How would one go about doing this? Also, would it be worth it?

Wait for the 7" iPad mini that'll be released next month. I will be purchasing a 4G version and building it into the dash.

Do you get that bored in your car? I guess it would be nice if I frequently had to sit in my car waiting for something.

If you live in san fran or new york city
you'd spend significant amount of time in traffic being bored and bored and bored and possibly angry

I live in NYC and the last thing I'll do is go play on my tablet while driving in traffic.

I just listen to music and enjoy the car

Ewwwww... why get an iPad?

I heard iOS6 has a horrible maps system..

Galaxy Tab LTE should work great.

I also heard people have been searching for normal things such as a Chinese restaurant that is 100ft away and it has pulled up one thousands of miles away.

I wouldn't count on it... Apple releases on a very strict schedule.

iPads are too big for a head unit application. That Head unit that was a full unit with Android built in was badass, but it was running 2.2... A DoubleDin head unit with ICS built in would be sweet.

Got3n 09-20-2012 03:49 PM

I would like to wait for a Surface tablet with win8 on it.

LOL at needing to be visually entertained in the car while driving. Nothing personal, OP, but if your eyes aren't on the road, you shouldn't be either. I say this to anyone and everyone.

Bumper to bumper traffic is the worst place to be distracted no matter the circumstance. Pedestrians playing frogger, people stopping suddenly and all kinds of other shitty hazards. Pedestrians playing Angry Birds already bump into things stupidly it will happen in a car. Mobile devices are just adding to Darwinism.

Fun fact, you can still use Google maps with iOS 6. Heck, I even have access to Nokia maps if I want to use it.

Jesus people.

They just make it a pain to use. Want to click a link in an email and be navigated to that spot.... NOPE!

While you're right about Apple generally sticking to a strict schedule, the mini is a new product/market to them so there's not a historical refresh schedule to base it on at this point. I will be surprised if we don't see one before Christmas.

Am I the only person who likes the new maps better? I used them for the first time on Saturday to help me get to the tint shop. Turn by turn was flawless and google maps never even attempted to do that. I was able to just set my route and set the phone down, directions were given over my stereo as I was playing music via USB.

Knowing how susceptible iPhones are to heat after being left in a car, that would be a concern of mine with a setup like this. Better get yourself a sunshade at the least.

Actually, as usual, Apple have just copied what has already been done. Google have had turn by turn navigation via Google maps on the Android platform for over two years now.

Dont get me wrong, I am not hating on Apple, I use both platforms (4s and SII)
and IOS is definitely late to the party with this one.

Hopefully this thread can stay reasonable and not turn into all out war between the fanboys!

I agree with you 100%. I am only saying that in my experience the new Apple maps work better than the crippled Google maps I'm used to using on ios. \

That said, the mapping/nav I had on my Droid I years ago are still better than what I'm using now.

Apple has some serious catching up to do, but I have faith that they will get there in due time :).

Jimbo 09-26-2012 12:55 AM

I like the new Apple Maps. I can easily find screwed up areas on Google maps too. The media is blowing this whole thing out of proportion.
