New Toy!

Makes working on the car a bit easier. Makes me want to do more mods as well!

zc06_kisstherain 10-05-2012 10:56 AM

nice.. how much did it cost?

diirk 10-05-2012 10:58 AM

Very cool. Almost got a lift for my garage.

It that bolted down or can you easily move it?

BRAWL 10-05-2012 11:04 AM

More details please. How much and where?

So it jacks up the rear lift points and then you jack up the front with a trolley jack before puttign stands underneath?

cnk 10-05-2012 11:09 AM

It's a scissor lift. They usually run between $1500-2000 depending on the manufacturer/model. Most folks don't bolt them down, but I've seen where some have cut out a hole in their floor for the jack to sit flush. It jacks the car up via the side rails.

I've been thinking about getting one, but the only issue is that it limits your mobility under the car as you can see in the pic. Been really considering a Max-Access 2 post lift. What made you decide to go with the scissor lift?

Umbie 10-05-2012 11:21 AM

^ You are correct, it was about $1,500. On a level floor you can just drop it down and use it, but my floor was not nearly level, so it is cemented into the floor and shimmed to level. Even if it wasn't secured to the floor, it weighs about 1,200 lbs. so it would not be an easy thing to move around. Use is simple, just drive onto it, put some rubber blocks (included) under the pinch welds near the front and rear, and hit the up button. If my garage had higher ceilings, I would've gone to a full lift, but this will do. Perfect height for wheels/brake work.

What's it's weight limit? If I could use that for Jeep and BRZ I'd be a serious contender.

This is a nice tool. We should all start a Group Buy.....just sayin.

Do you mind telling us what brand you purchased?

He posted it in another forum. It's a Kwik Bay 7000. http://www.atlasautoequipment.com/pr...-scissor-lifts

Nice find

Jeff86 10-07-2012 05:10 AM

That's awesome!

I've actually been thinking about this Harbor Freight one:

TOMIMOTO 10-07-2012 07:46 AM

Nice! I want one. How would I go about getting my hands on one?

White64Goat 10-07-2012 07:10 PM

You're............kidding.............right? :search: Name brand and a link above??? Huh?

TheSt|G 10-07-2012 09:19 PM

I currently have a Bendpak XPR-9. At $2,700 it's pretty hard to argue with the safety it provides.

I picked mine up from the Greg Smith Equipment Delaware location to avoid paying freight. The weight limit on the model I got is 7,000 lbs.

Something about the lifts with no solid base makes me nervous. I would spend the extra dough and get a more stable one.

Dave-ROR 10-08-2012 05:12 PM

Nice!

I use this solution ;)

^ I wish I had high enough ceilings to get one of those... Is that your personal garage? If it is, you are one lucky bastard!

TemeCal 10-08-2012 05:35 PM

I'm really digging these mobile lifts. How safe are they? I know there are a lot of safety features built into them, but I'm curious to hear if these things fail.

Dave-ROR:
Absolutely LOVE your garage. I'd kill for a setup like yours!!!

It's a good friend's personal garage. It is the only place I work on my personal cars though.. AC, lift, tons of air outlets, tons of light, fridge, tv and radio  Can't beat it and I'm thankful that I can use it whenever I want to. My personal garage is just a normal 2 car garage, I have an air compressor in it at least, but in Florida, I try to avoid working in it unless it's December/January.

That looks like one hell of a man cave, definitely jealous. I don't even have the luxury of a two car garage, I'm in a four story car park in a city :burnrubber:

Here in PA we only have heat in our garage! In the summer, I just keep the door open and the fans blowing.

Sounds like a plan. Beforehand, however, I'd need to get a group by going for a garage as well... and a house to put the garage, for that matter.

Anyone?

Solid investment. Your body will thank you in the future. Thanks for the details.
