Because TRD!!

So I have a few TRD bits slowing piling up, and I want more!!
This was first and gets fitted tomorrow
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...trdspoiler.jpg
Next these arrived, and will be fitted when I get around to it hahaha
(sorry for poor phone pic)
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...Nafe/trd02.jpg
And this arrived today and I just threw it on
http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a...afe/knob01.jpg

Also have a TRD fuel cap cover that I might throw on, and a TRD oil filter.
Future TRD stuff will be exhaust and garnishes and the drop in air filter.
Would one day like the door garnishes and strut brace too. *Maybe* the brake pads, but waiting to hear some reviews.

whyreeto 10-02-2012 07:39 AM

hey buddy I'm wondering if the shift knob is the same size as the factory one we have? does it feel lighter? does it feel heavier? what are your comments?

I'm currently looking for shift knobs atm, but I'm still undecisive haha

st162celica 10-02-2012 07:48 AM

Because racecar.

I want the spoiler n shift knob.

Mmmm

Skorov 10-02-2012 07:49 AM

That's some nice bedding there!

i love my custom flossy redhead shorty.. just sayin'

LineNoise 10-02-2012 07:58 AM

I've got a flossy on a Dub I'm working on. Very happy with it, will be getting another for the 86.

Nafe, where did you get your wing and how much for?

Nardi330 10-02-2012 08:08 AM

Nice parts u got there. Would love your opinion on the coilovers. Are u gonna use stock top mount?

Nafe 10-02-2012 08:09 AM

@whyreeto Gearknob is lighter than stock, roughly the same size. maybe a bit smaller and i reckon half the weight. Didn't get it for weight saving though lol. Haven't driven with it yet, feels different in the hand fitted, but so far I like it. @LineNoise - can't remember exact price, it was so long ago lol. circa $350-400. Got from Japan. @Skorov - haha i like it :P More or less the only stuff i have.... ahhhhhh bachelor life lol

As much as I want to get some camber adjustable top mounts, I will likely keep the stock ones. I plan to fit these in the next couple of weeks and haven't considered/ordered top mounts, put it that way :P
I can't wait to try them out. They come at 25mm lower. Going to go down another 5mm :)

Nardi330 10-02-2012 08:20 AM

-30mm seems a good height. But the rear seems higher than the front on stock sussy, wonder if I should go lower at the back or not drop as much at the front lol

Ryan1JZ 10-02-2012 08:35 AM

so they are coilovers?? not trd shocks with lowered springs?? how much were they?? :)

lots of nice looking gear you have!

Ooops meant to say they come at 15mm lower, and going to 20mm :P
Any more than that can detract from the handling :)
They do look higher at the rear :/
The rear has more adjustment for low than the front ;)

They are coilovers, but the springs can be used on stock struts as well.
They are height adjustable and 40-way damper adjustable. Weren't cheap :P

Ryan1JZ 10-02-2012 08:43 AM

very nice... id like to have "in house" tech, but you have to pay the price i guess

Nafe 10-02-2012 08:52 AM

Yeah, I am a sucker for "in house" tuning, particularly TRD. You know they will perform well that way! Yeah, they are a bit expensive, but not many others will be better I'd wager. I mean who gets more R&D time with the car than the in house tuning brand?

The lowest bidder in the manufacturing tender?

Fussy08X 10-02-2012 10:44 AM

Nice gear Nafe. Im also a sucker for TRD and will give plenty of bias towards them whenever I think of mods for the car.

Look forward to seeing pics of your car with all the bits put on.

Do you plan to buy new wheels? Wish the trd wheels were decent looking. If I were to buy new wheels i doubt it would b trd as they dont look good at all

Nafe 10-02-2012 07:44 PM

I can’t wait to see it with all the parts either haha :P
Spoiler should be getting done today. Will be upset if it doesn’t.
Gearknob looks good.
Coilovers will be done soon enough. If I stop being busy/lazy.
Yes, I definitely plan on getting new wheels. Probably at the end of the year. Only going with 17’s. If the TRD were 17in, a bit wider and bit more aggressive offset I would maybe consider them :P

nix 10-02-2012 09:18 PM

Nice! Interesting that the TRD struts still use the full size springs.

