Hello all,

WORK Emotion Kiwami - 18x9.5

Spec: 18x9.5 +30mm all around
Tire Spec: 235/40 front and 245/35 Rear

O.O That is some HUGE poke at the front....

Donno 10-12-2012 01:14 AM

Yeah I was quite surprised.

Nardi330 10-12-2012 01:17 AM

not unexpected for a +30. +38 would have been better.

it's hot and i'm sure after coilovers it will be super hot!!

Donno 10-12-2012 01:20 AM

Thanks Nardi330, yeah tweak the chamber and should lookd good :)

Donno 10-12-2012 01:34 AM

Lol, thats the plan. Apparently its illegal to fit 225 on a 9.5 inch rim. Tyre place refused to do it. I based my rim choice on this car btw.

Nardi330 10-12-2012 01:37 AM

it's probably too stretched. i guess it's for your good.

They're an awesome looking wheel but with that negative camber I'm guessing tyre wear will be a major issue, right ?

I'm tempted into changing the whole enchilada too but I'm afraid of what it will do the cars already perfect/Porsche like setup.

Providing the toe is set correctly it should be too much of an issue if tyres are swap every 3-6months. Or just take more corners.

ZZT86 10-12-2012 04:49 AM

So how much toe-in for the Kiwamis + coilovers ? Factory looks like about 0. Still reckon they won't last long.

JP 10-12-2012 05:21 AM

to get them to tuck you'll need a lot of camber, it chews through the inner edges quite quickly.

Gawd black rims on argento looks so good. Is that the flat or semi concave face?
Also, please repost in the Argento colour stick so we have a archive of your lovely car :happy0180:

I have 9.5 +38 matt black kiwami all round with 225/40/18s mounted, unfortunately no car to put them on, the tyres do look quite stretched, will try post pics on weekend

Being 9.5" wide, they are full concave.

Donno 10-12-2012 06:43 AM

Yeah full concave all round.

Giraffee, posted as requested.

Not trying to be a jerk, serious questions.
Why buy wheels that are 2.5 inches wider than stock then fit tyres only 0.3 inches wider than stock?
Is the car even drivable like that, what happens when you hit a bump?

oddworlds 10-12-2012 07:44 AM

Finally someone fitted the +30's...what did you do besides just fit the tires and wheels? I was under the impression guards would need to be rolled? This makes me happy :D

It looks better and allows you to stay legal (most states measure contact patch width). Yes. As long as they aren't shitty rims it has to be a major bump to do damage, just watch out for those steel cover plates.

I have just put the wheels on. no spacers etc.

Bumps are fine, not much difference to stock rims.

oddworlds 10-12-2012 08:09 AM

I'm convinced! Thanks heaps for the pics n such

Donno 10-12-2012 08:11 AM

@ Palmy, I also went this setup as per the photos of the blue FT86. I based my decision on that vehicle.

@ oddworlds, see what happens in relation to rolling guards when I lower it with coilovers.

Mind providing some sources for your information?
Not legal in NSW,

or South Australia

Also none of these states measure by contact patch.

I more worried about suspension travel and the wheels destroying the fenders.

So the suspension travel is less than the distance between the tyre and the fender?

oddworlds 10-12-2012 10:00 AM

Wow chill man

Palmy 10-12-2012 11:19 AM

lol Im just trolling bro!
The only reason you'd do this is because you think it looks cool, I just think its funny when people try to justify it with reasons other than thinking it looks cool.
I only jumped on nix's case cause saying things like "most states go by contact patch" when they dont just adds confusion.

I do seriously want to know if they'll damage the fenders though, just by the look of it I'd say a decent bump will trash them. What is the suspension travel on the stock setup?

oddworlds 10-12-2012 12:03 PM

Lol fair enough man, well I hope it ends up bring all good cause well yeah your right though, it looks cool so therefore I want it

IllusiveFRS 10-12-2012 02:13 PM

Definitely looks nice, I wouldn't want it cause I track the car, but congrats and hope it comes out like you expect! :D

70NYD 10-12-2012 08:35 PM

Thanks palmy I was just gonna say that
This looks good but too much poke

Ryan1JZ 10-12-2012 08:36 PM

looks great, but i also think it has too much poke... however it might be just the right offset for the aero kit....

nix 10-12-2012 09:06 PM

Yep I shouldn't have said most states my bad, didn't realise east coast has actual width limits. Contact patch centreline is used to measure track width btw.

DarrenDriven 10-12-2012 09:48 PM

Your wheel info has been posted to the topic for that wheel/spec combo:

So it seems most people light mexican fitment :(
I am one of the few who doesn't, it would seem.
I am guessing there are no cares given to the extra unsprung weight?

well these mexican fitment wheels are for street.

stock wheels (with upgrade tyres) are for track.

yes i do care about unsprung weight but extra 1-2kg each corner isn't too bad for street application.

_F-R-S_ 10-14-2012 07:25 PM

dam 235 on 9.5.. faakkkkkkkkkk

It’s not just the actual 1-2kg of extra weight I refer to, it’s the fact that it’s also getting pushed alot further out from the strut, which DOES affect handling.
If you like the look of Mexican fitment (and for those who don’t what I mean by that, it is wheels that stick out past the guards), then that’s fine, but I personally don’t like wheels sticking outside of the bodyline :)
I just think it looks untidy and bad.

lol personally i can't be bothered with the trouble for making crazy size wheels to fit the factory guard but i can understand why there are people who do this. there will always be people who consider form > function.

my spec kinda just filled out the guards and doesn't need stupid camber so I'm happy with my choice. a little extra unsprung weight yes but as i said these are street wheels.

I remember trying to tell someone that a while ago.

Meh, as I said man, some people will like the look of wheels hanging out pas the guard. If you do, that's fine. In my own opinion, it ruins the look of the car. You may not like the fitment/style of the wheels I will put on mine, and that's fine.
Another thing to keep in mind with mexican fitment is that it is illegal. Just something to be wary of.
Yours aren't quite as bad as this dudes being the +38, but the fronts will still probably poke out a bit.
And it isn't crazy or difficult to get different sizing either, FYI. Work wheels will do any of the size/offset combos they may in 5x100 for a small extra charge :)

looks to be the same spec as mine and i don't see the fronts poking out. the rear is slightly but the lower control arm will probably fix that.

ps. hot car Kov lol
