Poll: what kind of car are you coming out of for the FR-S/BRZ?
Hey guys and gals,
I've noticed that a staggering amount of members on this forum are either replacing or complementing their Toyotas and Subarus with the FR-S/BRZ. As an MR2 owner, I can't help but chuckle at the amount of MR2/Celica/Supra/Corolla owners on here, holding onto their precious sports cars for so long, finally ready to get something new. There's also quite a few WRX/STi owners, and plenty of people coming from S2000's, MX-5's, Z cars, etc. So what are you coming out of? (Sorry Evo guys, I should've added Mitsu to the poll) And to you MR2 owners, did you feel like you needed to keep your MR2 after you got an FR-S/BRZ or was it kind of pointless? This is the question that I keep asking myself as save my paychecks for a BRZ down payment. |
I'm coming from an evo viii that had 347whp and 346wtq
It didn't exactly happen how I wanted it to since my evo was totaled thanks to some lady running a red light and going straight into me but due to the timing i was able to go put my name on the list for the frs and once everything with the insurance settled my car arrived about a week later. |

2006 Evo IX MR. Sold in the spring while value was still really high (or what I thought was). Sold for $21.5K. Car was super clean and all stock but did have over 90K miles on it. Bikes kept me entertained all summer but now it is getting cold, the FR-S was supposed to keep me entertained. But only had car 4 days and in shop exactly 4 weeks today :(
Edit: photo, this car was never in the shop except for scheduled maintenance and it saw redline every day that it was driven, or damn near. Great DD, except for fuel range. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/...s/DSC_0063.jpg |
Comming from a 91 Skyline GT-R, and a 2008 Toyota Yaris lol. I know it's quite the odd couple. GTR sold, and a week before the FRS arrived, the yaris was rear-ended and totaled.... Actually bought a new Yaris last week, as it was a great functional vehicle.

had a 2000 celica. recently sold it.

My '05 SRT-4 Neon was totaled last October, I couldn't finance a replacement car because I was in the process of buying a short sale. So I bought a '94 Integra with cash.
This ended up giving me about 4 months to decide on a car. When the FR-S pricing was announced I knew it was going to be my next car. |

I teared a little not seeing Mitsubishi on that list. But at least you apologized. ;)
I'm going to keep my AWD Eclipse GSX for winter/snow use but that's what I'm daily driving for now. This car is kind of similar to my Eclipse in shape and style and I like Subaru and their boxer engines and I like Toyota's older sports cars so that's why it got my attention. I admit, coming from the mindset of having superior all wheel drive traction and powerful turbo engines, I was skeptical about rear wheel drive and a NA 2.0L 4 cylinder. But after all the feedback and my test drives, I am certain that this will be my next car. :) |
Came from a '94 MR2 non-turbo.. didn't trade it/sell it though, it's still running strong.. I switch off and on with it & my BRZ now as my DD :)

I stepped out of this.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-S...2520Carmax.jpg One day you just realize that it's just a measuring contest with most people. It came to me when I went to a gocart track with a bunch of buddies with GTR,ninja bikes and etc. I enjoyed passing them in a 7hp gocart around corners more than passing them on the straights. Nah just kidding. The vette just got too irritating to own and play as the corvette tax was on about everything and scraping every speed bump and driveway hurt so much. I have enjoyed everyday with the BRZ and not really missed the 505 hp either which says exactly what I thought before I sold my vette. |
Got rid of my 92 MR2 to make room in the garage for the FR-S. I loved that car, but it was starting to turn into a money pit.
Funny story… I was cleaning out the garage the Saturday before my FR-S was suppose to arrive… had the 4Runner parked in the driveway and stuff scattered everywhere sorting through junk… the MR2 was still parked in the garage with the hood up charging the battery… a pickup truck pulling a trailer drives by the house very slowly then loops around in the cul-de-sac… stops in front of the drive and yells… Hey you what to sell that car? Thirty minutes later I was driving it onto the trailer and had cash in had. Guy said he had a small used car lot in the fringe of town and usually found his best deals for cars by driving through neighborhoods. The MR2 was like a fine glove that fit perfectly… hope I’m saying that about the FR-S in the future… :happyanim: |
90 Miata, 05 Mini Cooper, 07 Forester XT, 08 Mustang GT
Couldn't bring myself to part with any of them when it came right down to it, and I am fortunate enough to have cheap insurance and a large garage, so I just added the BRZ to the fleet. |
I'm going from a 2000 Mazda 626, which I love. I actually wanted another Mazda to replace it, but because my dad works at Toyota it was cheaper for me to get a new Scion/Toyota than it might have been for even a used Mazda. So I was looking at the Scions mostly because I didn't want a Camry or a Corolla. Right around I was looking the FR-S showed up and I had to have it.

