Got $450 to spend, what should I buy?

Car still has only 150 miles on it, so not ready to do any serious performance mods yet. Just want to do some cosmetic stuff for now...

here are my thoughts...

- Voodoo pearl shift knob
- Bluebat tail light overlays
- 5Axis spoiler + painting WR Blue
- some of those DC Sports tailpipe covers
- spacers for the wheels?

... or ...
a red dot sight for my rifle? :D

let me know if you have any good bang-for-the-buck mods to suggest...

save the money and use it for a tune once you hit 1000miles

CBR600RR 10-08-2012 01:07 AM

Save money for a tune.

Tune or if you want to stick to cosmetic:
interior and exterior led's
clear front corner lamps
lowering springs (pro kit or h tech)
shark fin antenna

Sorry for being a noob, but what exactly does a tune do?

What do you guys mean by a tune? like a performance chip? how would i go about doing this, buying one, and installing it ( if applicable )

Sorry haha as u can tell im a newbie willing to learn

JoeBoxer 10-08-2012 07:09 PM

There is no performance "chip" that will actually do anything on these cars, you get a cable and reflash the stock ecu to get more performance and even mpg in some cases. You can get the reflash and cable from Visconti or FA20Club.com

make an extra car payment or pay off your credit car debt (if you have any).

TyperRspec789 10-08-2012 10:41 PM

Save for a tune... OR save for a catback, it adds a lot of fun factor into the car. The Nvidia is like $580, so you're not that far off.

Reconsider the non-cosmetics, here's some bang for buck items.

+ OEM camber / crash bolt. Gives your front suspension some camber adjustment. Set some negative camber and enjoy more front grip in the corner. 10 bucks. Search forums, tons of info

+ gearbox fluid. If you have manual transmission, it will smooth out the notchiness present. I like Motul Gear 300. 3 bottles is 60 bucks

+ all season floor mats. Keep your interior clean and smelling mold free. 20 bucks at any big box chain stores

+ quick detailer and mf towels - keep in car and use to remove bugs and bird poop as soon as you see them. Keeps your paint looking good as long as possible. 20 bucks

+ exhaust tips. The stock tips look like crap. I think DC sells a set. 20 bucks

+ master cylinder brace - improves brake feel by reducing deflection in master cylinder when you press brake pedal. Grimmspeed is making one, price TBD

+ filtermag - sticks to side of oil filter to collect metal shavings in your oil and keep the from circulating in the engine. Could be snake oil, but I think it makes a difference 90 bucks

+ flossy knob - for 6MT. big size, textured, and high weight. Makes shifts feel better and dampens vibrations from the transmission $100

+ sound dampener - the car resonates a lot. Add some sound dampener to quiet the ride down. Downside is that you add some weight; like 15 lbs. trunk, doors, headliner are places to hit, 60 bucks for some dynamat

If you get all of this your looking at 380 + brace

All of these are fairly easy to install except the dampener

Pulley? Cheap, easy install.

Leonardo 10-09-2012 01:00 PM

Tint the windows. It adds privacy, cools the interior and looks great. Great 1'st Cosmetic mod!

The others suggestions on performance mods are good too.

cnk 10-09-2012 01:04 PM

My first mod to the car was to do a full detail on it and apply Opticoat to protect the paint. Then it went to get a full Xpel Ultimate treatment. If you do the detail job and OC application yourself, it's easily under $450. If not, OC application is usually around $300-350.

I am on the fence about the pulley... concerned about the dampening or lack thereof on the replacement part.

I guess I should have mentioned, the first two mods I did to the car were while it was still on the dealership lot, got window tints and clear bra installed.
I am trying not to be super OCD about the paint condition, this is going to be an everyday commuter car and will inevitably get scratched up and dirty, etc. I'm not the sort who washes the car every week. :scared0016:

Keep the great ideas coming!

cnk 10-09-2012 07:31 PM

Opticoat is meant for people like you who don't want to wash and wax the car on a routine basis. Just something to keep in mind.

Depends on what you want the most. Most ppl say tune but for all I know you wanna leave the engine stock. I love the five axis spoiler personally

chulooz 10-17-2012 11:44 AM

Id say save some more and get real performance tires for the warm weather months and a mild alighnment while youre at it; who doesnt enjoy having great tires?

Skip all the above and get an axelback for $50 more.. Night and day difference from stock and the tips will fill your cutouts. Come out to the east bay for proof. :burnrubber:
