Japanese price rumored ¥1.99-million

Quote:

With the Japanese version of the Toyota FT86 presentation scheduled for the Tokyo Motor Show later on in the year, Japanese magazines have been speculating on a lot of details about the car that could single-handedly save the entry-level sports car market in Japan. One rumor that most seem to be agreeing on is that the successor to the legendary hachiroku will be sold for ¥1.99-million. With the strength the Yen has been enjoying as of late the converted price of $26,000 might seem pricey buy we can expect the Scion version of the car to be much closer to the $20,000 mark. If this is so, that will make the FT86 more affordable than the entry level Mazda Roadster in Japan, which sells for a ¥2.33-million ($30,500). This is one car everyone is waiting for!

Oh boy! More rumors!

Seriously though, I'll be surprised (and happy) if it undercuts the base MX-5.

If the JDM price to USDM price ratio of the FRS is the same as that of the Miata, this would mean a base price of $19,800.

If all of these recent rumors are true, holy crap. 200hp, 2550lb in a very low cg rwd sports car for >$20,000 is a recipe for awesome.

Exactly what I was thinking. If the base price of this car is at or under $21,000, I will be ecstatic.

those that want a sport drive with more usable space?

or those that fear RWD in poor weather conditions?

I was told 27K fully loaded roughly so I can see that range for base since scion has alot of options from what I hear

Meh, i guess you're right. Although if it were me (living in South Florida and all) I would NEVER buy a tC if i were given the option of the FR-S :bonk: and also given the fact i'll probably be buying the car slightly used to save myself from the Scion Depreciation and save me some $$

Hey EU members, with the ridiculous cost for purchasing your cars--I wanted to know if that included all of the other country tax as well? Or is it just the vehicle tax you guys have to deal with.

Hmmm, i see i see. well, if it's $19k > (meaning in the $21-23k range) those couple of 1000 dollars will make a difference to make such a margin that it would be an even and fair game between the two different cars? :iono:

If you put it in prespective that is 10% of the car's price. Yes a few thousand bucks make all the difference. To a Ferrari it makes no difference, but to a Scion, you are well on your way to another car with an extra 2k, or a new driver's insurance for a year.
