Interesting... what's the rule on Pirelli World Challenge series? stock engine? swap engine? chassis?
Anyone enlighten me, so I get somewhat of idea, please~ |
2.1.3.2: Grand Touring Sport (GTS)
The allowed body styles within this class are coupe, sedan and convertible. The cars permitted in GTS are typically marketed as “sports cars”, “sport-touring cars” or performance versions of “luxury” cars but at a lower permissible preparation level than GT. Forced induction is permitted on cars that come equipped with forced induction stock. Power output ranges from 300-400 hp. Weight varies depending on power output and tire size. Front-wheel, rear-wheel, and all-wheel drive configurations are permitted. Pirelli World Challenge stuff from page 35 to 78: http://www.sccaproracing.com/files/m...0PRR%20V06.pdf |

This car looks like it's going to be stuck N/A according to the GTS rules. However they are allowed to build the block, head etc.
The 86 will have to rely on its low CoG and power to weight. It will be interesting to see the team squeeze 300rwhp out of this in N/A trim. Lots of timing, race fuel, etc, are going to be part of the equation I'm sure. EDIT: since posting this I have been made aware (as everyone else has) that this car will be supercharged and supercharged by means of a modified TRD supercharger which, by process of elimination, deduction and other other sleuthy skills (and some not so sleuthy) we know that the TRD supercharger will be available to the public sometime in the near future. |
Awesome news, I will be watching this closely. Either they will have to make some big power NA or have TRD release a supercharger for the car to comply with the rules.
yesssss:popcorn::popcorn: |
Now, if we can just get them to initiate a Contingency program for CLub Racing, SCCA, Solo and any other form of Motorsport the general public wants to run these cars in we are in BIDNESS!

Someone needs to open the hood on this thing and take a snap!!!!!
|
Figured it would have brake duct cooling ?
|
SCCA World Challenger isn't a nationwide broadcast, is it? I wonder if i'd likely be able to ever watch a race.

SPEED will be transforming into FOX Sports One at the end of the year and will become a general sports network like ESPN and NBC Sports. Scion Racing will also be competing in Grand Am's Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Street Tuner (ST) division in 2013, so there will be plenty of opportunity to see the FR-S race wheel-to-wheel next season. |

:) I'm moving today and having cable setup and will have a DVR system for the first time too. Looking forward to it, since I have no time to watch TV any other time. What I find funny though is there are going to be a lot of people out there that will or don't know anything about their very successful tC programs and only see the FR-S as the car that brought Scion to the motorsports arena...tisk tisk. |
Wheel specs?

What I mean is that the car as it sits now is most likely not modified...yet. Popping the hood would likely reveal nothing as I'm sure they have not had time to build the engine up yet. |
Damn that car looks good. With TRD supplying the supercharger, looks like they may be getting set to release a kit for the FR-S/GT86.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adoB1lRBoRc"]SEMA Scion FRS Unveiling - YouTube[/ame] fast-forward to ~ 6:35 mark and at 6:45 he specifically says it will also be developed for the masses to use on the streets. |
If Stout Racing is to use the supercharger, according to SCCA World Challenge rules, it has to be a part available to the public. I think that is a good sign that TRD will release a supercharger kit. The car would need some sort of boost to be competitive in that class. Rumor is that Stout Racing is working with TRD to develop and test the supercharger system.
|
I think you can watch the races online.
|
We confirmed that there was no supercharger under the hood. It looks like it is still under development at this time.

Saw this last week:
http://www.imotortimes.com/articles/...ger-slated.htm As I have said in a couple other posts, available to the public does not necessarily mean reasonably priced. Great news nonetheless. |

To watch races streamed live go to http://www.world-challengetv.com/ They play on NBC sports network ~3 weeks-1 month after the race happens during the middle of the day. My friend, Travis Wolcott, races the #30 car (Volkswagen Jetta GLI) in the TC class. He lives in Boulder, CO. He had his first 5 professional races last season (2 weekends), and podiumed in 2 races (1 each weekend)! |
