The worst looking wheels ever?

1 Attachment(s)
So yesterday when I was driving and saw yet another car with those wired wheels with knockoffs that stick out almost a foot from the wheels. I have been seen more and more of these lately. I don't know if it is just me or if anyone else think they are just hideous. I get scared that they are going to scratch my car if i get too close to the car. I really really hope no one in the fr-s/brz community will ever put these hideous things on their car. Has anyone notice any other ugly wheels?

They look like chariot racing wheels.:barf:

My bicycle had these but in 26", looked sick.

HellBoy 86 10-08-2012 09:25 AM

:slap:Lol now sum ass will go fit that on their 86 to try and make the rim look better:bonk:

If those are the worst looking wheels you've ever seen, you've been sheltered a bit. :D

I can think of quite a few off the top of my head but don't have pictures. May have to check later. Those wire spokes just look like lowrider style to me.

Worst wheel ever

I am an equal opportunity car nut.I like hot rods to lowriders to imports. I actually like lowrider wheels if they are on lowriders (classic only, pre 1970). I dont like them on anything made after 1970(well except for a few exceptions). Lowrider wheels have the knockoffs sunk in the wheels not like these things. These ugly things could hurt some one. like if someone was taking a right turn really near the curb and there happens to be someone on the sidewalk.

They look great on a Jaguar E-Type (XK-E) from 1961 to 1971 but not on a FR-S.

You haven't seen the ones he's talking about in action.. it seems to be restricted mostly to Texas thankfully. They literally stick out 9-12 inches from the face of the wheel and look incredibly stupid.

mickey177 10-08-2012 11:45 AM

Oh I didnt realized that it wasnt everywhere. But yes I do see them alot here in Texas. And they do look very stupid. I cant see the appeal.

A lot of people don't like those wheels. Vendors are allowed to have their own opinion too.

I demand pics then! No, I haven't seen anyone running those around here.
edit: Found pic?

That?

I agree it looks dumb, but I can't really see them harming pedestrians while they're driving unless that person was already in harm's way to begin with. Other vehicles, maybe. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they weren't outlawed eventually though.

moar edit:
Wow this opens up an entire new world of absurdity to me. Apparently they're called "swangas" and the "poke" is determined in increments of apes.

"Orangatang poke" lol. Am I the only one that finds it funny that orangutan is spelled incorrectly? Yeah, probably...

Well, when I get my car, I can tell you guys I'm definately slappin on some swangaz wit sum Siamang Gibbon poke.

mickey177 10-08-2012 12:45 PM

Yes thank you for finding the pics. But those are exactly what I am talking about. What an eyesore.

I can assure you, whether I am a vendor or not, my opinion of the OEM wheels would not change. I am a BRZ/FRS owner and enthusiast, just as much as I am a vendor. My car unfortunately came with the same wheels.

Anyway I was just messing around, no hard feelings.

And I'm allowed not to like his opinion. I think OEM wheels are sub-par, but nowhere near 'worst ever'.

Correct, but there's a difference between saying "I disagree" and making the type of comment you did.

DBacon1052 10-08-2012 01:31 PM

I definitely agree! Worst looking wheels ever

dsgerbc 10-08-2012 01:31 PM

And there's a different between saying "I don't like oem wheels" and calling them "worst ever". The latter is obviously an exaggeration, the purpose of which one can figure out for themselves. I did.

hippari 10-08-2012 01:33 PM

I'm the only one who loves 84's poking? lawl

I think of them as a time and place kind of wheel. Unfortunately, the case in Houston has the time and place as anytime any car. These on an old land boat are swell.

There are definitely wheels I hate more than those including blades, choppers and most other wheels that only come in 22+" and find themselves on b-body caprice's.

To me they look more at home on an ElDorado than the OEM wheels do on an FR-S. lol

These are Original Cadillac wire wheels from an Eldorado. This was my 1984 Fleetwood Brougham de'Elegance.

"look at the oil my cadillac spills." lol

xwd 10-08-2012 01:50 PM

Those wheels are fine and look great on the right vehicle. On a FR-S? No. But if you stuck some Volk wheels on that Caddy it would look just as bad. You want to see some horrible wheels just go to your local Pep Boys, or any tire shop really. It's amazing how horrible some wheels are these days.

My vote for worst rim choice on a vehicle. Hangover part II car.

JoeBoxer 10-08-2012 02:48 PM

Learn something new everyday, i had no idea about "swangas" but on the site i saw selling them it says FWD only which i thought was kinda odd. Most cars you would put these on are RWD i would think.

mickey177 10-08-2012 02:53 PM

Yeah I have seen these on everything. Dodge Interpid, Dodge Caliber and a lot of other American cars. Nothing advertised to the world that you are the local street corner drug dealer than these wheels.

The good thing about pokers is that people respect your poker space both on the road and in parking spots. However I would never put them on my vehicles since they are so hideous.

Jeff86 10-08-2012 05:52 PM

p-p-p-poker space p-p-poker space
