U.K. People
Hi,
What U.K. People do we have out there looking at this car? For me it's this or a second hand 996/997. Not sure if I wll go for Toyota or Subaru version if I do get this, it will depend when next year I am in a position go purchase, the latter half I guess. Cheers |
I'm from the UK, andhell yes, I'd like this car.... though depending on what its like when it comes out I may end up getting a used GT-Four, MR2 turbo or a TT Supra and rebuilding it from the ground up!
|
Wow, I guess this car will be rarer than rocking horse shit! Awesome :party0030::happyanim::burnrubber::thumbup:
|
Just the two of us, hehe excellent. And there's a new Subaru dealer opening 5 miles from my house. Just loving this build up, hope it lives up to the hype. Is it worth waiting for the STI? Guess you can make some minor mods such as K&N filters etc and remap to get that little bit more out of it. I think that I will be adding some form of satnav / Bluetooth system at some point? Bet our price isn't even vaguely close to that of the US. I just hope it's same in GBP as it is in dollars. :)
|
Think I'll just get a TomTom, always refuse to buy a car with sat nav in as they are always way overpriced and crap!
yeah if its $25000 US in the States it'll be £25000+ ($40k+ US) in the UK! I may have to see if the dealer will do a deal, like a contract that if Toyota release a turbo within say 18monthys then cost price upgrade :) (I can dream!) If not I'll just do with it what I did with the ST205 GT-Four I used to own, and mod the shit out of it! |
Another brit on board
Enjoying the hype Will go for the subaru version to add to my other 2scoobie Only worry is RWD against my AWD I'm used to as the 350z used to be redundant in the winter and snow last year |
I have access to a 2005, Imprea WRX so I'll nab that if it snows, or may even pick up an old, used Hilux and whack some snow tyres on that (for £2k all in)
Yeah, would enjoy a 4wd turbo model, but I just can't deny a proper FR coupe is what I really want, I'm determined to get another proper 'drivers' car :) |
Greetings Milord, nice to see there is 3 of us now, almost enough to take on the infestation of highly emotive colonials on the main pages. Is it me or is the time dragging waiting for the next reveal? Snow won't be an issue I can snag an XC90 and that should be all right for some snow on the roads. Managed last year with the Edition 30 ok and that was an unprecedented 14 ". Really looking forward to this next set of pics and data as it will be interesting and highly inflammatory to some generating many rants no doubt. :happy0180:

Im glad I've found people from the UK, was getting a bit suicidal with all the comments from those lovely Americans :) about how it needs automatic, and this and that :o
It's supposed to take from the AE86, wonder how many people have actually driven one and know what they are all about! I have, and it was the most fun I've ever had in a car, and I've driven some really exotic kit, from 400bhp rally cars, through to Hayabusa engined caterhams, porsche's and ferraris, christ I've even driven a couple of open top single seaters.. (and yes, it was a hell of a squeeze for me to fit in them!) Though for on the road use (and playing on circuits/carparks when feeling mischievous) the AE86 was just immense! This car from Toyota needs to get that really emotive feeling to be a real success! |
Never had the chance to drive the AE86 but all who did say the same thing. Have had a Celica GT, 2 x Cooper S and a 3.2 Audi TT Mk2 amongst others to drive and have to say the Mini`s were the best for the "Go-Kart" feel, the TT was just great to drive and really throaty to listen to, the sort of sound that just makes you grin and the Celica was my first sports car and I loved it to bits.
So i guess I`m looking forward to this to see what it brings, hopefully a collection of bits from my others. If this fails then its a TTRS or a 997, nothing else out there I like. (Need 2+2 as have 2 little ones to cart about) Love the STi but the interior is a let down for me especially when you compare it to the performance. Kinda sad? maybe, but you spend more time in the car than out of it and after a while little things like " they should have made this look better" will irritate me. I`m sure i read somewhere on this forum they had improved the interior of the 2012 models from Subaru, is that correct?:iono: |
Strike another one up for the UK!
I never venture down to these sub forums :) |
Our numbers grow, today we take over the UK section, tomorrow the whole forum.:) So anyone any particular things they are looking for in this car, wants, don't wants? Or are you just sitting waiting, endlessly trawling for new information and not finding any, like me !
|
Greeting :) Never noticed a UK thread before!
|
Just got it started as I wanted some sanity and was curious to see what following there was in the UK as It seemed to be almost purely American and Australians bumping their gums. Good to see there are a few of us hope we see more. :happyanim:
|
I'm just looking for decent info, and not a load of tripe shouted about by those who know less than 1/10th of fuck all, which most of the posts on this forum seem to be :(
|
I burst out laughing reading that...excellent. I think the only way to find the accurate information is to see what they release as specs each car show. The rest is all smoke + mirrors, S.W.A.G from forum members, and misinformation to fuel expectation..hell thats just like my work...
Have to agree that the sheer volume of utter bollocks that comes out from some of them is amazing. AFAIK: Its a 2.0L 2+2 Rear wheel drive and there will be two types one from Toyota ( in europe) and one from Subaru From what i can gather all the rest is horseshit. The engine is supposed to be the Boxer one from Subaru but its been totally reengineered less for the mounts by Toyota, so doesnt that make it ..not ..really..a..subaru.. boxer... engine? Funny thing is it will be shown in production form and half of these guys will go off in a huff because, theres no turbo, they dont like the lights, the spoiler isnt big enough etc etc. Personally i think it looks nice in both varients for different reasons, I like some of the renders, particularily the different colours of the BRZ ones, that got done and if it looks like that with or without an air intake its all good as far as I am concerned. Main concern is what rip off price will they try in Europe? :) |
Another from the UK. You'll also find me lurking on the other Toyota UK sites. I've spoken to you before Leeky, on TOC. ;)
I don't post often though. I gave up trying to fit in. |
Hope we dont do that to you, am hoping we can keep it a bit sane here. Also hoping to get the drop on them all with pics from Frankfurt show, friend works for Rolls Royce in sales so he will be there even before the press day so might get the scoop on the specs and pics of BRZ and FT86. Have text him and asked him to send them, fingers crossed.
|
Still nothing appeared on any press websites apart from subaurus new suv machine which looks nice in orange so hope BRZ can be done in orange or yellow prehaps
|
Check out the main thread. Its a clear concept again. Small blurb from FHI.
