Miles miles miles

So I'm already at 74xx today and will be scheduling my first maintenance. Since June 6th, I've already done almost 7500 miles! Sheesh. About 4k miles is 2x PA -> MI trips so that accounts for about 4k miles. I suppose 3500 miles over 3 months isn't too bad not counting the trips.

How's everyone else doing on driving the heck out of these cars or maintaining low miles? Good thing I got the 8yr/125k warranty :)

Bonburner 09-05-2012 12:24 PM

I'm planning on harassing dealers to do an oil change at 3k miles or just tell them to give me the oils and filter and I'll do the labor myself haha.
I'm currently just a little over 2k miles now ..

DantKR 09-05-2012 12:27 PM

Just broke 3k miles. Already had an oil change around 1500 just because.

travace 09-05-2012 12:28 PM

kinda crazy to me that dealer says no oil change till 7500 miles.
told me cause its synthetic... i never heard of this before

thermobox 09-05-2012 12:29 PM

Did my first at 1,500, doing my second at 3k and 7,500 will be my third. I'm a lil anal when it comes to break-in and first oil changes.

MVJ1975 09-05-2012 12:29 PM

I'm right around 4K now. I've been driving a bit more than usual this year (I wonder why?)...

Interval on VW/Audi with Syn is 10K and Merc interval on some cars is 15K.

You must not get out much... lol.

travace 09-05-2012 12:42 PM

i guess not...my daddy taught me 3k was the magic number.

guess its time i take a step out of the cave huh?

jschendel 09-05-2012 01:44 PM

up to 4500 miles, had it for a little over a month.

13FT86 09-05-2012 02:10 PM

I haven't had mine for even 48 hours & I already did around 300 miles (which is something I've never done before).

ST185RC 09-05-2012 02:14 PM

had my car for 3 months now and the clock is 2750KM ~ 1719 Miles. Damn and I thought i was wracking up the mileage on my car...

5hairpins 09-05-2012 03:10 PM

Almost to 3500 in just over 3 months. Guess that puts me in the middle of this pack.

You should talk to someone else at your dealer then, the first oil change is supposed to be at 3000 miles accord to the manual, and then 7500 miles per change after that, or 3750 if you live in a severe condition area, which actually is probably 90% of drivers as living near the ocean, in an area that gets snow or an area that's very dust are "severe condition" areas.

I'm almost to 5000 miles now on mine since mid June.

Yruyur 09-05-2012 03:39 PM

Car delivered June 28th. Just crossed over 8000 miles.

My manual says every 7500, nothing about 3000. Only the severe conditions thing.

Hmm, you're right, my dealer told me I had to bring it in at 3000 for the first oil and even highlighted the 3000 mile column in the maintenance manual, however that column doesn't actually have anything listed in it to service for the BRZ, oh well I'd rather have had it done then than waiting longer for the initial oil change anyways.

haha.. yeah i noticed that a lot of folks seem to be really stressing hard about doing the oil change at 500 miles.. or 1000 miles. seems a bit excessive to me, but hey - to each their own.

I wonder if it is because the Subaru does not come with the 2 years free maintenance that the Scion does. So your dealer is scheduling faster oil changes to up revenue?

That wouldn't surprise me, either than or salesmen not that knowledgeable with maintenance schedules, the only vehicle that actually has something listed as required for the 3000 miles is the Tribeca, all the rest of the vehicles are listed as 7500 for their first service.

dj_mallu 09-05-2012 05:41 PM

Got the car on July 21st around 3k now.

MarkRacerX 09-05-2012 05:45 PM

Around 5500 miles on it now, Fun car to drive and Gas Sipper compared to my prior STi ! Def enjoyed the free oil change prior!!

civicdrivr 09-05-2012 05:47 PM

Picked my car up May 16th, but didnt really drive it a whole lot until June 1st, when my other car had an "issue".

11,2xx as of today. I broke 10k on August 24th, 11k on September 1st, and 11,111 miles yesterday.

