Average waiting time for an 86 GT
 

Hi guys, was wondering what the average wait time is at the moment for a standard GT at the moment? I am looking at ordering one in the near future. Cheers

There's like a huge wait. depending on how lucky you are, currently there have been word that there is a huge queue for this car. I won't have a clue, to me it's kind of like asking when is it going to rain?

Hi there Nytemayr. 86 GT you'd be looking at roughly 6 months from order, possibly earlier pending cancellations/additional stock influx.

From all of the forum reading I have been doing over the last couple of months while waiting for delivery, even people with GT orders existing have been pushed to December if not then early next year. So it would make sense that if you started from the back of the queue, you probably wouldn't get a build date earlier than mid to late next year (at the earliest) & GTS is looking like 18 months to 2 years.. so for people ordering now the best option is to ring around looking for unallocated stock. Which means sometimes making a compromise on the exact spec that you would prefer.

Another option could be waiting 6 months for the second hand 2012's to start hitting the market.

In my opinion it's gonna be worth the wait (whatever that may be)

i wonder about the 2nd hand market, there wont be too many, and they will be snatched up pretty quick. sellers market when it comes to this car i think. End of next year i think it will start to slow down

i bought mine off the lot, brand new 10kms. Wait time = 2 weeks. Call regional dealers they are BOUND to have one or two sitting around. Make a compromise in colour and you could probably get it ASAP

Reasonably easy to find a GT for delivery next month, with the transmission you want. Colour is the challenge, so if not picky ...

Ditto to the guys recommending you make a few phone calls to regional dealers. I've done it twice now and there were several GT in either MT or AT available around Queensland. Unfortunately, I was looking for a GTS.

Be prepared to accept a different colour, also as stated above... and don't be afraid to call dealers that are quite a distance away from you.

Look up cars ales. There where @ least 10 GTs and 2 GTS up for grabs

Yeah ring around.. I was told 12month+ wait at my local dealer due to everyone buying GT's when they found out the huge wait times for the GTS.

I managed to find one that is ready for delivery in 2 months (gives me time to sell my car etc) in my preferred colour and transmission.

Thanks for the responses all. I'm actually willing to wait as my old man will be retiring in 6 months and wants to buy my S3 off me. Was hoping to order in the near future and for the 86 to be ready in around 6 months time

Ordered my GT manual 2 July and 'b uild' then was October, since been pushed to November and now TMCA tell me December!! She also checked the whole State [QLD] and only three were unsold, 2 x orange GT autos Brisbane and one GT auto Townsville

One of the larger Brisbane Dealerships gets NO 86's for October at all!!

I now don't expect mine until January/February next year but question Toyota release of 10 July saying wait time for GT was 2/3 months - it's comments like that which get those that have ordered pre that 'release' just a little angry!

I'll wait! Good luck to those jumping and heading 'Evo' direction, find one that hasn't had the butt flogged off it!!

You are probably not going to believe my luck! I had a half day at work Friday and was looking to place my order for the 86 expecting delivery around May/June.
Little did I know someone had cancelled their order that very same day and the car was due to arrive from Japan next week...
So it looks like im going to be the proud owner of a Black 86 GT within 2 weeks. Cant believe it I am so happy right now.

Was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for Opti-Coating in Sydney I think that is something I should try and get done straight away. I have a guy who did the window tinting on my audi and did a really good job.

Happy for you mate, but this is an example of a dealer being dodgy.

Instead of giving it to someone in the line, they give it to you to secure a new sale.

Completely agree this is f***ed. why doesn't it go to someone who's been waiting for months? Guess what, waiting 5 months and counting here, no word yet and I hear sh*t like this!!

If i were you guys waiting i would just keep calling around until you find one, you can always cancel the deal and get your deposit back. The dealers are being ****s to you so may as well give them a taste of their own medicine.

I ordered after the whole wheel issue, so I can't get my deposit back?

Not op's fault anyway lol if it was a grey manual GT and you were in Melbourne I wouldn't be happy though ;)