Also FT86 in burnt orange not white as expected. |
As expected then, nothing new really except you can see sme of the lines better in Orange and keep them all screaming how unfair it is
|
I'm still sold. I still want the Toyota as well. I'm loving the colour... I always love cars with exotic colours. I dye my hair exotic colours for a reason, so I'd love a car which had one too.
|
From auto express:
"Expected to go on sale in early 2012, it's expected that the car will cost from around £18,000" Link I know the RX8 released sub 20k (i think) back in the day, but was never expecting it to happen for this. I know this is not confirmed, but wow, if it was to happen it would be amazing! |
£18000 :confused0068:, if its even close to that it will be amazing. It might even be the end of us paying this ridiculous premium on cars just because we live in Europe . Maybe thats what they are hoping for? It would be an instant seller for sure, assuming its actually half decent in handling and performance.
I`m not going to hold my breath on it but still.......:eyebulge: |
Well I think £18000 is the literal exchange from the dollar figure that Scion announced I think. It would be tits, however, if it was £18k starting. :D
|
Agreed however it wont happen, we have to account for the European location pricing variation cheers easy suckers tax.
Also known as europeans will pay more so charge more than the price in the US. If it does I`m going 2nd hand 997 instead. |
Anyone from the UK looked into the Subaru VIP program? I couldnt see anything outside the U.S. except for the International mountain Biking membership that might qualify. Except thats through affiliate membership in Europe. Just wondered if anyone for the U.K. had enquired with a Scooby dealership? :iono:
|
18k would be fantastic
I assumed ( and am probably correct ) that it would be 25 k aprox Maybe the Toyota will be cheaper and the BRZ loaded with equipment |
Another UK newbie here
18k would be lovely, but you just know its going to cost more :) |
Well I think that's about ten of us British on board now
Looking good For me it will have to be the Subaru to maintain my scooby fleet it some of the pictures of it look great Although I hated the 350z in the wet and a disaster in the snow I loved the looks of it as I spend many happy hours waxing ,polishing and detailing in general Roll on the next motor show |
Hey another UK member here! I'm hoping to get the Toyota so I'm saving my nads off while at uni and working loads over the summer. Fingers crossed...
If anyone's interested I've started a UK based site, very small at the moment cos I only made it this week, but once the official name is released ill buy a url and get a forum up. Can follow on Twitter and Facebook for announcements and news and stuff. I'm doing Journalism at uni working towards a career in motoring journalism, done some work exp at Autocar too. Really passionate about this club so would love people to get involved! Links are in my signature. |
Hello all,
I've been a member on here from the earlier days, though I admit to getting a tad tired of the daft speculation, which is what it's been. So as a result I stopped coming on here. However, we are now nearing the time, well sort of! I have been speaking with my dealer and they are saying summer next year. We'll see I guess. What do I drive? An AE86 of course! ;) http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...12_63721_n.jpg I for one, really hope it lives up to the hype of the AE86 because, the AE86 is such an icon, the FT86 has a hell of a lot to live up to. I am somewhat awaiting with baited breath for the reviews. I have had some discussion with my dealer (RRG Macclesfield) and we think it is looking likely that if they get an FT86 in the showroom they'll put my car alongside it. That would be cool! But, for me, I can't afford a new one (I spend all my money on my current car!), but maybe in a couple of years it'd be cool to have both an FT86 and an AE86 on the drive! As for all the turbo crap, why is it, everything has to have a bloody turbo thesedays? My car has 132bhp, it's enough to have fun tbh, straightline speed isn't the point, going round corners (often sideways) is more what it's about. It should be about handling not whether it can outdrag a BMW 330D. |

Cant be many around in the UK, as you say, would be great to have both. |
Greetings UK guys.
Thought I'd better show my face after reading the forums for a while. Looking for a little sanity... Our cousins from over the pond take this stuff waaaaay to seriously. |
|
Looking good now
Subaru website are inviting people to register their interests a week after Toyota website I've emailed Subaru for colour options and they say we will be the first to know as we are registered Its looking good for Subaru |
An ex AE86 owner here. I had a lovely black '87 D reg but the ravages of a few Scottish winters got the better of it so I sold it about 10 years ago. Doh! I'd love another one but I'm not willing to pay £6-7k for a 25 year old potentialy troublesome and rusty money pit.
I've been looking at the option of a second hand Cayman S but if this Subota is any good I'd be tempted to get one of these new for similar money. The AE86 was brilliant though. Everyday useable, not too noisy for long journeys, great for track days, 3 up with luggage no problem, my mountain bike fitted in the boot,...... |
Hello! This is my first visit on the UK section of this forum and i just wanted to stop by and say thank you to those who post up any new info. It seems like any useful and reliable info comes from someone from the UK. :respekt:
|
Thanks for that
We are estatic over here at pictures from LA of the BRZ STi It couldn't look better looking forward to it joining my subaru fleet |
