So went on eBay a week ago
Ordered a flip case with key for $10..
Opened my old key and transferred the transmitter chip and buttons into flip key case
Cut the new key and was done..
took 10 minutes, pretty basic stuff but feels better personally..

Different seller but same product.. was gonna link it up but I seem to have lost the link and my phone doesn't like going to desktop view on eBay only for some reason.. so couldn't put proper link on..

But yes that's the one basically I remember it as a paw print shape key pad :happy0180:

Saw your diy.. lot of effort put in.. um no we don't have panic..maybe gts does but my gt86 doesn't.
I love flip keys, was disappointed when they first gave me my old skool keys, lock smith asked "keys for a 90's hilux? Yeah $15".. I said no for the gt86, don't ask, thought they would actually get with the times..

same here. i cant believe they give us a standard key for these cars.

Cappuccino 09-20-2012 05:02 PM

It's a Toyota I can believe it. My old Lexus key was the same as all 00s Toyotas only difference was the L on the back.

GTS doesn't have a panic button either.

draggin_az 09-20-2012 05:42 PM

the whole panic button must be a USA thing. i blame the gov for in-stealing fear into everyone. i dont if y'all know micheal moore is but he did a documentary on it.

I think all new 86 owners should be presented with the key to their new car in this manner.

I have seen some Lexuses with a panic button but not any Toyotas in Aus.

thats weird. every car (including the base model chevys) have a panic button. no one uses it as a panic more like a car finder in the mall parking lot.

It's Aus we give no f**k for a panic button. Someone tries to rob us we will either glass em with a spare beer bottle we have in the car or hand them the key LOL.

As in a mouse dragging the key out of a hole who then gives it to a beautiful princess who in turn gives you the key.

I want everything to be handed to me like that.

Hmm I ordered one of these flip keys on ebay not realising the GTS doesnt need a flip key. I'll probably put it back on ebay when it arrives.

mattles 09-28-2012 03:03 AM

ditto on the panic button, I definitely only use it as a car finder feature since amongst the hoards of SUVs its sometimes daunting to find smaller cars.

ChocolateNick 10-03-2012 01:47 AM

Anyone want a flip key.I have one I don't need so I am happy to negotiate on price. Let me know in the next few days or I'll put it back on ebay.

Loki556 10-03-2012 09:12 PM

Hey Nick, yeah I'll take it.

PM me the price, including the cost of sending it to Brisbane

I interpret the key as being in keeping with the back-to-basics spirit of the cars.

CHIMP O 10-09-2012 07:02 PM

nice one mate! pretty simple by the looks of it.
better than a standard key by far :)

i interpret it that we're buying a base model which is around the same price as a speccd up corolla.

Having said that im modifying one of mine into a flip tonight :)

Bauer 11-03-2012 07:29 AM

just wanted to stop by and thank the OP for the idea. I did mine yesterday. Works a treat :)

Your review looks hell easier than the other one 'draggin az' did. But did you have to remove and refit the transponder to the new fob?

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-FLI...item27c41f53d8 Says 2 button, but I've used it and it has the other buttons, It can be 2, 3 or 4 button.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TOYOTA-SC...item4abf237240

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FLIP-Fold...item3363e5dea0 I'm pretty sure this fits our 3 button.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Remot...item5d350e01b1 Is the cheapest, I bought it. The holes for the buttons needed enlarging and the rubber cover on the buttons needed gluing

I also tried this one. It is not compatible. The Problem is the key shank is too thick and is incorrect. It doesn't have the shaved thinner part along the shank. You can get replacement shanks that are suitable.

Where do you get the correct shanks from?
Thanks Len

I didn't buy a compatible blank. I used a copied key and cut and filed it to fit. However, I did see spare blanks on ebay. I have no experience about which one is correct.
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_odkw=toyota+flip+key&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_ trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nkw=toyota+flip+key+bl ank&_sacat=0

at your own risk, the following may be the compatible blank
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Alarm-Flip-Remote-Key-Blank-Blade-Replacement-for-Toyota-Corolla-Camry-/390599516415?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item 5af18ba0ff

I have included photo of the 3 flip keys I have tried
The pair on the left I decided to not use long term due to feeling bit sloppy flip mechanism. I am currently using the key second from the right. The key furthest on the right has the incompatible shank. I may use the copied key next to it to make a compatible flip key. Or I may try an ebay blank.

Doh! I just ordered that. Now gotta look for a suitable blank. Can anyone confirm which one definitely works so I don't order a wrong one?