Luckily I have a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain from the dealer.

kendalldwhite 09-05-2012 05:57 PM

Owned since August 11 and today i have 400 miles

russv 09-05-2012 07:28 PM

Got a notice today from Scion saying my complementary 6 month/5000 mile service is due, but I've only had it 3.5 months and 1800 miles.

Texas BRZ 09-05-2012 08:17 PM

Surpassed 2,600 miles earlier today. I suppose I hit 2k miles in one month, and I expect to keep that pace up for the upcoming months, as well.

One thing's for sure, my FR-S is far from being a 'garage queen'. :D

_hollywood 09-06-2012 02:11 AM

I brought it in at 5k but they said no service is due until 7500, i thought i would atleast get a tire rotation by now,....at this rate i wont even hit 7500 before she is stored for the winter....

Currently 63xx, but zero problems so :iono:

rice_classic 09-06-2012 02:39 AM

Picked up my car at the end of July, already have 3800 miles on it.

Changed my filter at 400 miles, changed my Engine, Transmission and Diff fluid at 1600 miles. Changed my filter again at 3000 miles. Will change engine oil again at 5k then again 10k.

They made it too easy to change the filter, I'm a bit obsessed with it. Oh well, clean oil is happy oil!

I play with it at the track so I like to err on the side of caution.

i think i'm missing something here! trying to figure out why an area that gets snow, and living near the ocean would be considered "severe" service. i realize the "salt" air, along with the "sodium chloride" used on the road surfaces could create "havoc" with the body, however the "internal" oil lubricated parts in the engine should experience no additional "stress" to mandate an early "oil pull"..dusty conditions can and will cause additional stress on the internal engine parts due to "poor air filtering' because of reduced ability of the air filter to remove impurities...just sayin'

changing the oil at 3,000 miles is an excellent tactic.this will help "purge"
the engine of "metal shavings" that accumulate in the oil,and that also adhere to the magnetic drain plug.after this initial change, you can allow the 'full synthetic"oil to stay in the engine longer based on your driving habits calibrated by the computer in your car.as this will most likely be around 7,000 miles anyway, you could probably use THAT mileage number to effect your second oil change!

Eric_86 09-06-2012 04:27 AM

I have the car for 2 weeks and had put 1300 miles on it.

Well I suppose they could make the argument that salt partials in the air do get into the engine thru the intake, but still it shouldn't effect the oil. Really I think thinks it's more of a just in case covering their asses thing, and also so if you don't do it every 3750 miles and you have engine problems they can not honor your warranty, I always do the recommended till my warranty is up, then go 7k between changes, I did the same thing with my Magnum which I had for 8 years with no issues.

Broke 15,000 miles today.

Silverback 09-25-2012 12:26 AM

750 miles since 9/1

Leonardo 09-25-2012 12:48 AM

6850 Miles on it today. Got its first service at 5031 miles. I bought the Platinum Oil package at the time of purchase. Synthetic oil changes for life every 5000 miles or 6 months.

yes! i agree! it,more than likely is a "liability" issue with out merit, however, that said, changing oil more frequently is not a "bad" thing, but can add substantially to the overall cost of maintaining the car over the long term. as you mentioned, and i agree, stay with the manufacturers recommendations over the length of the warranty period, and THEN,you can follow your own maintenance schedule, and feel at ease about it.

_hollywood 09-25-2012 01:55 AM

7600 first oil change, once the snow hits ill put her away for the winter, maybe ill stop getting door dings and fingerprints when its locked away finally:paddle:

DatDudeLoso 09-25-2012 06:03 PM

7126 so far. Got it on June 4th. I make trips regularly (once a month) to Atlanta which makes me rack em up like crazy. What can i do. Pains of being in a long distance.

artizhay 09-25-2012 06:51 PM

About 950 right now. Doing my oil change at 1000. Researched how to do my own oil change so I can take care of the car right from start to finish, so hopefully all goes well lol.
