Why I got a dash cam

cuz of idiot drivers like this. Also, I was checking my park-mode feature, and thought it would be funny to add a few vids of people checking out my car.

ps. I have no idea why this weird looking dude thought it necessary to grab his crotch in front of my car

i also get a lot of lookie loo's myself. even had several people taking pics of it with their cell phones.

n2oinferno 08-29-2012 03:56 PM

Oh c'mon, it's well within a man's rights to adjust himself every now and then. :D Bet he wouldn't have if he knew it was on camera though.

Video proves it though. Car attracts more men than women.

I'll add one of my fun moments so far:

We should get an official carcam thread going.

SO what are the advantages to these over a gopro?

Better as a dedicated car cam. Always there, always works, no messing around.

Want to do other stuff with your cam? Get a gopro.

It turns itself on and off automatically

It has a GPS sensor

It has an accelerometer (to sense g forces, when impact is sensed through that sensor, the file is flagged as an event so it is safe from deletion. When the card fills up, it just records over old non-event video.)

It also has a parking mode, which can record on motion, or on impact.

I'm finding more and more that this shit doesn't work. Just park next to someone that looks like they won't ding your door and be done with it.

I didn't yet. For those who don't have this, the adapter senses when your battery is low and automatically turns the camera off. If you are parked for hours and there is constant traffic going by, the camera pretty much stays on running the battery, so you have to be careful with that.

I believe the gopro is cheaper and I"ve heard good reviews about it, but as was mentioned before, this has a very important surveylance mode shuts off if there is no movement. I don't think Gopro has that?

Maps316 08-29-2012 08:34 PM

Iam so getting one lol

:word:

I always try to park next to a more attractive/expensive car than mine.

Either way, suddenly interested in this dash cam.

When this happened to my friend's father's new '64 GTO and the mook dinged the door, he happily replied with a baseball bat to the windshield to the offending pos.

Most def was on purpose, some people.

Technically there's no turn lane at that first intersection, so you shouldn't have tried to pass/share their lane until they were completely out of the lane. However, them straddling the center line is just stupid.

I sometimes pass like you did, but *you* take the risk when passing without a dedicated lane. I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, but the more you know... :P

Woot I get mine this friday, its not the II one but its the first one. Both are pretty much the same anyway but one has better operation temperature range and compression. But other than that, meh.

Cant wait for mine to arrive!

I do wanna hotwire it but I dont know how :(

I had my stereo guy wire it to the fuse box. Most auto stereo shops do this, I paid like $30 just because I didnn't wanna mess with it, eventhough i'm told it's easy to do yourself.

Did you check out how it was done?

Just pick up a mini add-a-circuit (aka add-a-fuse) http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=071-585 from your local auto parts store, amazon, ebay, etc.

Pick any existing 10AMP fuse in your fusebox, pull it out, plug in two 10AMP fuses to the add-a-circuit. Plug the add-a-circuit into the now-empty fuse receptacle. Now you have a spare power lead that is protected by its own fuse. Run your camera wire to that, and ground it to any bolt near the fuse box (there's one conveniently right in front of the box towards the firewall).

The things that go on when you are not around. Sure gets a lot of attention!

As "FOOBAR" mentioned; I believe they ran the wire on inside the panelling, starting up by the rearview mirror, then down the drivers side to fuse box, so you don't see any wire.

You do know you can also plug it in your lighter for starters, if you don't mind a wire showing.

this is a great video review that explains how to set it up and also a forum that answers tons of questions:

You can still do this without the wire showing, just route it around the headliner, down the passenger a pillar and plug it into the cigarette lighter outlet that is in the glovebox.

Drifter, Is this in Monterey?

Khyron686 08-30-2012 05:30 PM

Mine was 50 bucks on ebay, and works fine. Blackviews are actually worth stealing which kind of defeats the point. Auto on/off and looping recording on the memory stick are all you need.

pinoyplaya 08-30-2012 09:10 PM

Currently I have mine plugged in to the glove box power and wires are hidden using the headliner and the rubber thingy.

But I would like to use the parking features XD

Ill figure it out. For now, glove box power is temporary solution.

For some reason, the quality isnt as good as I thought it was going to be.

Yup, that part was Pacific Grove, next to Monterey.

Well, they better make sure they complete the job or they will be on youtube for the world to see. Also, if anyone gets one, make sure you go into the set up menu and disable the "park mode light". Otherwise when parked, you will see a glowing light which could attract unwanted attention.

Should we keep adding to this thread or start an official video thread?