05 Civic LX SE - 172k miles
Cleaning her up this weekend and taking it by the dealership to gauge what kind of trade-in value I can get. |
'07 350z Roadster w/ 6-speed manual. Was a blast to drive despite being 3600lbs(convertible is 300 or so lbs heavier than the coupe.) I was having a really bad headache/migraine episode and lost the ability to think for a second, failed to yield to oncoming traffic turning left on green and totalled it. I still miss the car, but the FR-S is turning out to be much more fun and I never took to modding the Z like I am my FR-S. The handling and feel of the car is definitely a step-up from the Z, plus it looks way cooler!

2003 Infiniti G35 - Carribean Blue.
I sold the Infiniti in August 2011, bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, then missed having a coupe  so I bought the FR-S in June 2012. Great car, but I still miss my Infiniti G35! |

2006 Nissan 350Z. It blew a head gasket and i used some of that cheap fix from Autozone so I would have enough time to trade it in and get an FR-S.

2010 vw golf I loved the golf, but I had more love for the GT86. I saw a brz driving down the street and was like holy shit there here, 3 days later I'm driving a FR-S

Went from a 95 eclipse GSX, to a 05 Evo MR 8, to this! So im use to AWD and the 4G63 platform.

00 Celica GT auto to FR-S MT.
Was about 1" lower than it appears in this photo. Definitely a great upgrade stylistically and performance-wise. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y39...SideBottom.jpg |
^ Oooh, you chose red again like me!

Will be an 08 Honda Fit. Which is why I roll my eyes at the complaints of lack of power.
|
2008 VW Jetta 2.5 SE. Once I saw the twins online, I knew I had to own one of them. I was so close to buying a super clean 2008 G37 with under 20K miles, but I could not pull the trigger back then. I now know why.

B13 Sentra SER (went bang), B15 Sentra Spec-V (totaled) and S14 (hard parked since Aug 13, driven 3 times maybe since)...

I came directly from a Miata and am pleased to say the FR-S feels just like home. Though, many moons ago I did have a Celica that I adored and until I got my Miata I was on edge waiting for an 8th Gen Celica that was RWD or AWD....

Traded a 2008 Mini Cooper S in on my FR-S. I figured I needed another car that would go around corners, I already have a 95 4Runner 4x4 to go off-road, and a '69 Mustang to go fast in a straight line, and a 99 Ford F250 diesel to pull them wherever....

What are your thoughts in comparison? I think the FR-S has less feedback and steering response as those cars but has a more direct/responsive engine/drivetrain and less body roll. Plus it's fun having less traction and oversteering. You? BTW, by "Other Japanese", the OP means "Mitsubishi." Unless someone happens to have a Suzuki. |
traded in a dodge magnum. the magnum was fun to drive but the FR-S is amazing compared.

I've owned a MT '91 toyota pickup ever since I learned how to drive, and have gone through many hand me down cars over the years. '04 Sequoia, '99 Avalon, '92 535i, '98 540i. After I finished college the first thing I did was buy myself my first brand new car, and since I had my heart set on this for quite some time I went and did it...
...And still have the Pickup in good condition (besides a few dings) for practical use and DD as well =] |
