Scion FR-S Vs. 20 Dodge Dart R/T

I have the FR-S but my first choice was going to be the Dart but they were not releasing the R/T the same time as the regular model so I just went next door to scion and bought the FR-S because my current car was in desperate need of a transmission and I didn't have time to wait. Any ideas on which one is better? And how about the soon to be released SRT4 version of it.

Accurate Race Shop 10-06-2012 05:00 PM

Also Dodge has said that the SRT4 version is going to have an AWD option.

Tim_Asphalt_FRS 10-06-2012 05:02 PM

The Dart is just a rebadged Alfa Romeo. Look up to see if people like the Alfa and you'll get your answer.

Right After writing this my friend called from Michigan and said he saw the SRT4 near the proving grounds and it has 325hp AWD and coil overs are standard according to the test driver that had it.

Zadkiel 10-06-2012 05:17 PM

You'll have more fun in the FR-S.

MORE POWAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://mmii.info/icons/TurtleSpartan...esNotEqual.gif More fun

Jedi1 10-06-2012 05:21 PM

And if it does come with all of what you mentioned as Standard equipment, it will be about the same price as a new STi. All of that go fast goodness doesn't fall out of the sky for free!

You are trying to compare Apples to Seagulls.

I agree the fr-s is more fun but the dart is faster and has better acceleration in the srt and the r/t I'm glad I went with the fr-s for the fun factor

They are talking 28k for the srt model and I have mostly chosen faster cars the fr-s is to keep the miles off of my Corvette so I can have my Corvette for fun and my fr-s for daily use

The R/T version is less horsepower and torque than the FR-S/BRZ (with .4L more displacement) and it weighs 400-500lbs more... so I'm not sure how it's faster. It's also FWD.

The SRT4 version sounds good on paper, it should be right around 300hp. It will compete against the new regular WRX in 2014 which will probably also be right around 285hp and has a well proven AWD system, and will almost cost about $28K.

Yeah I know they claim a faster acceleration and a slightly faster top speed probably done on a dyno not pavement but as a second car that can actually seat people it was a more promising choice for a daily car then the fr-s my Corvette is my sports car and I love my fr-s but in reality its no comparison not totally on performance but the over all is the dart a good choice? My wife is also looking for a daily car

Why not just get an Impreza then?

low trq 10-06-2012 09:40 PM

Why would you pick your second, more convenient car to be the FR-S. that just seems like a poor choice to me.

I was stuck with a bad transmission in my charger it was past warranty and not worth fixing Toyota was right next to the dodge dealer and I like a nice sporty car so I didn't want a grannymobile but I wanted better fad millage and a car I could beat on without worrying that I spent a lot on it

The 2.0-liter equipped Dart ran 17.3 seconds at 81.4 mph, and combined with its 0-60 mph time that would have earned it a spot in our list of slowest car tested during 2011. The 1.4-turbo, on the other hand, ran 16.2 seconds at 84.8 mph

not faster then a fr-s/brz...i do like how the dart looks and a SRT version will probably look amazing.

fr-s/brz > dart r/t
dart srt > fr-s/brz

Demandred7 10-07-2012 01:37 AM

Every time that my wife and I see the Dart beside our FR-S, we say to ourselves "still not that impressed by the Dart.". The FR-S looks smokingly hot compared to the Dart. With the exception of the SRT (which has way more hp), there is no competition. To our eyes, the Dart is still a Neon unless you slap a turbo on it.

The weird part to me the base model is a turbo the r/t is n/a but has a tiger shark motor the srt is a turbo tiger shark I like the look of the dart I think it is better looking then its main competition in the focus I think the fr-s could look alot better then it does the front end of the fr-s was a fail in my book the Hyundai coupe looks way better!

Hate to say it, but it's true.
I LOVE my friend's modified Si... the transmission is awesome, so is the MPG and fun factor...

but once you drive RWD (or even AWD)... FWD is just not gonna do it for you. Something about RWD just conveys a true sports car feeling to the driver.

The FRS will never be, and never was, about horsepower / numbers. Once you drive one for longer than 20 mins, especially on a long trip with winding roads... you'll totally understand and reach a different sort of appreciation.

I think the biggest fail was for Scion not to have brought over the GT86. It has better headlights, the presence of fog lights, better looking exhaust tips, and the option of a spoiler. All of these things come together and make a better looking package. I can see why people draw comparisons between the Genesis and the FR-S, but, having them beside each other, they are more dissimilar than similar. The Genesis has some good lines, but to me, it just seems to be trying too hard.

I have only owned rwd for the last 5 years but there is a few things I miss from my fwd mainly traction in bad weather and having fun at much slower speeds my Corvette is still sleeping until I hit 90 and the fr-s needs room to play or the right roads

Dude, you live in Phoenix. Define "bad weather" and I'll try not to laugh.

As for the Dart, I dunno. It looks nice and it's a Fiat (which means thankfully, it's not really a Dodge). Buuuut I would never consider it over an FR-S, SRT4 or otherwise. If you feel like you need "the right roads" to have fun in the FR-S, think of the type of roads you'd need to have fun in a 300hp AWD car. More or less the same experience you'd have in the Corvette.

I lived in Michigan before AZ I still love to snowboard and I go to Flagstaff almost weekend during the winter and I owned a charger and performance was better then the FR-S but gas millage wasn't and I killed the transmission playing around with it otherwise I would have never bought an FR-S

No, Dodge used to know how to build a muscle car (1960s Chargers and Challengers). The only "sports car" Dodge ever made was the Viper, and that's made by the SRT division now.

That being said, I'm sure the Dart will sell enough to possibly replace the Neon's/SRT-4's that current owners want to upgrade. It's filling a different niche than the FRS/BRZ.

well im pretty sure the viper is still a dodge which you are saying cant build sports cars. also acr has been known to spit out some fancy guys. lets not forget that even the neon had a huge impact on the autocross scene in the 90s

My family owns a few different SRT's and I can say that the challenger and the Viper are amazing! The Challenger has power and amazing handeling drifting it around cornors with little to no loss of speed is extreamly easy. And the Viper has the FUN FACTOR not matched by anyother car I have driven and an insane amount of power!

Your opinion is officially null and void. The Challenger handles like a giant sofa. I imagine I'd have more fun driving my office chair around a corner.

I could never buy a Dodge/Chrysler anything. The Viper is the only car they've *ever* made that I was even remotely interested in, and for the price of a used Viper, I'd much rather be driving an NSX.

switchlanez 10-07-2012 09:54 PM

Don't let the Dodge badge sway your perception; the particulars in the Dart should be different than what you'd expect given that it's really a Fiat Viaggio. And I like Fiats. I drive an AWD Fiat Sedici (aka Suzuki SX4 here in the States). Simple, robust, and Italian. Think of the Dart/Viaggio as the next step up from the 500 Abarth. The 500, Viaggio, and Sedici are all built on commuter car platforms for the masses. Should still be drool-worthy, nonetheless. But the lightweight, RWD, purpose-built sports car platform of the BRZ fills a more focused niche and should not be compared.

LOL. really? Car and Driver just rated this FRS/BRZ 4th overall with big dollar super cars for best driving car..--- and now a Dart ?

apples and corndogs... like that other guy said...

Im waiting for the IQ comparison..

Hmm the prowler was another awesome car Chrysler made and they owned Plymouth that made the Road Runner that was banned from most races for being an unfair advantage. The original Dart wasn't all that bad either and was the inspiration behind the magnum. The only NSX I have ever driven died during my test drive when I almost bought one. I went for my Corvette which for me is clearly a better car than a used NSX.
