Wolfking 09-19-2012 03:14 AM

If it were, do you think they'd tell? If the crash didn't kill 'em, the embarrassment sure will...

What if they got hit by a drunk driver?

This, it looks like a dead on frontal impact, which is actually rare. You can see the shockwave ripple in the rear quarter-panel. Looks like the scraping on that panel is a result of the tow/recovery/pickup effort. Could be a crash test vehicle, or possibly crashed on transport.

The fact that there's a dealer advertisement plate on the back, and not a proper dealer plate or no tag at all, makes me think this car was just purchased by somebody. For damage of this kind, I'd also suspect someone else was at fault, cause this goes way above and beyond the "Oh noes, I don't know how to drives the RWD after all!" amateur drifter damage we expect to see on these cars. :(

Jason952 09-19-2012 06:26 AM

Could that be the one in the iihs vid? Same color

Not unless the dealer bought it for parts to scrap, the iihs test facility is is in Ruckersville, VA.

SuperDave 09-19-2012 07:07 AM

need to change the title of this thread!

jarviz 09-19-2012 09:01 AM

would an airbag deploy if the car engine wasn't running?

Nevermore 09-19-2012 09:08 AM

Is that hot lava? Say it isn't so!

Eurasianman 09-19-2012 09:29 AM

Wasn't there a thread the other day about a test drive gone bad? Could this be the same one?

Anyone else can correct me if i'm wrong but IIRC the high speed networking used for Airbags is kept on at all times and if the battery is dead, a capacitor keeps it alive for a few minutes or so.

Hawaiian 09-19-2012 10:52 AM

There's also damage to the back right. Maybe they were sandwiched between 2 vehicles?

Initial.jc 09-19-2012 11:19 AM

I called the dismantler, they mentioned the driver span out hit a tree then a telephone, probably drifting or evasive manuever since its dry in bakersfield right now.

Body all banged up, interior tore up = seats no good, dash airbags went out

Engine is priced about 2.5k

LOL. It suggests that someone thinks an automobile is a living thing in addition to being a religious nut. :bonk:

I agree. I wonder how many 2011+ v6 Mustangs get crashed? They have 300hp, rwd, and are probably less forgiving when you oversteer.

Maybe the inexperienced take the hype that pumps up the FR-S's handling a bit too literally, particularly when they say, "it can take any corner at 90mph." lol

It would have stickers everywhere. Plus those cars are crushed if I'm not mistaken.

Just called them. They said they didn't have a '13 Scion FR-S yet. Are you sure about your info?

nzer 09-19-2012 05:54 PM

Looking at the one in the vid/iihs pictures, i doubt its the same one. No white on the front tires of the car in question, plus the back window being blown out would suggest the car rolled. Can't tell more than that from the picture.

Also, scroll to the bottom of that article and check out the crash videos. Scary, but my peace of mind is intact.

Turbowned 09-20-2012 04:28 PM

Ouch, that's pretty serious! Good thing they got such good safety ratings! Hope the driver is OK and not planning on f**king around with the next one, if he was indeed f**king around.

I don't think it rolled, you can see where it hit the pole just behind driver's door and that would have deformed the cabin and blown out the window.

azian_advanced 09-21-2012 04:12 AM

all the windows are shattered. hmm suspicious.
