Senkaku Dispute - Japanese Auto Industry

Well, shit's about to hit the fan and get even worst. :sigh:

I hope japan comes to their senses to sort this mess out appropriately.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...china-protests

"Wang illustrates why Japanese carmakers such as Toyota Motor Corp. (7203), Nissan Motor Co. (7201), and Honda Motor Co. are bracing for what may become a bigger crisis in China than last year’s tsunami in Japan."

"Dealerships Attacked
Nissan led shares of Japanese automakers lower in Tokyo trading yesterday as protests turned violent in some Chinese cities. Japan’s three biggest carmakers -- Toyota, Nissan and Honda -- have reported attacks on their dealerships in the eastern port city of Qingdao and halted production at Chinese plants. Suzuki Motor Corp. (7269) suspended operations at its motorcycle factory.

Officials at Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (7211) and Mazda Motor Corp. (7261) said they’re assessing the situation in China."

Just another reason why I hate people.

serialk11r 09-18-2012 09:58 PM

I don't know about how significant this is, Japanese cars were never popular in China in the first place.

I read somewhere that a taxi driver got beaten to death because he was driving a Japanese car.

Disgusting sight. *SMH*

Buick!

Basically what's happening is the Chinese government is directing attention outward, while they're having a delicate, and currently complicated due to an info blackout on leadership that isn't normal, leadership transfer. This is as close as they come to a presidential election year and are at their most vulnerable to domestic unrest.

Getting kinda political/forbidden topic...

ichitaka05 09-18-2012 10:33 PM

^Ditto

iirc they even had same kind of protest/demo at San Fransisco China town.

It's absolutely pointless & idiotic... but let's not go into it

The words "made in Japan" haven't done me wrong.

It's a resource war. The islands are surrounded by rich fishing grounds and other rare resources that both sides want. If they didn't, neither Japan nor China would give a gnats willy about them.

The land was actually Taiwan's territory. Japan took it over in WW2 and the US conquered it shortly after. US then gave it back to Japan sometime after. So technically these two shouldn't even be fighting over it in the first place and its rightfully Taiwan's domain.

Which is a whole 'nother can of worms for Chinese territorial claims...

that's like saying give all the US land back to native Americans... Cuz it their rightfully their domain. While at it, let's give back Okinawa to Okinawan/Ryukyu Kingdom. Cuz technically they're separate people & give Hokkaido back to Ainu people.

My Toyota dealer said this isn't impacting my delivery date. Other than that I have nothing to add to this discussion.

US does give land back to the Native Americans. Casinos are proof. They don't have to pay taxes on the land either. I wouldn't want to go into it but theres a ton of Native American benefits here in the US.

Wait, but before Japan took over Taiwan it was China's territory...I suppose some would say that the government of China then is the government of Taiwan now. If you look at Taiwan as being an "occupied" territory of some sort then if they didn't "occupy" those islands then it doesn't belong to that government anymore, if the current Chinese government acquired all of their old territory. There's some scholar who says that Taiwan is actually US territory that they haven't fully relinquished yet, but then what about the territories that the US technically didn't conquer but Taiwan holds?

Still doesn't touch on Japan's position...I haven't read into this at all.

Meh, politics, law, let politicians deal with its inconsistencies and paradoxes :P
