Fuel inefficient
Anyone elses car tearing through fuel like its a twin turbo V8?
Ive had my car for two weeks now, fueled it up twice. Its done about 700km in total now and its struggled to reach 400km on each tank. Thats shocking. Is this normal? Will it become more efficient once I past break in? or am I in trouble here. |
You should only get terrible fuel efficiency if you are giving it a boot full at every set of lights and even then it should not be woeful.
What is your efficiency? L/100km? |
that isnt that much of a guzzler, on avg im getting 9.8L to 100kms, so a tank (when i fill up its about 41 litres) gets me about 420km's.
|
Yeah I'm hitting about 420-440ish each tank on my Auto GTS.
|
I was getting 8.5L/100k on good weeks (not much traffic) during the break in period. Now im doing ~9.8-10L/100k opening her up a bit every now and then + traffic omg lane cove rd :(
|
awesome! was gonna open a post on this...
i am getting 11.1/100km wtf LOL...well i do heavy *** traffic driving nearly everyday...the traffic down there is ridiculous and i live in the eastern suburbs, and the traffic isn't nice on anzac parade too in the mornings and nights.... but yea, my WHOLE TANK of V-POWER which is bloody expensive atm finishes around 350km...360-370 is stretching it and engine light comes on.... got car for a month already, filled up today again, will be monitoring... |
I do half country driving half city. I give mine heaps when practicable and I average 7.8ltr/100km on the dash.....Filling up when there is 1/4 of tank left, usually cracked 500km.
Much better than my GC8 previous to the 86. |
I did the Sydney / newcastle freeway, a distance of 126.1kms with an average of 6.4L per 100km. I was happily surprised at how efficient it can be. city driving consumes though, mainly because I'm hitting 6000 rpm b4 shifts
|
I get around 7.9l, but I was getting 7.2 during the break in period :P
|
thats about what im getting about 420 km = 366 miles
|
You realise that the tank is only 50 litres right? Cars with V8's usually have much larger tanks. This car this very fuel efficient. Very spirited driving gets me 9L/100km's and granny driving got me 6.8L/100km's on a manual
|
Also adding to that could be the fuel your using, you should be using premium fuel and I have noticed that BP Ultimate gives you better fuel consumption than V-Power. Hope this helps
|
9l/100 atm.... mix of city/freeway. Way better than my old liberty... fkn 14l/100

i'm about the same in traffic as you.. sometimes up to 11.4l .. homebushbay drive :( i managed some how to get ~5.6 on the freeway however a number of times :confused0068: |
Looks good to me!
i get about 500k out of a 75 litre tank in my hilux highway driving.. about 400 city haha.. the BRZ will be like motobike fuel efficiant to me! |
i'm doing good so far! almost past 1/4 of the fuel meter nearly @ 200km
anyone tried the RON 100 at 'United' petrol stations? |
I do roughly 420km per tank, and that's mostly through peak hour traffic.
Cruising on the motorway mostly though you can easily reach 550 (with a bit of spirited driving here and there too) I've also figured out that a LOT of spirited driving I smashed half a tank on 160km haha.. I personally don't care how much petrol goes in and out, less worrying = more fun :) |

Lucky it was a company car and i wasn't paying for the fuel ;) |
i'm doing pretty well so far?
I get about 9L/100km.. I fill up about half a tank when I run about 260-270ks on manual? My break-in period was slightly higher... I went for the whole "don't baby the car, rev your engine to break in the seals" :D |
8.4l in city 6.2l highway
Based in Canberra where there is no traffic |

ahha impossible to not get non ethonel gas in maryland,.,, just gotta live with it ....... just another way for companies to make more money...

10% is fine, you wont notice a thing, as long as the car was built in the last 10 - 15 years. previous to that it can be bad.
if its old enough for a steel tank, even worse, if the car survives long enough, you will find a big ol' hole in the tank where its rusted through haha. I plan on getting mine flashed and running e85. |
I'm averaging about 8.2-9.5L/100KMs depending on how I'm driving. It's actually really fuel efficient. Even going up and down a mountain run with spirited driving I average around 9L.

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I feel better now after hearing about your mileages. For a moment I was thinking something is wrong with my car or some1 is siphoning it when im not looking lol.
If ive been looking at it correctly the counter has been reading something like 11.1km/litre. So im like one of the other posters on here lol where the fuel light goes on after about 350 km. Although I shouldnt be doing it, I have been sorta hammering this car around the place even though I do stay below 4k most of the time. Another thing is its true I forget how small this fuel tank is. I was comparing it to my s15 which has a 65 litre tank and would get me around 550km on a full tank. So I was thinking well if my old turbocharged s15 can get that much then surely a brand new modern day NA car would get me like 800km lol (exaggeration). Sigh I guess ill just have to get used to visiting the bowser more often. Because if the car is eating fuel like it is now, then wait til i get through break in and that centre needle becomes free to hit that redline. :D |
Mine is currently at 9.7l/100 or something similar. I ahve been driving it really quiet hard, so I am happy :)
|
Mine is at 10.6l after 170k, just topped up, cost me just under $30..
Kinda think the dealer didnt actually fill it up, just filled it till the meeter was on full haha. |
My BRZ had 14km on it when I picked it up a month ago. I now have 2100km. The first few hundred I averaged around 11 litres per 100 km. After 2100 km my average over the whole distance is 7.2 litres per 100 km.
The engine is definitely very tight when first delivered. |

economical?

I am now getting nowhere near the average and i am down the very end of the economy scale. My last 1.5 tanks i averaged 10.2 which was all city driving, but babying the first half a tank. I have put in a new tank and am down to 9.0, but i have to REALLY push to get this i.e using a downhill for more speed to climb the next hill etc. If i drive how i would normally drive i can only get around 10.3. I have an auto GTS. thoughts? |
9 is not too bad for city driving and being an Auto..
I would be happy as larry to get 9, i am sitting around 9.5 at the moment (manual) my last car was closer to 14 - 17 :( |
lol how are u guys in the 9s. im still stuck in 11s. ive never seen anything other than 11s
|
Guys, it's a sports car, right?
10 combined with city/highway/occasional trashing is fkn great If you want a lower consumption car get a fkn yaris or Prius or corola lol On a engine like this, a highly strung NA, babying it constantly will not help long term performance You got a good looking sports coupe that manages 9-10/100 combined, you should be extatic! |
Modern cars are set up for E10, generally, and the 86 is no exception. 10% eth 100 should be fine, just a shame it's not that widely available... If I developed engine problems from using a fuel recommended by the manufacturer (>98 octane, <15% ethanol) I'd get up them about it...
EDIT; Also, I agree with the poster above. Flog it once in a while so it goes from DI to DI + Port injection or it'll never clean the valves. |
I drive all around Sydney for work and I am averaging 8.5l/100kms which includes some mountain runs with Urban and Motorways. Get about 440 a tank....I did once get 500kms which i thought was pretty good considering its a sports car with a 50l tank and I do a lot of stopping and start all day.
