What are you upgrading from?

What are you upgrading from?

I am interested to hear because it seems this car has a target market of 25-35 year olds that bought a supra as soon as they got there p's. And its not until now that they have found a car exciting enough and in the right price range to replace it with.

I had a 95 Supra (non turbo), put it up on carsales and within 48 hours had a list of 8 p-platers that all wanted to buy it. funny enough they all wanted me to speak to their dads to talk money... :paddle:

Managed to sell it on the first weekend, its now with a p-plater in Sydney who doesn't know how to drive a manual.. I felt like I had just left my first born baby with an abusing family  I could hear my Supra saying "please dad can I go home you now?!"

So now I am carless for 2 weeks, Ive managed to borrow a Citroen Xara vts until the 86 GTS is ready to pick up. I figure that's a good thing as it will make the upgrade that much more satisfying.

i sold my excellent (inside and outside) conditioned 03 lancer coupe GLI UNDERPRICED (cuz i didn't feel anyone would want it)...that kIANT re-sold it after 3 weeks over priced lol....

the best part is, when i sold it to him, he looked like a honest and a great guy to take care of my baby...slowly when i asked him for his license, he actually told me was he disqualified until end of next month....im just like wtf.....

anyhow, i have my 86 now, but i still miss my old baby :(...its down somewhere in cronulla now, panda looking lancer coupe (CF hood, matte black rims)

eleu2166 09-13-2012 01:38 AM

Coming from a 2007 Civic Type R (FN2), the one that everyone hated because of Jeremy Clarkson.

JiB 09-13-2012 02:33 AM

I had a 9 month old mazda3, wish the 86 came out 8 months earlier! would have saved me $5k :\

Gir 09-13-2012 03:26 AM

My immaculate 1989 Honda Legend Coupe. Miss the car already, but now it's a p platers first car. Hope she takes care of it :(

Sparkles 09-13-2012 04:08 AM

06 Honda Accord Euro MT
Freakin loved that car...sold it to my brother in law so I still have visitation rights

oddworlds 09-13-2012 04:16 AM

1964 EH Holden...still got her though : )

Sutty 09-13-2012 04:24 AM

2008 Holden Barina!
My son is inheriting this for his 16th birthday, so long as he get's his L's.

RZ86 09-13-2012 04:29 AM

I've come from a really clean stock '96 Supra SZ-R, loaded with all the factory options - recaros, 6spd, etc. I still miss it. I'll defiantly get another Supra sometime in the future, a really clean S2 RZ :). I'll have the 86 as a daily haha.

ZZT86 09-13-2012 04:41 AM

Current car is my "screaming" & lightly modified zzt231R Celica 6sp, almost as new condition, will most likely keep it cos it supposedly ain't worth much, but it's worth heaps to me cos I know how good it is.

Really looking forward to a proper RWD sportscar !

LineNoise 09-13-2012 05:04 AM

Fiesta XR4.

Undecided whether I'm selling or ripping the interior out, welding a cage in and sticking some gravel wheels on it.

Visitation rights is nice as long as you are not forced to pay child support.:(

MickeyB 09-13-2012 05:18 AM

Suzuki GTi

BRAWL 09-13-2012 05:19 AM

1990 Nissan 300zx non-turbo. Love it to death but feel I have had enough of the dramas that come with a 22yo car. 86 will be my first new car and what a car! :)

RJ_ 09-13-2012 06:14 AM

Subaru Liberty MY07 GTB. I have had it since new. Slightly modified and still a great drive after 130,000 kms. The BRZ is due in August 2013 so it will be about 150,000kms when I go to sell it.

There is an independent Subaru wrecker/mechanic/dealer near me that paid cash for my last Liberty. I'll see if he is interested closer to my delivery.

I'll also try the Liberty forums for interest. I won't bother with private sale. Not enough people where I live to make it worth while.

tibsy92 09-13-2012 06:34 AM

2011 vw polo gti. The night mare dub. I kinda miss it tho :(
Especially the dsg fart with resonator delete.. oh well happy with my 86

llama_au 09-13-2012 07:08 AM

From a 2005 Nissan CUBE3. Yes, nothing remotely similar. I've owned 5 Nissans prior to the BRZ I have on the way.

crimespree 09-13-2012 07:38 AM

so mainly not your stereotypical "drivers" buying these things then...

llama_au 09-13-2012 07:41 AM

I've owned 3 Skylines and a stupidly fast, stupidly modified Pulsar prior to my sensible CUBE3, so I'm going back to my roots :)

crimespree 09-13-2012 07:59 AM

wasn't directed at you, just the "gist" of the replies.... who knows what "drivers" really drive

Turdinator 09-13-2012 08:00 AM

Well I've had a pretty modified TA22 celica for the last 8 years, a 2010 wrx on loan for 6 months and a few R31s and a V8 Holden commodore. Plus various puss box work cars.

The celica is my baby. Nothing sounds like those webers at full roar. And no computers to dilute the driving experience. :burnrubber:

brenoz 09-13-2012 08:03 AM

Upgrading from 350z.....long story.

Z86 09-13-2012 08:28 AM

2003 986 Boxster

Was in the market for a 987 Boxster when the 86 caught my eye.

st162celica 09-13-2012 09:04 AM

22 year old celica.
Have had it for 12 years. First car.
450,000kms.
Leaking- oil, power steering, coolant, air con.
Rust everywhere
Gears crunching, popping out of 2nd all the time when not on throttle.
Cracked windscreen as of yesterday, due to rust.
Won't start everyday, due to flywheel not lining up with starter motor gear.

It still screams to 7k redline. 3sge !

Been holding off buying another car for years since I heard about the 86.
I'm so sick of fixing issues with it. Happy I done most of the repairs myself which saved me a bit of money.

My 86 gts manual grey arriving between 24th-29th sept.

I can't wait ! Either $1000 trade in or straight to the scrapyard. Have to clean the garage out

SeanM 09-13-2012 09:17 AM

2005 Mitsubishi Galant, 100k miles, I can honestly say I'll never miss that car.

Toyota GE engines are designed & built to go. The 3S-GE is the base for the 3S-GTE engine in the GT4, a car you could easily screw plenty of horses from.

I still remember the journos giving that car a great wrap back then in the mid eighties, it was the best car in its class. Just like the 86/BRZ !

aarhdum 09-13-2012 10:58 AM

Upgraded from my MR2 - 93 bathurst model :)

Was my first car too hehe 8)

Bauer 09-13-2012 08:16 PM

Im coming from an MX-5. A lot of comparisons are drawn between the 2 cars and for someone who rarely drops the roof, the 86 wins hands down.

Yeah I know. It's a great car. $35,000 rrp in 1989 !
Toyota set the benchmark for front wheel drive cars

I really wanted to keep it but it's had it's day + I don't have the room for it.
maybe might try n get an original st165 from japan later on.

N12 Pulsar > XR Falc wagon> (back to the n12)> Seat Cordoba > e21 316 BWM > Eunos 500 > 2006 Hilux > BRZ

I like cars.

davey90 09-13-2012 09:04 PM

Had a second hand Suzuki 2008 Swift R.E.2 which was written off twice, i didn't know about and not done by me (had it since i was 18). Had to leave that car, i was sick of front wheel drives, even though they are very grippy!

Synack 09-13-2012 09:18 PM

Downgraded, Nismo 370Z.
