BRZ Front Plates

So... I zip tied the front plate holder that came with the car onto the front grill and its blocking it :(

The L part that goes in also is scratching the plastic bumper. I think I'd be better off installing these front plate holder the normal way, drilling into the plastic bumper.

What are you guys doing to yours?

I kinda dont like the tow hook one since its not symmetrical. Given that the car is so light, it will definitely upset the balance of the boxer engine :sigh:

You don't really think a license plate will "upset the balance" of your car do you?

Zaggeron 08-25-2012 01:18 PM

I just had my dealer install my front plate yesterday. Took a while to find one of the techs willing to drill into my front fascia. Had to have it done though. End result doesn't look bad or out of place though.

Lytheum 08-25-2012 02:28 PM

my inner ricer likes the offset plate look

Dont know what to say then..............................

Due to the severity of my OCD and my need for symmetry, I mounted my front license plate into the bumper! WARNING! Giant picture!

Shinji2787 08-25-2012 07:06 PM

I just run with no plates.... on the rare occasion you get bugged then stick on the offset for the sign-off. then take it off again. problem solved.

not to mention you lose the buckteeth...

Miniata 08-25-2012 07:12 PM

I choose to run without. Told the dealer to not drill the bumper. They handed me the front bracket, it is sitting on a shelf in my garage. In 6+ years of running without a front plate on various cars, I've never been pulled over for it. If I lived in the city or in an area where the cops were anal about front plate enforcement I might consider some sort of alternative solution.

I just went with the offset tow hook mount. I'm not a big fan of it, but after a while it doesn't bother me anymore. I'm not saying I like the look, just that it's not an eyesore anymore.

Same with me, I went with the Greddy one since it allowed a little more adjustment in positioning than the others. In SF Meter maids can give you no front plate tickets so its not just about getting pulled over for it.

SuperDave 08-26-2012 03:22 AM

been running for 2 weeks in so cal without getting pulled over yet, but i think i'm just gonna have a dealership drill the front bumper, it doesn't look that bad. but it really does look better without it!

GReddy has a license plate relocation kit? Could you link me to what it looks like?

Trikle 08-26-2012 04:33 PM

oops meant grimspeed

WRXGuy1 08-28-2012 01:23 PM

I hated having to drill into the bumper, but I knew it had to be done at some point. I don't want to give cops any additional reason to pull me over, lol

I agree with this. And to me, having the front plate on the center is far better than a license plate on the tow hook, albeit with hole on the bumper.

+1 here. I have been resisting doing this, but at my first oil change, I will likely have the dealer install the front plate. In Cali, they even give tickets on parked cars. My friend just rec'd a ticket on his 911 parked on the street in SF at a Giants game.:sigh:

What's really crazy is that if I get a ticket for no front plate, my insurance premiums go up & I get insurance points. My insurance co is great (NJ Manufacturers), but they are very strict!

86BRZ 08-30-2012 01:06 AM

Now CA cops will charge to sign off a fix-it ticket, for non-city resident they charge even more. Just not worth it after get pull over from my older car.

Check out www.hidetheplate.com for more options.....

SLEEPER WRX 08-30-2012 11:48 AM

I was lucky enough to stop the dealership from drilling holes.

I go without

I'll do the Greddy or Perrin thing when it comes time to sign off a ticket
