As far as I know, they will be offering Rear Dual Muffler 2.5inch setup just like the one OP has for about $300-350 MSRP.

Now, BERK has protoyped a full catback system which is going to be on D-SPORT's FRS vehicle. So keep your eyes open around December and January for that. As far as pricing on the full catback exhaust, there is not definite price, but they are trying to keep it under $900.00 or even lower. Also, the piping will be a bit larger at 70mm due to the high compression engine.

Also, for anyone looking to get BERK's muffler delete track pipe or test pipe/ HFC setup, I'm offering free shipping for the month of October only as an promotion with BERK.

-Frank

soros151 10-18-2012 05:33 PM

Is there any evidence to indicate that 70mm is necessary? On N/A? I still want to see the results.

I've had a few calls for this same setup from several of you. I don't have pricing for you but I think we can swing this setup for about $300 in full stainless and all TIG'ed. It does ship in a decent size box and I'd estimate shipping at $30-40.

I hope someone puts up a video of this with your test pipe, no emissions here where I live.
