FT-86 -- daily driver, weekend car, or garage queen?

Just had this thought - you guys gonna be using the FT-86 as a daily driver, weekend car, or garage queen?

Like I said in my other post I plan to drive this thing every second and chance I get. With toyota's reliability and efficient cars I think this will will serve as a good DD. Plus, it's too pretty and will hopefully perform too well not to use everyday :D

Shadowsong6 11-08-2009 02:15 PM

I'll be my daily, I can really only afford one car right now anyway, so I'll have this, and wifey is getting a 2009 Ralliart... I'm in charge of mods for both of them :bellyroll: :happyanim:

S2KtoFT86 11-08-2009 02:37 PM

Mine will be either my weekend toy or just a garage queen. I'll have another daily that I can beat up but this will definitely not be it.

White Comet 11-08-2009 05:38 PM

Need a good AWD or FWD car as an all weather daily for venturing through the Rockies in the winter with a snowboard, so the FT will be the weekend toy. Hopefully it'll satisfy the woman from expecting a Porsche, too (yeah, right...)

dm 11-08-2009 06:13 PM

I have an SUV also, but for my wife. This will be my everyday car, and thats a reason i want to change my 2 seat miata for a 2+2 FT86

4agze 11-08-2009 06:22 PM

This http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...-gt5-620op.jpg will replace this car http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d...0car/drift.jpg
its going to be a track toy

Deslock 11-09-2009 07:57 AM

Why get something with more than 2 seats for anything other than a daily driver?

Exactly.

Also, I don't think the FT86 Market is the guy who drives the 5 series Beemer to work and tools around in his Porsche on the weekend. Anyone who has a daily driver and this is kind of wasting space and money.

I knew several people who had RSX's and Celicas, and then owned Civics and Corollas as daily drivers. I guess if you're a "car show" person, that sort of makes sense? Otherwise, it's just a waste of money.

DanZilla 11-09-2009 09:18 AM

somewhere between dd and weekend. maybe driven 3-4 days a week

Guess I'm just gonna be wasting money. :iono:

Come live here for a year and be sure to drive outside of the city during the winter (aka, go snowboarding) and try saying the above again. I know you get some form of winter where you live, but trust me, it ain't like what it is in the mountains of the pacific northwest.

TRDMAN 11-09-2009 12:25 PM

I have a Tacoma 4x4 so the 86 would be a semi dd but the truck would be a bad weather vehicle which in WA is like every day so... During the summer it would probably be a DD

:)

I didn't mean "daily driver for all conditions." Obviously if you can't drive it very well in snow or don't want to subject it to the salty roads, etc, it's understandible. However during non-super-inclimate weather conditions, I'm guessing the car will be your daily driver?

People are going to do what they want. It just doesn't seem like a fiscally sound move to get a $20K econobox/sporty car and also have another daily driver. Do people considera G35 or 350Z a weekend car? Probably not, and it's in the same category. :iono:

S2KtoFT86 11-09-2009 12:31 PM

The G35/37 and 350/370 would be weekend toys for me. Just depends on who you talk to.

If you've got the scratch, why is it not fiscally sound? I would DD the FT as much as possible, and my gf (to be wife) could take the Subie for most days. But when it comes time to road trip (and I loves me some logn road trips) or just go boarding, Rexie's got it.

I love modifying my rides and want to have an equally modded 'Rex and FT, just have them doing very different things.

I have this thing where I can't, for the life of me, drive a boring car. Plus, if I'm paying ~300 a month in finance payments for this car, I'm going to use it. To me, this car is a drivers car, its meant to be driven. It will also probably sell more units than AE86 GT-S's and SR-5's combined, so later down the road they won't be as hard to come by.

Hopefully the production cycle of this car lasts roughly what the SK2 had, at the very least, so by the time I pay one off, I can buy the "high performance" model with much better credit / more money saved (thanks to good job from graduating college) so I can justify paying ~250 a month to make a car a garage queen.

Yes, I want two of these. I'd take 3 if I could: track car, daily, garage queen.

Bochet 11-10-2009 02:53 PM

Daily driver 100%. It's a $20K Toyota...

I would like to have a cheap wagon or something (Bugeye OBS) with more space for hauling the dog to the beach, going on long trips, etc.

S2KtoFT86 11-10-2009 02:56 PM

Lol I guess I'm the only garage queen here.

NESW20 11-10-2009 03:57 PM

daily driver. it would probably see an Autox or two, and maybe a trackday if i don't run the MR2, or a friend's MR2.

Which is sad. Because the more people I know about who will be garage queening their car, the more people I have access to contacting when I want to purchase an unmolested version of the car, years down the road.

Ah, so you're planning on getting one that far out? I thought you were going to grab one fairly soon. Must've missed that.

Oh I'm getting one probably the premiere year.

But that far down the road I'm gonna want another, to add to the collection.

It would be my only car, DD, weekend only, and garage queen.

I'm sure that 6 or 7 years down the road, you'll appreciate an FT that looks like it just came off the showroom floor. :happyanim:

Darn right. That's the benefit of keeping the Rex to be my every day whore, and the FT (potentially) as the weekend fling.

Daily Driver for me.

TRDMAN 11-27-2009 11:53 PM

Drag queen

kd2229 11-28-2009 03:59 AM

daily drive for me,
I will call it T&T => tool and toy :thanks:

cornfed 11-29-2009 12:48 AM

This will be my DD year round, throw some sand bags in the trunk and some Blizzacks on, and let her eat up that snow. You AWD guys got nothing on me in the snow.....lol...joking

no_name 11-30-2009 12:46 PM

Daily Driver. RWD is even more fun when the weather's bad. When I see fresh powder on the ground, I don't reach for my snowboard, I reach for my car keys.

USMCMike 11-30-2009 06:37 PM

Daily Driver, for the most part, my job doesn't require me to drive into work though but as soon as I'm off it's all me a ton of steal (or whatever they make cars from these days, aluminum.)

Gearbanger 12-02-2009 12:38 AM

It's a relatively inexpensive car so got to drive it. That said with rear wheel drive I'll gararge it in winter same as my IS.

HCN 12-02-2009 03:20 AM

This is going to be my daily with some light mods done to it, boy I can't wait!

miggs 12-02-2009 06:45 PM

Will definitely be driven 2-3 times a week but not for DD use, i drive 50-75 miles a day so no way. I'll sell my 200SX and pick up a different DD like maybe an AE86 :happyanim:

You don't want an AE86 for a DD. Not at the age its at now. Talk about a lot of money and time invested just to make a car a worthy DD. Trust me on this, I'm barely keeping up with it.

Infact, thats backwards! FT should be DD, AE86 should be moderate drive car / track car. FT's will be everywhere (hopefully), AE86's are rare gems nowadays.
