Muffler Delete
So it looks like the muffler delete saves roughly 25 pounds and nets about 3 rear wheel hp. For those of you that do have the muffler delete (berk or nameless) can you please post up some pictures of how it looks and please provide your impressions. I'm completely obsessed with the part and I want to get it more than anything!! Any reviews would be helpful; thanks so much!

Damn that looks awesome! I'm so jealous! Did you notice any power gains or does it seems the same? Has your mileage gone down at all with it?
Thanks for posting the pictures, it's much appreciated. |
I was thinking about one of them 2, so cheap for such a good sound. But I worry about back pressure , did you know that not enough back pressure can ruin your piston rings. We need reviews. Ill be a guinea pig send me your track pipe and I will review it for you.
:search: You should have posted this in the technical topics exhaust section. |
here's the deal with this car. ALL of the back pressure of this car made in the headers and the cat's there are two them in these cars as well as another resonator in the middle of the system so back pressure is not an issue with ANY cat back on the market currently. I have noticed NO loss in MPG.....except for the fact that i tend to wait to shift now so i can hear the amazingness of the boxer engine. and it seems that it may have a bit more get up to it. (probably weight).......here is the shitty video i made of the exhaust the day it went on.

I've had my Nameless muffler delete on the car for several weeks now. I've done a fair bit of street driving with it, as well as an autocross. Pretty quiet at idle, and not terribly loud at WOT or while cruising either. The cats and resonator take much of the noise out of the system. I didn't notice any seat of the pants gains in power, but I wasn't expecting any, I mainly did it for the weight reduction.

Very happy with removing two bolts and getting sound |
Awesome videos man. I think Ill make this my first mod. How loud is it on cold start? Do you think it would bother my neighbors, mind you I live on a quiet city block.

Leave the muffler on just pull it way about an inch... Working on welding one from my tc muffler, I'm a little rusty
|
I find it to be the loudest at cold start ie hi idle but it lasts for a min max. It has a great sound. I cant say i feel any extra power. Its great there is no highway drowning noise and unless you are no the gas its quite and no raspy sounds, and dont grab the cops attention. Btw home made pipe...
|
thanks for all the helpful information, it's much appreciated. This confirms it, I will get this test pipe an a drop in air filter. Now if I could just get some new wheels my car would lose roughly 45lbs...get rid of the spare tire on track days and that's about 65 pounds too.
|
i got it i love it worth the $100! sounds great dont really feel a difference in hp. the only reason i got it was for the $ who cares i want to take it off in 6 months for a full cat back or header back i got the noise i wanted out of the car without waisting a bunch of money.
|
i made my own for like 50 bucks
|
I got one coming in the mail. I posted in the WTB section and scored.
|
I just raced a wknd autocross and between pulling spare tire and rear muffler section , def a fair amount of weight!! Def nice to FINALLY HEAR A ROAR ! Sounds mean near redline and mellow down low. I am leaving it off for now and will eventually bolt up a track pipe to route exhaust after bumper. I am a Fan of Loud cars Haha yet surprised me , no muffler at all not too crazy or obnoxious !

I tried it without the muffler and just unbolting the exhaust; wasn't too happy. It sounded good/loud but looked awful.
So I went to local muffler shop and had them make me a custom track pipe/muffler delete. Here is what it looks like... Video to follow when it stops raining.Attachment 14661 Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 |

that looks awesome, how much did that run you? I might go to a local muffler shop and have them make a catback for me. Then just buy a test pipe from the header back.

