What would you do to your FRS with $10K
OK. I am 90% sure I am getting an FRS. I actually have my "deposit" for the next White, Blue, or Gray one that the dealer gets. They have a white one coming in this week, but it is "sold". I bought a venza from my sales guy (who is actually a sales manager) before so he did not want the "deposit". Sad thing is there are red, silver and black ones available.
So the other option would be a used Cayman S. I would expect the Cayman S to be at least $10K more. Ready to drop that in to the FRS. My plan: 1) New wheels 2) New head unit 3) Supercharger !! As soon as there is a reliable supercharger (or maybe a turbo) is available, I am in. This need to be reliable. I know it will kill the warranty, but hey it needs to be done. |
2jz swap

keep in mind, the cost of ownership of a Porsche Cayman-S in considerably higher than a Scion FR-S or Subaru BR/Z. I just did a 40K scheduled maintenance on my 06' 997 and it set me back $2400 (would have been more if I replaced my rotors). Porsches are great cars and you can find some great deals on pre-owns but parts and labor are very expensive....just saying.

if i had 10k to play with... Wheels+Tires ~2k, Turbo Kit ~5k, Coilovers ~2K, Tuning ~1k... Then would still need some good aftermarket gauges + pod, probably some other suspension bits, and subframe braces... easily an extra couple K ... It's hard to stop once you start lol.

I never understood these "Make my financial decisions for me" threads.

Turbo kit. Use the leftover money for supporting mods. These would make this car a DREAM come true.
|
With 10k I would pay it off.

Either pay off a portion of my car or if its strickly for mods Id do hid head lights, rear louver, set of rims, replace the faux vent under blinker, get custom fitted seat covers, trd exhaust
|
Some nice-ass wheels with kickass coil overs.
|
If I had $15000 burning a hole in my pocket is put air ride suspension in it so I can lower it for an aggressive look or raise it so it could make it over the curb of the driveway
|
Wheels/tires, coils, turbo, tint, and TRS retro-quicks.
|
18x8 BBS CH wheels
KW V3 coilovers STi brakes all around Intake and exhaust Sparco seats and harnesses Half cage Ok, that might be a bit over $10k, but not by much. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2 |
Ken gushis mod list on his car.....that is all, then spend the rest on strippers
|
Roll-cage, fire suppression system, window net, kill switch, FIA seat, 20 gallon fuel cell...
And there goes 10k and I haven't even made it to the tires, suspension, brakes, engine, diff, aero, cooling and communications yet. Argh! |
Volk G25 18x8, 18x9 $3200ish i think
Continental DW's $700 KW V3 coilovers $2k EcuTek reflash w/ E85 tune $1200 Milltek exhaust $1500 TRS HID's $150 Evasive Motorsports Downforce lip kit $800 or Forgestar CF5 18x8.5/9.5 $1400 tires $800 KW V3 $2k Turbo kit with tuning |
10K? I'd contact Eaton/Magnuson to get my hands on an R900 supercharger head unit, then get to work on a lower intake and throttle body elbow to install it with. I have an awesome aluminum fabricator near by, as well as a company that does 3D printing, and another that does custom casting. It's possible, but would likely cost more than 10k by the time I was done. Kind of a waste for a one-off though.

Turbo or supercharger, coilovers and wheels. It is a stretch but with smart shopping you can do it.
|
I would put it in my glove compartment and drive to the bank.
|
Somebody, sometime ,somewhere, somehow, needs to put an LS engine in this car. And while 10k would be about a quarter of the required budget, I might be tempted to start measuring.
|
Wheels, Coils, Cusco chassis improvements, Tune and full exhaust.
|
Expedite shipping & production on the parts I've already ordered.
|
Save up another 5 grand.. Because you know what? This will decimate all, after, you put about fifteen grand in it or more. If we have to, overnight parts from Japan.

-JPM Coachworks leather and alcantara interior trim pieces: $???
-ALSA Ghost Chrome metallic paint, professionally paint silver interior plastics to resemble real metal: $??? -Perrin header-back exhaust with cat and resonator: ~$1700 +S&H -KW V3 coilovers: ~$2000 +S&H -Prodrive GC012L wheels, 18x8.5F/18x9.5R: ~$4500 +S&H... FUUUUU http://cs5844.userapi.com/g30553934/e_39b88317.jpg But I want them sooooo baaaaad! -Hankook R-S3 tires 225/45R18 F/255.35R18 R: ~$900 + S&H Those would be my first mods, and would probably eclipse $10k but you get the idea. The wheels are the real killer... Plus the first thing I would do is a full exterior detail with Opti Coat 2.0 and 3M clear bra for the entire hood, fenders, front bumper and mirrors, which would run around $1,500 if I had to guess. |
I would spend the $10K to buy the FR-S a MK1 MR2 (including restoration work) as a pet!

Thanks all. Part 1 done. I picked up a Asphalt FRS last night! White was my first choice, but I do like the gray.
Got the BeSpoke and the carpet for the trunk. (beggars cant me choosers). I am actually pretty impressed with the BeSpoke. The BeSpoke iPhone app is crap, but the rest of the system is pretty nice. I am sure they will fix up the BeSpoke app and at least have a usable GPS for the few times that it is needed. Will put up first impressions soon. At the moment, I need to find wheels! Need to do some more research on suspension too. Want to lower it about 1". |
Turbo Kit + install & tune, full turbo exhaust, BBK for stopping power. All performance mods for me...
|
I would do 10+ HPDE events... mmm
I put an exhaust on my car for about $1k. But I think I would have had more fun at another HPDE event |
