2013 Subaru BRZ Limited
2019 BMW M2 Competition DCT | Build Thread

Introduction
Hey everyone, this build thread documents my STI tS project for my BRZ. What started as a simple OEM+ build when I first purchased the car has grown immensely into creating the zenki model that never made it here in the US. With the help and support of good friends, I am pleased to announce that the goal has been achieved! Modifications installed are listed with links to purchase for those interested.

you shouldn't wax a new car for 6 months from production.

Turbowned 10-07-2012 03:06 PM

You just had to one-up your brother, didn't you? LOL

Congrats!

Why? Factory paint is already completely cured and gassed out by the time it hits the boat.

ironchef 10-26-2012 07:40 PM

Is it just me or does that look like cardboard on the inside of that Cat?

Silverdub 10-26-2012 08:23 PM

Looks like but it aint!

Nice car and i bet u miss the gti, when i bought my frs i just could not let my vw go so i kept it.

DSOmegaX 10-26-2012 11:31 PM

Yeah I miss it. I don't regret the decision though of course haha. But I did sink a lot of time and money to tune it right.

EDIT: Image dump of previous pictures will go here.

DSOmegaX 03-01-2013 07:28 PM

Finally made updates to this thread. I was rear ended at a stop light recently. Minor cosmetic damage on the bumper cover, but destroyed the reinforcement bar inside.

http://s24.postimage.org/y9m1lgaph/IMG_6076_2.jpg

After that, decided to come back with a vengeance! Installed Stromung and Motiv exhaust components, FA20 tune, STI springs, and a few JPM Coachwork goodies. :burnrubber:

Then came back and started listing my mods and updating pics

Where did you order the blue engine cover?

Looks great!! Is that the park in Irvine?

Ahhh my twin is coming along quite nicely ;)

Engine cover is from japanparts.com. Search under SAA. I actually have the link in my mod list above. And yeap, it's the Great Park in Irvine :).

Duh!! Of course I saw the link!! I was just uhhhh, testing you...ya. ;)

Thanks!!!

How much of a drop from the STI springs? link had little info.

Beautiful build.

switchlanez 03-02-2013 02:17 AM

I just noticed your rear ended pic. :/ Hope the repairs are straightforward... would a replacement reinforcement bar just bolt in?

Beautiful build.

0.6" drop. Subtle, but noticeable. It makes the wheel gap uniform across the whole arch, which was what I was looking for. They're also designed to work with your stock struts. TRD springs are the same.

Yeah it was just a replacement of the reinforcement bar and bumper cover. Everything bolted on with no hassle. Paint match was near perfect too. Interestingly, my front bumper also had a mold issue where the ends of the bumper cover were protruding out from under the headlights, so I had that replaced by Subaru at the same time. The pics I took above were all post-repair.

Nice build, glad to hear you're okay from the accident.

Shopping around for a front / over pipe for 6AT. I see you have the Motiv combination. How did it fit? Their website says it's made of stainless steel, but do you know what type?

Fitment is perfect. I highly support Motiv as they make quality products and go above and beyond in terms of customer service. I'm local in Irvine so I got to know the guys and they are great. Their products are made from RathGibson 304SS.

Thanks. Reading great things about Motiv. I ended up buying a second hand new set of the Motiv HFC pipe and over pipe from @Scooby South

For me, there was a little less body flex during cornering. Car stays neutral balanced. However, this is when pushing the car towards its handling limits. I think I saw somewhere that you posted your car is a daily with no intentions to track it. IMO it wouldn't be worth the money to add the stabilizers in your case. You're better off using the money on a good set of springs, or even adding front/rear braces. You'll find more benefit from them.

I know haha. I wasn't a big fan of the ultramarine/galaxy blue, but the more I see it the better it looks.

Adding front/rear braces will improve the rigid of the car, but also will lose body
flex which will make daily drive a little bit more uncomfortable.
Is that correct? Thanks.

Ps. How about change the springs?
I know will lower the car which looks better.
Any benefit for daily driving? Thanks again.