I just unbolted mine yesterday I'm enjoying the sound, especially while doing heel toe downshifts lol. I plan on getting a track pipe but Idk.ubsamrc made me think twice into looking at getting something custom done. Imma Change out my mid pipe eventually anyways.. I guess that's what's good about the aftermarket track pipe thou, it can be switched over

@UbSaMrC
When do we get to hear this setup? I am very curious to hear and see more pictures. I am really considering looking for a local muffler shop and asking if they can weld a similar setup. I am also considering designing my own flowmaster axleback/catback, but I am having a hard time making up my mind. Do you get any drone with your setup? What was the range in cost for muffler service? I know it varies with shop/city/state, but at least I have an idea of what I should expect. Thanks. |
that's exactly what i was looking at doing, yes, please help with price range, and a video would be awesome. Great way to save some cash, sounds nice, plus weight loss! I would love to see one of these dino'd too! after a TON of research, it seems, best bang for your buck, is drop in a K&N filter, and do this. Tune would be nice too, looked into this cause you can take it out if you need to tke it to the dealership.. its a piggy back system... http://www.unichip.us/vehicle/vehicl...Subaru-BRZ-20L

please price range? When i went to my shop, we talked about putting two glasspacks in it as well, all that was about $300, so obviously with none of that, straight pipes, it would be cheaper. sounds good to me.
|
I paid $35 each tip $300 all in all, could have gone with shorter but I prefer this 3". It looks stockish until you start her up.

How did you get the burnt look on the berk? I didn't think they had that. |
I've got the Berk single exit delete and it's a great deal for the money, especially if you pick up a used one. The sound is much better, you drop about 22.5lbs in the rear, and I think single exit looks better. I bought mine as basically a temporary fix until I get an actual catback, since a catback is very far down my list of mods. The first day I installed it the sound was almost intolerably loud, but that is likely because it's the first car I've owned with a modded exhaust. After a couple of days it quieted down, and the sound is pretty nice now. It's actually a lot quieter than most catbacks I've heard. You also get some of those gurgles and pops at low RPMs and when decelerating, which I like a lot. There is some drone in the low to mid 2k range, but it's not too bad. I have an FT86 exhaust hole cover I'm going to install soon, but I accidentally dropped it on the concrete and need to repaint it now. haha

Berk Single Exit Muffler Delete With Before and After Video
I know this is an old thread and I am a noob. Just letting people know that these are still being installed and loved! I bought the Berk single exit delete and the FT86 SpeedFactory hole cover at the same time. The hole cover was actually more difficult to install and get it to line up properly but it wasn't too bad. Installing both took about 1 hour total.[ame="http://youtu.be/Wf_oKeHFkIA"]http://youtu.be/Wf_oKeHFkIA[/ame]

I have had the Berk dual exit for the past three months and I absolutely love it. The installation took about 30 minutes and was able to do it while the car was on the ground. The sound has somewhat quieted down now that there is some carbon build up in the MD. The only issue is that the MD seems to resonate at the 2-2.5 k rpm band. Other than that no issues. I am adding a tomei header system in the next month or so. I am praying that this will be pure eargasm and not too overwhelming.:bow::bow:

Reducing Cabin Drone After Muffler Delete
3 Attachment(s)
Did a custom spare tire delete using inexpensive foam rubber purchased at a flea market. Cut about 5 equal size squares and layered them on top of one another. Used the stock tire wing nut and washer to hold them in place and set the donut shaped insert on top. I also stuffed some of the foam into the openings in the rear sides of the trunk that lead into the area where there stock rear speakers are mounted. Placed a smaller section of foam closer to the back of the car just because it happened to fit well there. With everything in place the trunk mat is flush and can still support my guitar or amp if needed. The road noise and 2K - 2.5K cabin drone have both been reduced significantly.

Hi i have a question about the nameless muffler delete, planning to do it to my car.
my is a daily, it is very loud? |
Reviving a thread to rave for a minute.
I got a PLM muffler delete with dual tips and love it. It sounds pretty aggressive without being annoying. I sometimes leave from home pretty early in the morning, and the cold start isn't too bad. I have access to a lift and that made it so easy. I had over 25k miles on the car so I needed to use liquid wrench and my breaker bar on the original bolts. Spent less than $200 total and I am thrilled. I think it's a good buy at full price, but I was glad to find it at a good deal. Just wanted to put my two cents in.
