Finally got my afe takeda intake!

Well after months of waiting...it finally showed up! :D

Looks freaking clean! Will be installing/reviewing this weekend.

SWPBRZ415 09-12-2012 06:41 PM

Waiting for mine as well, scheduled for delivery today. Got the car all torn down ready for install. the wait is killing me!!!!

Mister_Sir 09-12-2012 09:02 PM

Sweet!! I'm suppose to be getting my afe catback next week (hopefully) and the intake will be the next mod. Looking forward to your review! :)

86_ZN6 09-12-2012 09:20 PM

where did you order? direct or through a vendor?

SWPBRZ415 09-12-2012 11:37 PM

Got it installed, just love the finish/quality of it. Seems like i lost some low end torque , but screams above 4k. Sounds mean as hell. :burnrubber:No bogging issues, but need to log some miles to be sure. Ordered mines direct from AFE months ago.

Spartan65 09-12-2012 11:39 PM

Is the sound generator tube open or needing to be drilled?

Needs to be drilled if you want to keep the sound generator.

jmah88 09-13-2012 03:13 AM

lost some low end power? thats a bit disappointing. the dynos in another thread it showed gains across the entire rpm range!

Agreed, this could be disappointing if true. Are you completely stock besides the intake? Mine should be here shortly, and I have the EcuTek stage1 tune, not sure if there will be a difference in the low end or not. But you could tell a big difference in the top end vs stock?

This could indicate potential bogging for me. Other people lost low end on the AIRAID unit while my car cut power and jerked.

I wonder how an AVO inlet kit with high flow filter + modified snorkel would do....

Sportsguy83 09-13-2012 08:44 AM

I wish someone will Dyno it now. Two original Dyno sheets provided by AFE showed the intake making power across the rev band or at least staying atop the Stock Dyno.

Oh I plan to dyno it. I'm even going to do a dyno comparison against AIRAID's intake (I'm going to borrow my friend's for the dyno, since I am returning mine). Still waiting for a tracking number, though.

FT-86 SpeedFactory 09-13-2012 09:01 AM

It's a nice unit. :)

AJ PwR 09-13-2012 04:32 PM

Love the design and built quality !

VSGTS14 09-13-2012 04:38 PM

a lot needs to be considered when making an intake. if low end is lost, then it's a poorly designed item...unless it needs to be couple with other air/fuel related items (full exhaust, tuning). a lot of these things need to be paired together for the full effect and benefit. i would not be installing anything on the car that sacrifices the stock performance.

FrsSwag 09-14-2012 01:09 AM

Dynos dont lie, bet the car is still adjusting. My low end feels alot better

Remember the stock vs. afe intake dyno runs they provided were 2 weeks apart. The ecu may still need to adjust.

Burn 09-14-2012 02:56 AM

Is the cone filter detachable ? I'm considering to replace it with a K&N cone filter.

ngabdala 09-14-2012 07:38 AM

I have power gains at the low end just by using the aFe oiled air filter with the stock intake.

I'm glad I decided to save the money on buying an intake. Canceled my order with aFe. There are some big name companies that haven't released their intakes yet so I'll be waiting a year to see who truly has the best gains.

It is, but curious as ty why you would want to do that? AFE filters are made in house, and of good quality. There is also a dry element option, so you will never have to oil it like the K&N's.

No, but dyno operators can. Scaling, and tampering with dyno results is easy.

thats the problem with ALL cone filters.. which is probably why flat panel are almost always (some older fords) used from the factory..

^Opposed, your sig says you have a Perrin UDP. Do you mean lightweight pulley or does Perrin have an underdrive pulley available?

Sorry about that, it is just the crank pulley :)

I got mine today. I ordered from Titan but it was shipped directly from AFE to my house

I just reached the 1000 miles mark so barely know how the stock engine feels. If I install it tomorrow, I wont be able to report any difference besides noise. I might use it stock for another week and report to you guys later. :23:

Amalgamo 09-15-2012 07:42 PM

Pics of the intake

I'm subscribed to this thread. Loss of low end is NOT what I want from an intake so I've put my order on hold.

If you start a new thread for whenever you dyno, please post a link to it in this thread so we know!

switchlanez 09-15-2012 11:29 PM

JW did you all receive these shipments thru FedEx? Because I was one of the first to pre-order and missed a FedEx package yesterday morning...

Gixxersixxerman 09-15-2012 11:45 PM

Is it me or does the greddy unit look exactly the same and 40$ cheaper

Exactly the same minus the sound tube hole

Greddy did not put much R&D to it so they can lower their prices

Gixxersixxerman 09-16-2012 12:04 AM

So manufactured by the same company but have different stickers lol... I've never heard of this company so that's why I was looking at the greddy unit.. Been around for ever

FT-86 SpeedFactory 09-16-2012 12:39 AM

The Greddy is the aFe just with a different sticker and the sound tube change.

86_ZN6 09-16-2012 12:43 AM

Also the filter greddy is using is
Also their own

switchlanez 09-16-2012 12:44 AM

If I go with this intake, I plan to utilize its sound generator duct with the TRD sound changer. Then the GReddy version will never be able to match the sound. :p Takeda is the ONLY aftermarket intake I've seen in America that preserves that duct. Conversely, I haven't seen ANY Japanese aftermarket intake omit that duct.

I've put close to 100 miles now on the intake and you guys were right. Its prob the ecu getting used to the new intake. i've lost nothing, acutally feels like i've gain torque. So i'm really happy with the intake.
