the twins side by side
I went to Subaru this morning to have a look at the first BRZs in the country
of course i parked my 86 next to it and the subaru guys were taking pics too :) in SA, the BRZ is identical to the high spec 86, apart from the little boot spoiler http://i.imgur.com/Jyyowl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3rKnVl.jpg |
Looking sweet, bru!
|
Blue looks so sweet.:thanks: thanx for the pics bru. Is the interior also semi leather with alcantara? does the alcantara come in red? whats the price of the brz ?

@Vladror well for 40-50k is a full trd kit, a nice set of rims and an exhaust upgrade. Im gna stick to the high spec 86. does the high spec come with the red alcantara like some pics iv seen on the forum:iono: , iv only seen the standard model in sa.
|
damn, up here the low spec BRZ comes with much better standard features than the single spec "Scion" 86. and its only about $2k more

But yes, i think we pay about 50% more for our cars than the US... |
@Vladror thanx for the info - wonder if toyota will do a request for red alcantera- afterall we still have to wait for them to arrive from Japan. @chandz we pay so much more for cars here and then we have to sell our kids to pay for fuel lmao not that i have any but if i did, well we can negotiate myb buy 1 get 1 free.. jus playn..:slap:

Thanks for the pic! That blue is such a nice match for the car :-D Think I'm gonna call up some dealers here in JHB to find out if they have any models yet to view. Pity about the premium since like you say, it's essentially the same car but I guess there will be buyers looking for the scarcity factor.

Very nice!

i have the exact same pic plus my 86 is dark grey aswell lol
|
Nice pics, thanks.
To be honest, it almost looks like Subaru changed the bumper only for the sake of being different. 86's Bumper looks much more aggressive and follows the rest of the lines better. A more balanced design if that makes sense? BRZ also got a different and awesome sounding exhaust BTW so the main differences are exhaust + boot spoiler + maintenance plan. What is also different is the plain silver dash panels and missing white ring on the rev counter. Went for a drive in one a while back so I had a good look inside & out. |

BRZ's blue is stunning indeed. Really love that colour. |

The BRZ exhaust sounds wicked, really brings out the goodness the engine has to offer. however its just a change in the tone of the car, no apparent power gain. yet again something "different". That being said if the 86 looked liked the BRZ, I'd be one of the nuts that went with Toyota. I bought the 86 solely cause its the Toyota 86, the BRZ guys will most certainly be doing the same. Anywho, after hearing a few upgrades very anxious for warranty to finish. Car has alot to offer. :) |
Yep, both awesome cars. I'd also go for the Toyota every time(200 vs +-10 dealerships) but if the bumpers were swapped I'd have a dilemma. :D

Number of dealerships and resale value count a lot. BRZ exhaust is  but the BRZ front bumper is YEECH! |
Each to his own. I preferred the front of the BRZ and the better after sales service ratings for Subaru compared to Toyota in SA so got one of the first BRZ's in SA on 25 March, even though I have a Prado and the 86 Hi I ordered would have been delivered a week earlier than my BRZ in the end.
There are other differences - BRZ dash inserts are silver, she has Zennon lights and a sports exhaust, and I liked the full maintenance plan too. Otherwise, they are twins so we're all lucky to have such great cars! |

Maybe I've still got some nasty surprises ahead with Toyota - dunno? :iono: When my Subaru Forester was 8 years old (XT = self-levelling suspension), I had to replace the rear shocks. No sweat, it had been abused, done a lot of very rough roads and offroad work, and shock replacement was no surprise. But one of the new shocks failed after about a year. To cut a long story short, on my request Subaru agreed to convert it to standard shocks (non-self-levelling), and did the conversion plus provided new standard shocks at no cost to me. That level of care for a 9 year old vehicle was amazing, and it's still going strong, still being seriously abused, and still much loved. :w00t: |
Thanks for the pics!
That blue looks great! is it the same blue as the 86? or is the 86 blue darker? never saw one in real live. |

Aha, I love the Subaru blue! The 86 blue is too dark for my liking from what I could see on pics.
I had a Rav4 in that blue some 10 years ago and still love the colour! |
Close to my home, there's normally a blue WRX (his) and a blue GT86 (hers) parked together in their driveway. The colour difference is very apparant when the two are next to each other. The Toyota blue is nice, but it's quite a bit darker and sort-of duller. The Subaru WRB is amazing!!
|
It is a much better blue than toyota's, but the 86 blue is still a pretty classy colour... If I had the choice though, WRB definitely...

@Ryan86 I'm afraid to say after 8 months of waiting, my car still hasn't even arrived yet :(... I saw the car in blue and fell in love. I decided that I would wait however long it takes... Delivery date confirmed for end of June, so I will meet up soon :) I hope...
