Scion FR-S commercial coming after TAS
Woke up and reading daily post from facebook And one member of club4ag (dont know how he got the info) saying right after the TAS in nov scion will start looking for AE86, MR2, Celica and Supra for shooting commercial"s" for the FR-S in Dec in socal.
|
That's interesting, at least they're dedicated to heritage.
|
God, if they make any remote association between those cars and the 'Scion Nation', I will not be happy.
|
iirc isn't that for UK? As US, I haven't heard bout the any commercial yet
|
yeha why would Sicon want Toyota's on their ads?

Also, it's not like Scion has any "heritage", so they should obviously come in with Toyota's collection of notable sports cars  I say, GO GO GO! |

Uh oh. How are they picking the cars for the shoot? My moms got a beautiful MR2 that would be awesome to see on this commercial :P

"The FR-S Concept… however… is most closely related to… and really inspired by… the AE86 Corolla…known by its true fans as the “hachi-roku…” which means 8-6 in Japanese. The AE86 didn’t rely on brute horsepower… but instead a remarkable combination of a lightweight design… manageable power and great balance. It made its way into almost every genre of racing from grip to drift… and from the circuit to mountain roads." "You’re probably already pretty familiar with cars like the Toyota 2000GT… the MR-2… the Celica All Trac Turbo… and my personal favorite…the Supra Turbo." Inspired by the AE86, the FR-S is built around the core goal of achieving “pure balance,” which begins with the strategic placement of a flat 2.0-liter boxer engine in a front-engine, rear-wheel drive configuration. The engine’s compact size and shape allows the FR-S’ powertrain to be mounted lower and further back towards the rear, giving the car a lower center of gravity and a dynamically favorable front-to-rear weight ratio. His privacy setting is probably set to private.

They could put a KIA badge on the FR-S and if it's all the car we hope it is I'd buy two of them. |
im pretty sure everybody knows that scion=toyota.. so whats the problem
|
Actually I don't think most people know Scion has anything to do with Toyota. Scion isn't a prominent brand, so when people see Scion they're like huh...

The difference between Lexus and Toyota is every other luxury car on the road is a Lexus, while Scions are actually a rather rare sight (their sales numbers suck, makes sense :P). Everyone knows Lexus is Toyota, but I think the average person still scratches their head when they see a Scion. Toyota owners under warranty and people who visit Toyota dealerships would see Scion, but otherwise how would they know? It's a relatively new brand with relatively few cars.
|
I hope this commercial doesn't look like the Scion's Lightning Yellow commercial. Or.. the Kia's new Hamster commercial with robot aliens.
Lol Will be so much more happy if it was taking a corner. Like a 'baus'. And with the 86 next to it. Doing tantum up/down a mountain road. |

However the real target buyer for these cars will know that Scion is the youth/cheap brand of Toyota. Toyota showing a history of their good cars in an ad for this car seems like a good idea to me. So many people have written off Toyota products (if they are interested in performance/fun cars instead of appliances) that it could remind some older owners of said fun cars about Toyota and introduce them to a potentially new fun car for those ex-owners.. |

I've got some long, negative rants on here about Scion and it being marketing-focused instead of product-focused, but I will not put knock-offs on my cars.
This is still a worry. The FT86 wasn't a Scion idea. They didn't say 'Hmmm, our products are all based on mediocre performance platforms that don't get any performance respect, so let's ask Toyota to build a genuine sports car for us.' They said 'ZOMG that looks COOL! And since we're the COOL brand, give it to US!!!' How they market this car can affect the direction of parts available to it. If they go the Scion Nation route, that is bad. If they focus on their 'grassroots' racing that is good. If they do both, that is acceptable. The side effect of Toyota instigating the vehicle is that unlike the tC, it won't need as much aftermarket mods to be an acceptable performer, so any 'grassroots' racing will improve the car more significantly than the tC was. |
Was anyone else able to find reference to this information outside this thread? I've searched high and low. Serious.
|
They will probably put Scion logos on the Toyotas
:scared0016: |
My guess is that they wont show any promos on the car until a month or two before the release date. It was the same way when they were going to reveal the frs concept in New York.

At first I was torn between getting the Scion version or the Subaru Version of the FT86. After I looked at the fairly large aftermarket of parts available for the new TC I decided that I would rather just go TRD everything from the factory and stick with the Scion and the warranty. Also as others have stated I'm not looking forward to all of the highschool kids driving around in a similar car to mine. I think I might be the only 29 year old rolling around in one lol. |

Me - "I can't wait for this car to come out!" Them - "Who makes it" (semi-embarassed) "Scion..." "Oh..." (somewhat disgusted look on their face) "But its all Toyota and Subaru, just marketed under the Scion name in North America, but everywhere else it's a Toyota!" I feel like I immediately have to explain the background of the car for them to somewhat believe it won't be a turd of a car. I just wish it was a toyota here instead but I understand why they are marketing it as Scion. Scion just has a bad connotation but making it Toyota I think would increase the price so it's a double-edged sword. Either way it sucks. |
:laughabove: Same here!
On a side note, it's so much better for those of us who DO know how great this car will be, it will almost be a hidden gem in the automotive market :burnrubber: |

^ - never thought of that...that could be really good thing...but at the same time the money you save in getting parts from the junk yard, you pay back in a higher insurance