Correct, braces act to stiffen the chassis of the car, so there will be increased NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) in the car. Springs are a good option to increase responsiveness and stability in the turns. It will also reduce the amount of body roll while cornering. This is a recommended upgrade even for a daily driver IMO. What you'll want to look for is a spring set with the same spring rate as OEM and can be matched to the OEM shocks in the car. This will not only maximize the longevity of your suspension, but will also retain the same ride quality as OEM. As far as I know, racecomp, swift, TRD, and STI springs are the closest match to this criteria.

outstanding pictures and really love the color. Thanks for sharing

One more from the photo shoot the previous night. My favorite! ;)

The STI goodies continue to roll in. Added the oil filler cap and shift knob to the car. I was actually quite surprised how heavy the knob was for an AT shifter.

http://s21.postimage.org/y3es1nruf/STI_Goodies.jpg

http://s7.postimage.org/w1hnq0rh7/STI_Shift_Knob.jpg

http://s9.postimage.org/41hvga3jj/STI_Oil_Filler.jpg

On that note, my interior is nearly complete. The next steps are:

1. Armrest: my 86 aichi japan unit is currently backordered so I'm not sure when I'll receive this, but it should be within then next week or so. It's the removable type that covers the entire center glovebox. I decided to go with this one over hinge designs like the OEM one because I feel its just easier and cleaner to just remove the armrest whenever there are drinks. Not liking the idea of having an armrest in an awkward open position, especially if there's a passenger.

2. Speaker Pads: going for JDM, of course, but I want to take it one step further. I will be purchasing the 6 piece set that has the silver ring trim pieces. I will then be shipping them over to JPM Coachworks to have them wrapped in alcantara. Thus, I get the best of both worlds. JDM design with beautiful alcantara material. It's too bad JPM can't just source the JDM units.

3. Alcantara Steering Wheel: speaking of JPM Coachworks, can't wait to purchase their steering wheel. Adds a touch of class AND will be comfortable and grippy in the hands. I can't get enough go how great their quality is.

4. Badge of Ownership: finally decided to get my badge of ownership from Subaru. I wanted to add something to the silver dashboard trim and this looks like the perfect item for a little personal mod. Decided to go simple and just get the main badge (my 1st Subaru! :thumb up:) and add the performance badge to it. I will be adding it to the passenger side of the trim.

http://s23.postimage.org/fesljysi3/2...Z_Interior.jpg

So those are the items I plan to be adding for sure. Other than that, still up in the air. I can complete my alcantara set by getting the handbrake boot but for some reason I like how the faux leather trim of the boot matches the color scheme of the soft plastic, but we shall see. Anyway, if you guys have got ideas or feedback for me, feel free to give them here!

DSOmegaX 03-19-2013 09:30 PM

More additions to the car. Finished up the LED lighting with the courtesy lights from HID Powerhouse. They are definitely a lot brighter than I thought it would be, but its definitely a nice addition. Adds some lighting to the cabin when the door is open, especially since I don't like using the dome light (something about having a bright LED light illuminating your whole face in the black night seems awkward to me).

http://s14.postimage.org/607grcnpt/Courtesy_Lights.jpg

Couldn't resist grabbing a shot of the boomerang while I was testing the lights out.

http://s14.postimage.org/ny1dmn1n5/DSC03863.jpg

Also finally received my 86 armrest from Aichi Japan. This is a specialty dealer option from Aichi Toyota. It is NOT OEM, but definitely has OEM quality. It's also my favorite design by far among all the armrests out there. Not a big fan of the actual OEM armrest because I feel like when you do have drinks you leave it in its upright position. Just looks weird, especially if there is a passenger.

Up next are my rear view camera, STI strut bar, and Grazio tinted side markers!

Kyle106 03-19-2013 09:47 PM

Great build so far. I will be getting my WRB Limited 6MT in about a weeks time and will be taking some inspiration from your posts  I especially like your badge of ownership idea... I think that will be a cool touch.

MikesFRS 03-19-2013 10:24 PM

Super clean ride.

DSOmegaX 03-20-2013 02:13 PM

Thanks to @MikesFRS for taking a quick video of my Stromung exhaust free reving. I am looking to get some more robust video of the exhaust as the car is running both in and outside of the cabin.

I love the OEM+ style you're going for, along with switchlanez and Beyer Subaru.