I would start with the oem top mounts, camber bolts, and maybe a bushing kit. Then maybe the fixed whiteline top mounts if you don't have enough adjustment?

Nardi330 10-02-2012 09:40 PM

personally i'm getting the whiteline top mount as it gives extra castor. and you can't have enough caster lol

Nafe 10-02-2012 10:03 PM

@nix - yeah that's pretty much what I am thinking. Idon't want a great deal of negative camber anyway, -2.5deg MAX. I had enough of that shit whenI had driftcars :P @Nardi330 - haha you are right about castor for sure!!

nzer 10-03-2012 02:55 AM

Nafe, did you order direct from Japan or from Toyota North Shore here in NZ.

Be nice to have some of your strong dollars fed into our economy!

Nardi330 10-03-2012 03:06 AM

i recall reading Nafe had them shipped back by a friend when he went to NZ for holiday.

999 Automotive at Coopers Plains. they give me a pretty good discount for Whiteline stuff.

the mount is on order tho, won't be available until end of the month but i picked up camber bolts and rear subframe bushes today (which i ordered last Thursday).

Other than the coil-overs, you're paying for the TRD logo, not R&D. How much R&D and tuning is necessary for a shift knob, a fuel cap cover, all the various "garnishes" or a taped on rear spoiler?

Nardi330 10-03-2012 04:46 AM

i'd think the taped on spoiler (and body kit for that matter) would be developed in the wind tunnel. the VLN race cars have the front and side skirt installed (no rear spoiler as GT wing is fitted and no rear lower skirt to clear the straight exhaust).

other stuff like sway bars, brake pads, chassis braces etc should have some R&D involved.

with these JDM "tuners", there will be performance parts as well as accessories. dress up your ride the way you want. each to their own.

As Nardi mentioned, swaybars, spoiler, braces and even the exhaust and air filter all have had R&D and testing to some degree....
In my own personal case I was more specifically referring to the coil overs ;)
which should have been clear, given we were specifically talking about them at the time...........

Our economy thanks you!

They are really helpful there and certainly know their stuff. I was getting a lot of TRD stuff from them but then decided to go the full monty and order the TRD GT86 version we have here. Unfortunately Toyota NZ do the build so North Shore Toyota (NST) miss out on the sale as I ordered from a different dealer initially.

I'll definitely order additional TRD stuff from them though and highly recommend them to any Oz 86ers wanting TRD parts.

Sweet, thanks man. I am thinking about getting the mounts now, more for a convenience and ease of fitment thing than anything else atm lol.
But if they are end of month, may not worry.
Wanted coil overs fitted before then, because i am out of the country for the whole next month!

Yeah man, I am very happy with the guys at NST. I speak to Peter via email fairly regularly and he is great do deal with. We had an initial issue on collection, but he sorted it quickly and went above and beyond my expectations :)
Couldn't have been happier

D1 86 10-03-2012 05:44 AM

Yes, the Nst guys, Peter, Nick and Keegan are top guys. Really helpfull and just as keen as we all are on these cars and aftermarket parts.

Personally I'm happy to wait as RCE had some issue with quality of the whiteline mount (maybe only a batch) and I'd rather wait to get fresh stock.

I'd have no issue waiting for better mounts, but the main reason for getting them for me is ease of fitment by not having to swap over the stock mounts. I was quite happy to use the stock mounts, so will probably do that now that the whiteline are on backorder :)
WIll see how eager I get between now and the end of the month, If I still don't get time to fit the coilovers before I go to Japan, I might get the whitelines when I get back, or maybe some others in Japan, if there are any available?

Nostalgia1987 10-03-2012 12:45 PM

Curious how the ride of the car will be like after the installation of those TRD springs and coils.

Surok 10-03-2012 08:26 PM

how much were the coils?
