The new Camry face vaguely similar to FR-S ?

Hey guys, just noticed that the new camry face is vaguely similar to the FR-S. Take a look

and

discuss.

ichitaka05 08-23-2011 03:35 PM

I don't think face is similar, but fog light area is similar

Also I thought this was the new Camry

Ichi, SE trim.

SUB-FT86 08-23-2011 04:01 PM

They look nothing alike. FRS is a million times sexier!

tranzformer 08-23-2011 04:42 PM

Both have front headlights? You lost me after that.

Ah~ gotcha :happy0180:

I could see a vague distinctin with the square mouth with the vertical c type crease on the edges, the triangular foglight mounts and the pointed headlights with a single projector beam.

Toyota did with the current Tacoma and taking similar styling characteristics and applying it to the current Tundra and 4 Runner. They went from smooth and angled to boxy.

Aki 08-23-2011 06:09 PM

There are some similarities with the rear tail light too in how the outer edge trails down. They're trying to establish a new corporate design language. Wouldn't call the face similar though, it has similar elements =)

r4m3n 08-23-2011 07:26 PM

Looks more like the Acura TSX

n2oinferno 08-23-2011 08:04 PM

I don't see it.

The Orange/Red lines are a little alike, but the vehicles look nothing alike...at all.

Yeah, to say they look alike is kind of stretching it.

Look at the shapes used, the way they interact.... completely different. The end result may look similar, but they aren't.

Of course it isn't a 100% copy. But it is close enough to where you go WTF was Toyota thinking?

Enzie 08-24-2011 10:48 AM

I found the SE trim to have the slight shape and resemblance of a Genesis Coupe.. lol

The 599 and the XK "look like" A MkIV Supra. Did anybody ask WTF Ferrari and Jag were thinking?

Because there's a horizontal line? The G Sport and Camry SE don't look alike at all.

I see where he's going with this! The square centered open grill and the side grills with horizontal splitters.

R_E_L 08-24-2011 02:56 PM

i standby what i said to be honest. and if it wasnt blatantly obvious i was refering to the styling on the front. shape of the headlights, grill, even the lower opening. just move the small vertical structures closer to the fog lights and there you have it.

I see similar characteristics at the most but just like the OP mentioned with the '12 Camry and FR-S. To say "almost an exact ripoff" is taking it way out of context.

2011 TSX with it's updated (thinner) grille makes it look a little more similar to the Camry. The headlight shape is close

Not to get all technical but I do agree, "little more similar" sounds right.

Both of these have round headlights and straight front bumper. I guess they look alike because they have two similar lines too. :bonk:

The wide open lower grille and fog light enclosure seem to be Toyota's recurring theme also on the 2012 Yaris SE which btw is a redesign and comes with a sport front bumper, rear diffuser (both seamlessly integrated, not a tacked on lip kit), and sport-tuned suspension STOCK).

You're onto something here...

The back half of the new Camaros always remind me of the FR-S.

Thinking the fender flares/rear quarters.

Yeah I see it! WTF Toyota! What ever happened to independent designs and product individuality!?! :bs:

Acura is the same theme going on with the RL, TL, TSX, ZDX, MDX and RDX with that ugly middle grille. Scroll over each model and you can see the trend. :barf:

Giccin 08-26-2011 08:41 PM

Dunno about you guys... but the FR-S's front looks similar to the Porche's Panamera than the Yaris or Camery to me.

Don't know if you guys see it like I do though.

I love this thread, it's uncovering so many automotive design conspiracies.

Is it just me or are these two almost identical?

It's called building brand identity and seems to be all the range in the industry.

Of course it's not that big a deal when the design looks good.....

Who reckons Toyota has taken styling cues from the K-1 Roadster??

The headlights from the frs/ft86 has the same profile-ish as the K-1 not to mentioned the same front grill shape. Perhaps even the front fender profiles as well? You decide....
